Serious moviegoers will be in cinephile heaven at this cozy video rental shop..
The Scene
Video Central, located in an old German Village furniture shop, features creaky hardwood floors, old-fashioned wallpaper and stained-glass windows. Its front window displays are the most inventive in town.
One Word: DVDs
Video Central's owner, who owns three other local video shops, decided years ago that DVDs were the future. The Livingston Avenue shop boasts 7,000 videos--but also 3,000 DVDs. The four stores together circulate 20,000 DVDs, which employees say is the biggest DVD collection in the state and the seventh biggest in the country.
Cult Films and More
Video Central has sections devoted to Siskel & Ebert faves, films of interest to the African-American community, martial arts movies and Japanese anime. A separate "Alternative Lifestyles" room holds a puzzling mix of cult films, soft-core adult movies and GLB-themed films.
