Cool Catz run this store! – I stopped eating at Sparingos on the West Side because I didn't like the bad part of town it's in, but this place is much more my style! The food is great -- you MUST try a Heavy Duty -- and although the delivery isn't as fast as it is on Hague, it's still primo. I love the ingredients and the subs are not bad, either. All in all, the staff is much more clean than on the West Side (they don't just sit around and watch ESPN like the other place lol) and it's a fantastic place to eat a Heavy Duty pizza! A+ would recommend again.
Don't believe the everything you read! – Ok. Let's get something straight. It's not the most professionally run place, and the employees can get a bit flustered when busy, but the pizza is exceptional. The last two posters are absolutely full of it. I've had every pizza in the Grandview area, and this is my favorite. If you like Tommy's or Donato's, this is not the pie for you. My biggest problem with the place is when they run out of stuff. The make the dough and the sauce from scratch every morning at the Hague location and bring it over, and when they're out, they're out. Happens to me about every fourth time I call them. Frustrating, but I'm used to it. The other downer is their hours. Not open real late, and I always eat late. Occasionally on off nights when they're slow, the owner will call in and just tell them to close up and go home. This is very nearly unforgivable in my book, having spent some time in the restaurant business in my younger days. Your hours should be your hours. Period. I've vented to them on numerous occasions to no avail. The owner does what he wants. His prerogative, but bad business. So, between running out of things, closing early, and limited regular business hours, I SHOULD hate the place, right? But I can't. It's too good. In an odd sort of way, it's shortcomings sort of add to the place's appeal. You kind of have to fight to get your pie, and sometimes you can't have it. Makes you want it more the next time!! If it was run like a proper business and had later hours, I'd give it 6 stars. If you're feeling adventurous and really hungry, try the "Heavy Duty". I actually started laughing at the counter when I picked one up for the first time. I swear it must weigh 4 pounds! Double everything toppings and double cheese. Not for the calorie counter or those watching their cholesterol, but quite impressive!! ; ))
Don't bother. – We decided to try Sparano's last weekend. After they screwed up our order, my wife called back to let them know. She was eventually harrassed for trying to scam a free pizza out of them, even though she never asked for any kind of compensation.
This pizza itself is the worst we have had in Grandview, and the customer service was inexcusable. We won't be back. Ever.
Go somewhere else – I tried Sparano's since I got a coupon for a free pizza in the mail. I thought it was pretty terrible. It tastes like a frozen pizza with a lot of extra cheese thrown on top. My husband has never met a pizza he didn't like and he even thought this pizza was gross. There are so many other pizza options in Grandview so save your money and go somewhere else.
Nice Spicy Sauce....definitely a great pizza – I've been eating Mama Lena's about once a week for six months now. I have tried all the local pizzas and found that Mama's just knows their sauce the best. The price is standard for any local pizza 10 dollars...actually 9.95 for a large single topping. The crust is thin and crispy and the cheese is always nicely browned. They even have green olives which are sometimes hard to get, though I don't know why.
I was never a sauce person but this is so different and wonderful that you have to try it. It has a zing that offsets the cheese perfectly. If you haven't tried it...you must!
Great Pizza Every Time – I am a regular customer, I have also tried other pizza shops in the area. This is by far my favorite, plus it is only a short walk from my apartment. The crust is thin and crunchy, baked in a traditional pizza oven. And the sauce was slightly spicy. I would recommend this pizza place to anyone, A+
