A neighborhood joint with flay-vuh...of the marinara variety. – The Scene James Dominic's is an institution. Unlike so many chains and newbies on the suburban scene, this place is here to stay. For eons (in restaurant-years) Dominic's has been wooing westsiders with its relaxed atmosphere and appetizing fare. Both daters and families line up to partake in the cozy non-smoking atmosphere Dominic's offers. Great music and service along with a newly renovated dining room make this joint an inviting place to twirl your noodles. Or as the facade seems to suggest, hurl tomatoes. The Skinny When you talk about the Dominic's crowd you gotta mention the devotion. Many of the restaurant's patrons are regulars who even don T-shirts spouting Dominic's catch phrase, "Because Italy is too far to drive..." That being said, Dominic's makes a good case for not attempting to cross the pond. Not straying far from tried-and-true Italian-American staples, Dominic's prepares the familiar menu well. And the food should be good, the prices run higher than most places west of Tremont. From the quality brusheta and tomato and mozzarella salad to the satisfying penne a la vodka and eggplant parmesano, you won't be disappointed with the portions. Vegetarians beware, there are but a couple of entrees that didn't at one point have faces. But, you could just come for the better-than-chocolate-cake desserts that include bananas foster and root beer floats among others. As far as the vino is concerned Dominic's has covered the bases with an extensive and unusual wine list. Oh, and there is also a bar at which to wait for a table or just sip on an after-work Shirley Temple. Tip Sheet: When the weather is warm Dominic's patio opens and you can enjoy your lasagna while watching those on 90 speed past below. Also, you can host your luncheon, bridal shower or any group event at Dominic's for groups between 20 and 80.
