Anatomy of a health museum: imaginative and interactive exhibits that help even the youngest visitors understand the human body and its proper care. – The Scene
The Health Museum has undergone recent remodeling (plastic surgery?). Signature attraction Juno the Transparent Woman is still on display; she's been joined by a surprisingly varied and entertaining corpus of exhibits.
Designed with both adults and children in mind, the Health Museum offers more than 150 presentations that are intelligent, attractively designed, and mostly hands-on. Learn all about your own body and how to keep it healthy through good nutrition and exercise. Stroll through a giant, two-story ear and see (and hear) how it works. Programs range from basic physiology to family health, and the museum doesn't shy away from serious subjects like substance abuse and AIDS. The entire family can get involved, and there's also plenty of fun stuff for the younger set.
The human body can be scary – Who doesn't remember coming here on a school field trip and being completely horrified by the giant revolving brain? Just thinking of it again makes me shudder, how we had to walk through it to discover its inner workings. Such an impact this had on my youth -- and I highly recommend a trip to the recently remodeled Health Museum to anyone who hasn't been there since grade 2. Great reproductive-organ display and a very good eyes-nose-throat area, as well.
