Awful Service and Dirty Dishes. – I went with my boyfriend to Der Braumeister for sweetest day dinner and the service was awful. First when we sat down we saw that one of our water glasses had lipstick on it. Then I was told they did not have sprite so when the waiter came back he was giggling and said "whoops we do have sprite but here's your root beer." The appetizer came after 30 minutes and the toppings on it were way too large to be on such a small pizza and we couldn't cut them because we didn't have any silverware due to the fact that no one had brought us any. We had to ask for silverware and the waiter laughed again and said that he meant to get us some earlier. Then after we finished the appetizer I had to asked the waiter again if he could please bring us some napkins because he hadn't provided us with any. He said once again that he had meant to bring us some earlier. I also had not received my side salad or rolls that came with my entree, so I had to asked the waiter once more if I was going to get them. He said, surprisingly, that he had meant to get them for me. At this point we asked to speak to the manager.
She came over and asked what was wrong, we started by mentioning the lipstick on the glass and she quickly said she'd take care of the glass and started to walk away. I had to tell her as she was walking away, that the glass was not the only problem we had experienced. We explained everything and she said she'd handle it and walked away. We waited ten minutes and she never returned. We put our coats on and started to walk out and that's when we saw the manager just standing behind the bar. Another waitress asked, what was wrong and we told her we were leaving and she went to get the manager again. When the manager came over, she asked what was going on, and we told her that we needed to leave and her response was simply, "ok."
She didn't even care about her customers.
It was all around an awful experience, where it felt like we had to wait on our waiter. For a higher priced restaurant, I would expect significantly better service and more effort to satisfy the customer. If I had wanted dirty dishes and careless service then I would've gone to some cheap 24/7 diner. Finally after spending close to an hour in the restaurant and not even receiving our entrees, it was a very good decision to leave and celebrate sweetest day elsewhere.
Good Food, Good Service, Great Beer Selection and Pleasant/F – We went for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the meal and had a lovely tour and conversation with the owners. There was a vast selection on the menu and we will definitely return!
Good German food in Cleveland – I've been here twice. I'm currently living in Germany and like to bring family members here when I come home to visit so they can have a little taste of Germany. The beer menu is great and the food is good. The cook is Hungarian so some of the food tends to taste more Hungarian than German with the seasonings but it's still the best you're going to find in the area. Yes, there are "American" items on the menu as well but personally, I like that. Not everyone is wild about German food and having traditional American fare on the menu ensures that everyone can find something to eat.
The staff has always been friendly and attentive and we were even offered tastings of a few of their different wines last time we were there. I've had a great experience both times and plan on returning next time I'm back for a visit.
Very disappointing, especially for the price – The food was good, but at $50 for two people it wasn't that good.
They have a great selection of beer as any respectable German restaurant should, but the menu is small and the claim of the food being authentic is laughable at best. Of the "German-American" menu, only about half of the selection is German food with the other half being split between pseudo-European and American cuisine.
The food is incredibly overpriced with the average entree on the menu being about $19 when most entrees are simple enough to make at home without any real trouble.
Service is atrociously slow and inattentive. It took us nearly 10 minutes to get our check after requesting it with two servers taking care of only three occupied tables in the entire place and our server only checked on us once during the course of our meal.
I will not be visiting again.
Overpriced for Horrible Quality Food – After spending 10 months in Germany, I was craving "traditional German food" and thought I would try this recommended restaurant. I was appalled at the quality of the food. I had the Geschmorter Scheinsbraten, which this restaurant served as slices of pork which tasted like deli meat with cheap canned gravy and a side of canned sauerkraut. The "traditional bread dumplings" (Knodels) they served were small slices of wet french bread fried on one side - think half cooked french toast. The general taste was of a cheap frozen dinner. Needless to say Der Braumeister charged $17 for this meal, you can make at home for $3.
The other people I came with had the Schnitzel, which was a pancaked battered schnitzel - not the traditional bread crumbed coating. That cost $19 each! You could cook this at home for a family of 4 for $8! One person had the St. Mortiz Schnitzel which tasted like schnitzel with Paul Newman's Pasta sauce on it. So much for "homecooked" food?
Overall, I found that the prices for the food were highway robbery for the quality of the food. If you are craving real German food - look online for recipes and cook it at home! Schnitzel is super easy to cook yourself, and you can now buy Spatzel (by Maggi) at Heinen's and World Market for $3.99 for a box of delicious easy spatzel.
The beer was really good - but the food was horrible, not "traditional" and you could have a better meal at home or at Denny's.
SHOWTIME!!!! – People,
If you are looking for incredible food, service, and beer within a German environment, then you must check this place out.
I recommend the Sausage Combo Platter with a Warsteiner (dark). But, everything is incredible so no need to target one entree.
Showtime!!!! Best way of explaining it.
Wunderbar!!! – One of the most authentic restaurants I have ever been to outside of Deutschland!!!Food was amazing and beer was great!
