Ok place – I used to come to this place all the time when the first opened, but I recently came for dinner, and I am not sure whether they have new owners or what, but the food was horrible and the service, wow I could not even get a water without flagging down the waitress.
Families, boomers and college kids flock to the fresh, steaming-hot Thai and Vietnamese food. – The Scene
People don't flock to Saigon Bangkok because of outstanding architecture or sparkling décor. The cocoon-like interior of pink walls and pink linen is a welcome contrast to the surrounding cinderblock and blacktop outside. Families and aging boomers come in the 6 o'clock wave, university students and yuppies at 8.
The name gives Vietnamese and Thai equal billing, but the latter has more menu lines. Saigon Bangkok's Vietnamese selection features thick noodle soups and fresh, cool vegetables. Thai dishes are full of zing and flavor, like the chicken satay with peanut sauce, and chicken soup with lime and coconut milk. Don't miss shrimp, eggplant and bamboo shoots in garlic basil sauce or lobster, squid, shrimp, scallops and fish in coconut red curry sauce.
Dish to Die For
Order the tender, sweet, deep-fried whole catfish with ginger and cilantro in spicy sauce.
succulacious – The food we had was so good we cant wait to try the rest of the extensive menu. crab and asparagus soup, a sweet tom kar ga and the vietnamese spring rolls were great. entrees were beef ka pow and breaded shrimp in a red curry with coconut milk. The sauces and the meat was very good but they both had very thickly cut crispy onions and peppers that I'd like softer. It was very busy on a wednesday night, they were severely understaffed but do a good job given 2 people work all 20-25 tables. Given a very large menu there is plenty to choose from but I was very disapointed to see only pad thai as the noodle dish. Where can I get some pad see ew, lard na, or dranken noodle around here???
OK. Probably the best here but... – ...if this restaurant was in most cities, I probably would not even come here.
Their food, it is true, is not greasy like some Chinese food places in area - but really didn't have good flavor either. This restaurant also has the chronic inability of most places in the area to create hot and spicy dishes that are even remotely hot and spicy.
Still, the restaurant wasn't particularly bad, and the prices are reasonable when compared to Mango Bob's (which is an overall nightmare) and even some upscale chinese places such as May Jen's. If you are unwilling to make the drive to Rochester for real Thai food, this place will probably do in a pinch. But don't make the mistake that this is great Thai food - most Thai restaurants outside Buffalo are MUCH better!
