Rude, Unprofessional, NEVER GOING BACK! – Dont waste your time or money!
Yesterday two friends and myself went for a walk and lunch on Melrose. We had always walked by Antonios and decided to finally check it out.. BIG MISTAKE!!! As we were seating ourselves in the outside area, an elderly man that works there could be heard complaining to a customer why he was only given $1 tip. The cutomer said because the service was horrible. I will not mention the race of the customer but the worker then waived him off and began insulting him with racial slurs in spanish. I figured the customer was just being a douche so I felt bad for the man and decided that no matter what I would tip him good. I have never changed my mind about anything so quickly in my life! As soon as the elderly man named "Beto" began helping us, the mood went down hill completely. Not only was he not very friendly but it also took him an eternity to get us started and to get anything. Hospitality was non existant and there was this long haired fellow standing at the door hitting on every female that passed by to the point where you could tell some felt a bit uncomfortable. The workers would pop thier heads out every now and then to check on you.. Not to see if you needed anyting but to make sure you didnt dine and ditch. Finally, before we were even done they brought us our check which we had not even asked for yet. At this point we were pretty much over it so we decided to pay. We explained several times how to split the bill and they still got it wrong! I still wanted to be nice and gave the man 4X the tax but the first thing he did was pick up the split bill and stood there in front of us reviewing and staring at his tips like a bouncer reviews your I.D. when your trying to get into a club and then disrespectfuly shook his head. Then began to pms because my friend signed the copy that says customer. We were DONE!! I have never writen ANY reviews on any restaurant but the service was sooooo bad that I just had to let people know! Do not spend your money here! You will forever regret it!! Unfortunetly tourists that dont know will probably keep this place alive but honestly I get better service when I go to the DMV than this place! If your trying to have a good time.. STAY AWAY!!! The only reason why I am even giving this place 1 star is because the site will not let me continue without doing so. DO NOT GO!!!
Back in its hey days maybe – I went to Antonio?s on a Saturday night for a friend?s birthday!! It was a group of 14 women. We sat in the back where the carts that come and go on the tile floor of all the dirty dishes from the other tables in the restaurant. The chips and ketchup looking salsa was horrible. Pace Picante sauce would have been better. There $9 margarita was RATHER disappointed in regards to the size as well as the content. Antonio?s is known for the Tequila selection but they do not use it for their margaritas.
Beware!! – I went to Antonio's for dinner with my boyfriend tonight and had such a horrifying experience!. Right before dinner was served we heard the booth behind us tell their server that they saw a "huge" creepy crawler (you know what kind I mean....it's a banned Citysearch word) run across their table. When we turned around to listen to what they were saying, the cockr**** ran across the top of the backrest of OUR booth. We ran out of the booth but the ***** then FELL onto my purse and then ran across the bench and onto the floor. Everyone in the room was looking by this time. My boyfriend ended up having to step on it. The manager came over and said "No, that's a waterbug." He never saw it, though, until after it was a smashed pile on the floor. It was so disgusting I couldn't eat. To top it off, no one apologized or comped anyting from the bill! If I were them, I would have been kissing everyone's feet in that room, hoping they wouldnt report it! Yuck!
not that good, even scary at times – My party went to Antonio's for lunch. The employees were late so they opened up about 30 minutes late. Though we were hungry, we waited to try this place, especially after the reviews I read. The service and food were just ok. Nothing special at all. The guac was just one step up from the flourescent green goop you get at a convenience store. The liquid they tried to pass off as a margarita was putrid! I have never tasted anything like it. The best thing about Antonio's is their 'history'. My friend's salad looked fresh. At least it wasn't expensive
the best mexican food !!! – i have gone to many restaurants, but my favorite food is mexican, and no other place does it better than antonio's. great food great prices and a fabulous tequila list. i love their chicken mole, and also they have the best carnitas , they have it only on sundays, but well worth the try.the margaritas are so tasty, and the service is super fast, i never get my drink order that fast, except at antonio's. a must try for the fan of mexican food!
