Clutch – I give mad love for the Newport for it being close, relatively fair on price for any music venue, I hate how security lacks...security, a lot of drugs going on, a lot of fights, etc. Not the best scene for young adults who aren't into that stuff, but beyond that, Newport, next to the LC, is the best place in Columbus for shows.

AMAZING!! ELECTRIC!!!AWSOME!!!LOUD!!! ROCKIN!!! – i went to the Newport Music Hall on Nov. 2 to watch Academy Is.., We The Kings, Carolina Liar, and Hey Monday!! i was a little skeptical at first. considering that it was my first concert and i didnt know what to expect. and from the outside the building looked a little small... but boy was i wrong. as soon as i stepped through the door the atmosphere was buzzing. it was loud and rowdy! it was just an overall good time. i didnt anticipate such a wild pit.... but it was pretty violent. i got beer spilled on me. but nobody was hurt or trampled so it was all good. crowd surfing was fun but the bouncers were gay. the prices are a little pricey but the atmoshere was great. the bands were awesum and had good stage presence. and they were intimate with the crowd... expect to get a few autographs, a few water bottles, and drum sticks thrown by the band members!!!

Turn the Heat on!! – I recently attended a concert at the Newport Music Hall. Everything would have been fine - the music was good, the beer is a little overpriced ($4 for domestics), and it was crowded. The main problem was it was below zero temperatures outside, and they didn't have the heat on!!!! We kept our coats and gloves on but eventually had to leave because it was SO COLD!! Tickets to the concert were $19, so you would think with a couple thousand people there, they would turn up the heat!

One of the oldest rock clubs in the country shows no signs of slowing down. – The Scene
Since its days as an old ballroom theater, the venue has seen its share of wear and tear. But people don't come for the architecture. Good sight lines to the stage are usually easy to find, and air conditioning was just added in spring of 2000. When the balcony level of the club is open, the house can pack in up to 1,700 people. There is food available at some shows, but it isn't too consistent, so you may want to dine beforehand.

The Draw
In its previous incarnation as Columbus' Agora Ballroom, bands such as Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead played the stage as up-and-comers. These days, the Newport books rising and established stars of all stripes of music each month, from 311 to Three Doors Down to Steve Earle.

Simply sweet. – I've been to the Newport more times than I can count. It's small, but not cramped. Small enough to offer a personal experience with a band. The sound is great, though bouncers tend to be lame. But who cares about them anyway? The pit's always a good time and a lot of good bands play there. Plus you can just round the corner and meet your favorite artists afterward. I actually gave Joe Gittleman from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones a ride back to his hotel the last time they were in town. Righteous!

True Rock Hall – Perfect setting for a rock concert. This venue has all the fixings for a classic rock show. Its cathedral build, balcony and "dark" setting gives it all the character in the world. Hopefully it can hold on in the area it's in. The artists seem to perform more naturally here than in a "big, shiny, new venue". The Newport, "keeps it real" if such a term still exists!
