A discount grocery that's like Sam's Club's cousin, twice removed. – The Scene
If you're short on cash, these mini-warehouse-style markets can save you 40 percent everyday on groceries; now that Priceline.com has terminated its grocery-discount program, this may be the best deal you're going to find. Okay, so Kaskey's isn't a major brand. But for a 39-cent can of soup, who cares? At least half of the store is full of name brands: Jimmy Dean, Cap'N Crunch (at an amazing $2.49 a box, you can rip up the roof of your mouth three times a day), Goya, Klondike, Quaker and Gatorade. And where else can you buy pigs' feet for 59 cents a pound? Hey! A block of sharp chedder is just $1.59, and it's not labeled "government." There's a great boxed-bakery section and a small produce area with average fruit and vegetable staples--you won't find avocados or mangos here.
Leave Your Taste Buds Wanting More
This is a trial-by-error kind of store, a bit shady in both the product and customer departments. The 89-cent Michelina's frozen fettuccine alfredo dinner, for example, is good, but would leave a 3-year-old hungry. The detergents and liquid soaps seem watered down. For stocking up on common items and non-speciality goods, though, Save-a-Lot is a great bet.
