Chintzy and Cheap at Easter – Bottom line to this review is I will never return. The owner / management decision to put out low budget food on a high priced ticket disgusts me. This is a perfect example of milking a cash cow by providing a holiday destination with very low effort and attention to quality and care. I know the point of business is to make money, but there was a complete absence of quality at Crescent Blecch !!!
Now I know that it's tough to scrutinize a restaurant on a busy holiday. Staff can be really challenged to keep up good customer service. For example, our waitress not only needed to take care of our party of four, she had like a table of 18, and i think another table of 12, and that may not have been it. Filling coffee and keeping up with busing empty plates on a table of 12 or more can take a long time.
This is where my first criticism goes to the owners and management. Really poor!! Plenty of bus staff standing around just waiting for table turnover.
Gotta get more people seated and hand out those checks! Money money money!!!
Come on managers and bus staff !!! You got time to stand around and chat on a busy day like this! Grab a water pitcher ... or coffee pot and go around and get filling people!! I personally bused empty plates at our table because I couldn't stand looking at them anymore. The bus boy thanked me for bringing them to him ... really?!! I saw many other patrons doing the same. One guy put his dirties on someone else table when they had gotten up to go through the buffet again ... REALLY?!!
Ahhhh ... this gets me to the buffet. $25.99 per person, which did not even include coffee. Really? Now I'm not cheap, and was gladly ready to shell out the bucks; but for what ??? As soon as you see baked rigatoni's in the first steam tray you can smell CHINTZY and CHEAP!
The restaurant has a beautiful setting right on the lake. Pretty nice atmosphere inside. Staff was pretty good too. All the makings for the day and the meal to be really memorable. BUT:
NOTHING FROM SCRATCH
Lobster Bisque = inedible.
Roasted chicken was 4 for 4 pieces at our table being pink at the bone (WAY UNDERDONE)
Vegetable all bagged frozen stuff.
The carving station had: Australian lamb was way over done and flavorless. The ham wasn't real but a processed tube shaped something or other. And the beef was way way overdone and our jaws hurt after the work out of chewing it. Maybe the person cooking the chicken should switch places with the one cooking the beef and lamb!! YEESH
Ready for this???!!! The desert was one piddly chocolate fountain with marshmallows, pretzels, and Oreo. Oops. I forgot pineapple chunks too. I ask you. Why did you even bother. Sucko people. Sucko!!!
SHAME SHAME SHAME on the owner / management of the Crescent Blecccch.
old country buffet has better quality food at less than half the price
Love it – Sitting outside was really nice and the food was great!
Filthy Dirty and Disgusting Food – Not even 1 star does this place deserve. We held my mother's 80th birthday there yesterday. The place was filthy dirty both inside and out. The food was disgusting beyond belief and almost unedible....the bisque (if that is what it is called) was devoid of any seafood whatsoever, the broccoli was much, the pasta stuck toegther like it was days old, the chicken all pasty and gooey. The fruit didn't look healthy and the cheescake (unrefridgerated) was left out for hours on end in the heat! I remember how beautiful this place was years ago and it is sad to think what it has become. We have spent many a hundreds of dollars there throughout the years, but this restaurant has now seen my last dollar! IT is a miracle that they haven't been reported to the board of health!

Sorry We Went – The dining experience my family and I had at The Crescent Beach this past Mother's Day was truly abysmal. To add insult to injury, a letter I wrote to the owner/manager and sent the next day went completely unresponded to. Besides the 45 minute wait for a table we had reserved over a week in advance, the editing--severely--of the buffet menu from when we had been there on Grandparents' Day (no crab legs, no roast pork, no chocolate fountain, no dessert bar, no complimentary champagne), the food that ran out and was never refilled, BESIDES all that, they raised the regular price of the buffet by seven dollars a head and added a twenty percent gratuity ON TOP OF THE TAX. In my letter I pointed out that in the first place, the service was terrible. We only saw our waiter twice, and the second time he dumped coffee all over the table. In the second place, twenty percent is the amount you tip for a sit down dinner with exemplary service, not a self-serve buffet. And finally you NEVER figure in a gratuity AFTER you add the tax. Four adults and three tiny children six and under generated a bill just short of $200--with the $32 "tip," of course. Oh, and the food was mediocre; the wait in line was long; and the buffet only rarely (no pun intended) had roast beef on it--we had to make four trips down from the mezzanine to finally "score" a slice. Their site says the brunch menu "differs" on holidays from the regular buffet. It sure does, but I would have thought that meant it was more special--not far inferior and far more expensive. I made all of these points in my unanswered letter, and that lack of a response was the final disappointment. The Crescent Beach chose to exploit an important holiday and ignore a customer complaint, and that's just bad business. We definitely won't return, not even on non-holidays, and it's only five minutes from our home.
You might want to avoid the Tent for Wedding Receptions – I was at a wedding reception that was held in their outside tent. The dj's sound was cut about 5 times because there is a sound monitor that the restraunt owners installed. This monitor cuts the dj's music system when the noise level inside the tent exceeed "acceptable limits". The only times it was cut was when we were singing to songs or applauding the bride and groom. The music even cut in the middle of the dancing when we applauded the bride and groom! The dj told us it was not his equipment, but was something that cut his power when we were apparently "too loud".
The Food and Service staff was great but that sound silencer was a real bummer.
Christmas Dinner 2005 – Looking for ANY resturaunt on Christmas Day was tough! Crescent Beach was open. The D&C offered no good reviews so, I was walked in expecting to be negative. We had a reservation (same day I called-on Christmas). Beutifully decorated, and a window seat. We did the $28.99 buffet. Food was spectacular! Garlic mashed pot, swt pot w/walnuts, fresh g. beans, seafood tortallini, roast pork, roast beef, prime rib, salad(s) pasta, rolls and the snacky veggies. The tira'misu was to die for! 2 adults and a 10 yr old (counted as adult). With tax and tip, on Christmas, $140.00. We will be sure to be back for more holidays to come! I hope they have such great food on the normal days!
User review by kayefox – Great food...wonderful fish fry on Friday for 8.95 broiled for a buck more. Sits right on Lake Ontario dining romm has allglass walls looking out on the lake and grounds which are flood lit and decorated for the different seasons. Christmas is decorations is the highlitght of the year with everything inside and out decorated. Great lounge. Reservations suggested especially on weekends and holidays. Holidays: week or two for choice times. Building 32 room hotel on lake shore. boat dock available in front of rest.
