Great breakfast diner! – We loved Jack and Benny's! We were walking along High Street prior to an OSU football game and not part of Ohio State fervor and when we stopped to look at the menu. A friendly woman came out to tell us she had an open table. We truly enjoyed the experience. A true old fashioned diner with an experienced short order cook. Very rare these days. The food was hot and tasty. Our server anticipated our needs and was unobtrusive. We will go back the next time in Columbus. Loved it!
Awkward – I would not go back here, or recommend this to anyone I know. When walking in I didn't know we were supposed to sign our own name up for a table. Also, when we did get seated, it was in the same room everyone else was waiting for a table. When we got our food it was extremely awkward because we were eating in front of a room full of people waiting to eat!
The omelet was good though. The pancake I had however, not so appetizing. I would go to Hangover Easy any day before I go back here!
Best Breakfast Around – I am a student at OSU, and I love Jack and Benny's. The food is delicious, I highly recommend the Jack, Benny, or Gut Buster. The pancakes are also a must, and the coffee is perfectly acceptable.
It's a small diner that has been around for decades, and the walls are plastered with photos of Columbus and OSU through the years.
The prices are great, with the full platters costing $6 and change, most items under $2-3.
There are no separate checks, it is posted at the register. That means that my roommate and I usually take turns paying. Alternatively, plan ahead and just make sure everyone brings small bills.
It is convenient to the city bus, but I usually drive.
Parking may seem impossible, but there's a trick.
Do NOT park at the Taco Bell next door, they are strict about towing. However, across High St. there is a huge parking lot where the Blockbuster and Raleigh's are, and there are NO towing issues there.
I always park at the end near the street, a few rows away from the drive through. Cross the intersection and you are standing outside the restaurant.
Yum. Yum. Yum.
Skip This One – While visiting Columbus, we decided to try Jack & Benny's because of good reviews on sevral sites. It was easy to find, looked and smelled like a great breakfast place. But, we were promplty informed that our entire party must receive one check...no splitting and no exceptions per the waitress. When we asked to pay seperate...3 couples, we were greeted with a rude "no." I was also a little leary because there were boxes of pancake batter from Gordon Food Service lined up in the back hallway. A place like this, I would expcet a homemade batter. I'd say move on to another breakfast place.
Tops When It Comes To Breakfast!!! – Jack and Benny's in Clintonville - one of those if you blink you might miss it kind of places. Sitting at the corner of Hudson and High, it is perfect for those coming from the North or those campus kids looking for a reasonably priced bite to eat.
My daughter and I found it surely by accident quite a few years ago. We were going on one of our patented school days off adventure- hopping on the Cota up in Worthington and working our way towards downtown. We were both starved and looking out the window for a potential place to eat - and there it was - the sign "BREAKFAST SERVED ALL DAY" - so we jumped off the bus and into the restaurant.
The food is diner food - and if you know anything about diner food - you know it usually is the best breakfast food around! The eggs are always cooked to perfection - and the hashbrowns are nice and crispy - just like I like them. And the ambiance - wait staff rushing here to there with plates of food, and cups of coffee. The grill is right behind the counter so you can watch your food as it cooks and listen for the ultimate sound "order up" But that's not it - the walls are filled with pictures to take you down 'memory lane' and the bobble heads - they have so many osu and brutus buckeye bobble heads but the ones I like the best... the island of misfit toys.
After a good, filling breakfast - the bill comes - and it's usually somewhere around the price of pocket change! You can't beat the bargain!!
The biggest draw backs are parking and the restuarant is small. So if you come on a weekend - be prepared to wait outside. But as to the parking - the bus lets off right in front - no mess no fuss! You owe it to yourself to try this quaint little place- you will be glad you did!
Fantastic Breakfast Choices – We came for breakfast and loved it. We have sat at the counter twice, and asked to sit at the counter 2 more times. Ask someone to point out the sign in list when you get there. The grill work is mesmorizing. We found a great many choices for breakfast. There are daily specials on the chalkboard. They serve omelet options not available on any other breakfast menu's. Many pancake options. Parking on the street is terrible. We'll go back after the road construction is finished.
Love This Place : ) – I love going to Jack and Bennys. It is true that there is not a lot of available parking and the inside is very small so you usually have to wait outside but the food is excellent and at an affordable cost. I love the interior because it is filled with old pictures and tons of Ohio State bobble heads are on display. The food always comes fast and I have always had very friendly service. All in all this place is 100% worth trying and I recommend it for anyone in the area!
Best breakfast ever. New menus, I had the best waitress ever there!!!! Parking is tough and the lines can get big but its well worth the wait esp for the price! – Try one of the busters or get the banana pancakes anything and everything I have tried I have really enjoyed!
I Agree that they are RUDE! – I too was kicked out! And, the food is often greasy and lacks imagination. I am sticking to First Watch. At least there I get what I pay for AND get to finish it too! If you go, expect poor service and rushed atmosphere.
RUDE! – I have eaten at this place many times. The food is mediocre and greasy. On my most recent visit, I was eating and was asked to leave because there were people waiting for a table!! They had an entire separate room with no one seated in it and we hadn't finished our food!!!
