Filthy, rude, not at all streamlined or efficient. – I had heard the stories from friends that this place isn't exactly the best, but at $50 for the first 4 visits, in cash? AWESOME. Sign me up, stories be damned! I gathered my most recent paper mail, my social security card, ID and a book, and I made the long journey with visions of actually eating for once dancing in my head. Student loans are not fun. As soon as I arrived I realized that not even Kim Jong Ill would force his citizens to receive any form of medical service in a place such as this. I have seen cleaner third world clinics.
First off, the waiting room is a small, dingy, overcrowded cesspool, filled to the brim with shifty looking fellows and meth riddled bumpkins. Not really surprising in this business, but it most certainly did not feel inviting. When I approached the front desk, I had to wait 15 minutes before I was even acknowledged. There was no one in front of me. The girls were too busy buffing out their wicked long nails to do their job. None of them even seemed to care that a roach was just chilling by the filing cabinet, most likely wondering where his buddies were (they were dead; their carcasses were next to some weird looking scanner machine to the right of the desk). When they finally decided to work, they asked for my ID, SS, and the 2 pieces of mail. I provided as requested, but she told me my mail was no good since they were dated mid May. She then turned her back on me and waited for me to just leave. No room for petition, nothing. Obviously customer service is not a priority in a place where you feel all of your clients are the crap at the bottom of your sneakers after a session at the dog park. Seriously. You can have obvious signs of hard drug use, and still give plasma, but if your mail isn't up to date, you had better get the heck out of there as they don't want your kind. This is what I get for switching to paperless billing. Dear Bio-Blood, I am sorry that I have taken steps to decrease my environmental footprint and no longer receive paper mail addressed to me and not to "resident". I am sorry that a fit, healthy, hydrated, natural food eating, disease and drug free person such as myself does not meet the criteria for donating to your establishment. But do you know who I am most sorry for? People who end up using the end product created from the plasma they collect. Think about this situation. I encourage EVERYBODY to go and see for themselves. While you are there, pretend you will be needing plasma services because you just had an accident. Then look around you, because this is where it comes from. Also, please read the 5 star reviews of this establishment. They are obviously PR laden, company tools trying to establish a better image of their plasma center to compete with the other, higher quality centers just down the road. This is how they can pay closer to double than the other clinics. If you are worried about what is going in your arm, just stay clear. Did you know that to become a phlebotomist you merely have to pay $650 and take a 4 week course? Anybody can become one. You don't need to have a real education! It is no wonder that the place was staffed with rude, inattentive people who ride a high horse on a false sense of societal merit. These are the people who gave up on their dreams years ago, and have just settled in to a position in which to feed their egos while wearing a sick mask of superiority. This is the White Castle of the medical industry. The lowest common denominator.
Way too long.... – They say your first visit should be 2-3hours, mine took just under 5 hours and 30 minutes. The following visits should take 1hr - 1 hr and 30 mins. The 2nd visit took 2 hours and 30 minutes, last visit I left after an hour and no one was called back to donate. They say they open at 7am, but it was 10 after 8 until the first person was actually hooked up. Don't go early and expect to get out early.
Effecient! – I like this place, they're so effecient and make it as painless as possible. On top of that they pay the most- almost double what other places pay. I suggest this place to everyone. Make sure you bring two pieces of mail in the envelope with your name on it and postmarked within the last 30 days. It is required to provide proof of current address!
Fantastic Place – I have been going here for over 3 years now. I have always liked them and the staff is very professional. They just recently (today) changed their new donor payments. The first 4 times a brand new person goes, they get $50 each visit. And they are offering referral bonuses to regular donors. I brought my friend in today and they donated, I got an extra $5.
As long as you don't go to any other plasma places, the time is super quick. If you have been to one, then your first 2-3 times may be a bit longer than what I spend there. I am usually in and out within 2 hours.
This is also the only place in Columbus that gives you cash- everyone else gives you debit cards that charge for every transaction.
I am recommending everyone to this place cause it's awesome!
