The doctor that cares more about billing multiple times rather than your wellness:

Most doctors after establishing care and having seen you for a visits, Have no problem refilling medications three months at a time in order to save you trouble and money of having to come in a for an office visit every month. Even with scheduled substances, Most doctors do not require you come in every month in order to refill your medication.

With Dr. Cooper this is not the case. Even after six visits, when it comes time for your Pharmacy to fax over a refill request, It will not get approved -- But you will receive a phone call from his staff letting you know you will need to come in for an office visit in order to receive a refill. There'll always be a reason such as, "we need to run some blood work", or "An EKG is in order." This has happened to me and I have no history of heart problems nor do I have any medication that requires liver enzyme levels or any other blood tests to be run for medical precaution or necessity. When it comes to the actual visit, he spends about 20 minutes just asking you about your life, as if he was just interested friend making small talk and not a medical expert.

Unless you actually report any symptoms, he won't ask you any medical questions but Just make small talk and give you non medical related life advice which ends up being just long enough to bill your insurance company for a higher level office visit.

One month I was without insurance due to a job transition, having had just seen him the month before, I was in need of refill and explained to him that I would not be able to afford whole amount for a "cash" visit, but that I would be insured again within the next month and just needed my normal medication refilled for the one month in the interim. It mattered not the number of times I've seen him in the past and the number of co-pays he collected and payments he had accepted from my insurance company. He said that unless I would come in and pay the full cash price for a visit I would not be up to receive my refill for that single month while uninsured.

Definitely be aware of this doctor's practices and know what you are getting into when it comes to a doctor who cares about the patient in addition to trying to bill out to the max. Sometimes life happens and all doctor's who have patients with over a year's history of visits would not even think twice about refilling a prescription during a short time when their patient would be uninsured.

Shame on you Dr. Cooper. Shame, shame, shame. Not only is this unethical it's just not good business practice. It is quite clear what the doctor values most and it isn't your complete care or your best interests.