I LOVE Antonio's! – Antonio's is my favorite place for excellent Mexican food. In the summertime, it's a great place to have an afternoon margarita - they've got outdoor seating so you can enjoy the sunshine. For dinner, the food always tastes awesome and the atmosphere's perfect. It's festive without being too overdone, and some nights they have a three-piece band, which makes it even cooler. I really like the service, and I always feel welcome and comfortable. I also like the fact that the food tastes authentic without being as heavy as other places. It's got a little bit of a lighter quality, and goes down easier. I've got nothing but nice things to say about Antonio's. If you're in the mood for a really nice Mexican restaurant, this is definitely the place to go.
Jail Bird Bartender – So...my girlfriend and I are always looking for good mexican in LA...a city oddly devoid of it given its proximity to mexico and illegal immigrants cooking in every kitchen in the city. Regardless...she, a friend and myself went by one saturday afternoon for some tequila and football.
We've been happy going to Antonio's, in the past. Its Pico De Gallo is awesome being that jalapeno slices are a main ingredient. This particular time we sat at the bar for margaritas and a burrito. The burrito was amazing which they were happy to oblige by FILLING it with fresh chilies for me. FINALLY, a place that has the huevos to give a gringo some spice!!
Antonio was serving us at first. He then went to the kitchen to prepare for the dinner rush. Then the bartender took over (the dude with a long ponytail) and he had a chip on his shoulder from the start. Behind the bar bitching about his legal troubles. And finally bragging about how he solved them by threatening a local judge (a regular at the restaurant) to expose that judge for frequenting the back booth with young ladies...though that judge was married.
At the end of our meal, we decided that the three of us would just split the bill between two cards. Upon asking the aggro bartender to split the bill he says in perfect aggro-spanglish, "NO! I ain't got tine fer dat sheet, Mang!!" He refused. Then, he found a waiter how had more "time to spare". Mind you there were only two other patrons sitting at the bar and dinner rush had not even begun to filter in.
We politely told him that we probably wouldn't have "time to ever come back"...and went on our way.
Never Again – My husband and I have had dinner here several times the food is great. We recommened this location for a engagment dinner to some friends. They agreed so I mad the reservations for 18 guest. When arriving everything seem to go well. We where taken to a back room next to the kitchen where we left there for several minutes we had no waiter. No one came to take our order no one offered a glass of water. When we flagged a waiter down he advised us that he was not our waiter and he would get someone to help us. After 10min. wait no one showed up again. We then flagged another waiter that finally took our drink order and never returned with our drinks. I then walked to speak to Antonio (Owner) he then apologized and advised me he would send us a waiter. Again 15min. later a waiter shows up takes our order for food & drinks. About 35min later our food was brought to us. During this wait we did not have anything to drink, no chips/salsa. etc. When we received our food the waiter forgot th tortillas and the salsa. He advised us he would be back and again never did. After a horrible/embarrising night we felt quilty that we suggested this location my husband and I picked up the tab. And will never make any suggestions. Very disappointed....
Long-time regulars and a well-photographed cadre of celebs fill up on old-school Mexican meals. – In Short
Even when decorated with bright murals, Mexican flags and autographed celebrity photos, the long dining rooms still offer a comparatively calm respite from Melrose's bustle. Chef-owner Antonio Gutierrez specializes in the sometimes unfamiliar dishes of Oaxaca and Monterrey. Starters include chips with pico de gallo and creamy guacamole. Chicken mole is paired with hot tortillas, avocado and potato chunks bob in tortilla soup, while spinach enchiladas with stewed greens tempt vegetarians.
If only the food was decent – This charming dive on Melrose has all the makings of a good restaurant with quirky decor & good service but the food sucked big time. Watery guacamole, bland rice, tough meat and the red salsa tasted & looked like ketchup.
