I have been a dental professional, myself. Dr. Singh's practice, while it might seem more familiar to people from India or Eastern Europe, is a very effective practice. They provide good dentistry for many people with modest incomes, and their services are needed in our community. Not everyone can afford to go to a Hilton, or "pain-free" specialist. Many dental procedures involve varying levels of pain and/or discomfort, and working in the mouth can be very difficult from the patient's point of view, also they are not permitted to give patients strong drugs for pain. When you read some patient reports, remember that some of these people have neglected their teeth for a long time, so, of course, there will be much damage in the mouth, and there will be some pain involved in repairing that damage. I do not, nor have I ever worked for Doctor Singh, but I AM one of his quite satisfied patients. Their office has been there to help me through a very complex series of procedures. They specialize in repair and reconstruction, rather than more glamorous aspects of dentistry, for the most part, and they do THAT very effectively. Very satisfied with their work. Marie Zarankevich.
Worst dental office EVER!!!!!!!! Stay far,far away! – This is without a doubt, the worst dentist I've ever been to. I used to go when I was younger because they were the closest to home and took my mom's insurance. Ok. So I had a filling done there once on a front tooth. It was an ugly black spot that made me look hideous because it looked like my tooth was rotting out for everyone to see. The assistant was nice but the doctor was HORRIBLE. She gave me a horrible attitude like I was keeping her from a date or something. Then, to my horror, when I opened my mouth and she looked at the tooth that she was to be filling, she said, "Oh, my God! You've never been to a dentist have you?!" She continued on to tell me how hideous she thought my teeth looked and at the end of the procedure I told her that my smile looked much better and I thanked her and she scoffed at me and walked out of the room.
I've also had two root canals done there, and with NO Novocaine I might add. The dentist stuck a needle in my gum on the bottom left of my mouth and then proceeded to drill into my tooth on the top right. It hurt so badly and they were supposed to inject it directly into the nerve, since they are practically ripping it out, but they refused. I was screaming and crying so loudly that other patients began walking out of the office. I didn't realize that in all of the agony, I had begun to rip the skin right off of the top of my hand and it was bleeding rather badly. Frustrated not only with patients leaving, they also were fed up with my screaming so extra assistants were called in to pin me to the chair while I spent the remainder of what felt like 3 hours receiving a root canal with no Novocaine.
Finally, I'm in the process of getting to a new dentist soon to have two teeth pulled because of their neglect. I went in with tooth pain a while ago and the dentist that was there said, it's a big cavity but no reason it can't be filled and you have 2 other small cavities that need to be filled and your teeth will be perfect. I agreed to come back in in a few days to have everything done at once, but I needed more money to do so. I arrived a week later and saw another dentist who told me that my teeth are practically rotting out of my mouth and the 3 small cavities turned into 4 root canals plus 8 other medium to large cavities. I'm no expert but is it really possible to develop 6 cavities in a week? So they refused to fill the tooth and said the only procedure they would do is a root canal which I promptly declined because without insurance I would have no money to my name for at least a month. They agreed to fill one smaller cavity for me but I have panic attacks, especially in situations like that so it would be difficult for me. I sat for over an hour waiting for the dentist to come back after I had been numbed and they were gone so long that they had to numb me again. I had a hard time holding still because I was beginning to panic and the dentist took her drill out of my mouth and told me either to hold still or get out because she doesn't have time for this.
Overall, the staff is rude, inexperienced, and they have NO concern for the well-being of their patients. Find another dentist nearby there are several much better ones to choose from.
Have to comment... – "I was petrified of the dentist and waited until the pain could no longer be tolerated. The Dentist there did a root canal and I didn't feel a thing. They didn't numb me too much either, as I was leaving the dentist, I could start to feel the numbness wearing off. I was so shocked at how smoothly things went!
Since things went so well, I scheduled another appointment for each of my daughters and one for me."
"Needing to find a Dentist?" – "Needing to find a dentist in a hurry due to a toothache, I felt very fortunate to have found Dr. Singh he was able to see me the very next day. Not only did he promptly take care of my immediate needs, but he and his staff got me back on a program of returning to proper dental health and care. Not only have I found Dr. Singh and his staff to be consummate professionals, but they treat their patients with the utmost respect and courtesy. Having always had extreme anxiety about visiting the dentist, I found that Dr. Singh and his wonderful staff made it much easier for me to return for regular care."
Please STAY away – This was MY WORST experience ever. Please stay away from them. Very dirty. I had an infection, a very serious one. When I returned they said that it was not their fault. I had to spend so much money just fixing what they did. I want to take legal action against them. They are really really really bad and dirty. It is a smelly place. I don't even know if they clean their material. I do have the papers that document the serious infection that resulted from their work. Very dirty, very immoral, and they take advantage of people from a certain economic background who think that they are getting a cheap care. But things do add up, particularly if it results in very painful and costly infections. Please post if you know whom one should call for formal complaints. Is there a dental board or something? Thank you and please stay away.
Terrible service! – I have been a customer of Tompkins Dental for years. About 4 years ago I had to get a few root canals there and it was very professional everyone was nice and polite, I was treated by a younger Middle Eastern man and he did very nice work. Also when I first started using tompkins dental Doctor Singh was actually actively working on patients. After I got the root canals I needed I stopped going to the dentist, and I got free cleanings through the Tioga County dental van. Two years ago I had to go back to them for another root canal, and their doctors did a very good job, and they also pushed to get my root canal approved by insurance. In the past 6-8 months I have been going back constantly to get some fillings, and my routine exam. Recently is when I have been having to most problems with this dental firm. I went in for my exam and cleaning. The Hygienist did a nice job, but the doctor who performed my examination said I had one more cavity to fill and three more rootcanals. I made my appointment for my last filling the following week, while I was waiting for my insurance to approve or deny my root canals. I went in for my filling she, the doctor who spoke broken english and kept getting frustrated while drilling my cavity, barely used any Novacaine. I could feel her drilling and I said something to her, she gave me this dumbfounded look and put some more in my gums. When she filled it with the plastic fillings, she had to keep drilling it out and putting more in. When she went to "buff" the filling smooth she just used her regular drill bit, and took most of the filling out! It was rough and sharp and it left a gap between both sides of my molar. About a month ago, I had to have three teeth pulled there b/c they were not salvagable, and the doctor who pulled them noticed I had two more cavities, that had obviously been there for months. He had to re examine my mouth to make sure those were the only cavities she missed, and he even asked me who did my exam. The doctor was really shocked on how poor this woman did her job. After he pulled my teeth he made me get an appointment to get the last two teeth filled. When I went in I got the same doctor who did my last one. These fillings were surface fillings, one on a front tooth and one on my canine. She once again "buffed" them with a drill bit and not the buff pad. When she was finished she left with out asking me how they felt in my mouth. The assistant had to hunt her down so she could buff them with the rubber buffer because these fillings were very rough. The doctor scuffed like it was an inconvenience to do her job rightn and she actually buffed them right for once. Today August 12th 2010 I had to make an appointment to get the first filling this incompetent woman had put in to get fixed b/c what little filling in the tooth had cracked and every time I eat anything it causes me great pain. When I called to make the appointment the receptionist on the phone sounded like she hated her job and was taking it out on me. She was rudeand when I asked if there was a later time I could come in she spoke back in a rude manor, making me feel like I had to take this appointment at the same time I have a meeting. I used to enjoy going to see Doctor Singh or Doctor Stahl, but now every time I go in they're busy and I get the incompetent woman who talks down to me and has a problem with doing her job right! I do not like calling to get an appointment and feeling like I'm the one who has to cancel an important business meeting to get in so they can fix what they did wrong. After they fix this broken filling I'm never going back to them.
DO NOT GO THERE – I got white fillings there and 2 days later one filling came out. I went back and it was redone the same week and then came out again 2 days later! That is, a filling failed twice in 10 days. On my second visit a different doc not only filled a cavity from the failed filling, but redid the other filling (put by his colleague 5 days before that) asking "Who did these fillings?". While I was in the chair, a disgruntled dude came in yelling that they did an unnecessary procedure on his wife, and that she couldn't sleep all night. Well, you get the picture. I was left waiting in the chair, while the docs were sorting things out with the angry guy. I will look for a competent dentist this time to have my filling redone again.
Scary, shady place – I strongly recommend against this place. Twice I've had fillings done here cause me pain for weeks afterwards, and twice I've told the dentists that I was experiencing pain while they were drilling and gotten only a cursory response, with nothing being done to alleviate the pain. There appear to be multiple doctors working there, but all the degrees and certificates on the walls are for one man, which I find suspicious. After filling a cavity, the dentists send you on your way without even giving you time to rinse your mouth out, leaving a large quantity of gritty filling pieces in your mouth. The whole place is operated like a production line, emphasizing speed over quality or health.
HORRIBLE, Worst Experience – I went to Tompkins Dental to get dentures. I waited 1 1/2 weeks to get the first set after my teeth were pulled, reasonable length of time I believed and arranged for time off work. When they gave me the dentures I was horrified. The teeth were so large and BUCKTOOTHED, I couldn't even close my lips over them and all the edges cut my mouth, tongue to bleeding. They offered to do another set. I waited another MONTH, wearing a surgical mask every day to work (I work in a professional setting and could not appear toothless). After a full month of delays I was presented with another set of dentures that were also completely horrible. I went to Aspen Dental and within 3 days received beautiful, comfortable dentures. Tompkins did refund $999 to my insurance company, but with much rudeness and attitude. I could say more but only have space for a quick summary. Dr. Singh seemed nice and much of the staff seemed nice (prior to requesting a refund), which I guess is why I gave Tompkins a second chance, but I can get nice from family and friends; in a dental service I need competence.
worst expience at a dental clinic ever – I was shocked at the lack of concern for the level of pain i received. I repeatedly told the dentist, who then remarked that it was because I was perceiving pain and actually the local block had worked fine. I had to be held in the chair by the dental assistant as the pain was so bad. I would not recommend this dentist to my worst enemy and will never go there again. A truly terrible experience.
