Fresno's premier Latin museum re-creates the feel of Mexico with clothing, crafts, literature and art. – The Scene
Underrated and undervisited, this museum revolves around the Latino and American experience, with exhibits ranging from pre-Columbian art to the modern work of present-day Hispanic artists. Historical exhibits are common, especially those focusing on many of Mexico's individual provinces. A museum priority is educating the public on issues surrounding Latin America, Latino immigrants, and their descendants.
"Manos Artesanas Voluntad Divina" features folk art of rural Oaxacan communities and the photography of Jorge Acevedo Mendoza. Iluipils (overblouses with colorful thread designs) from San Miguel El Progreso are one of several exhibits. Master weavings, along with a handmade loom, introduce visitors to Santa Ana del Valle's beautiful textile traditions.
Art and literature are equally exhibited, emphasizing the ties between Latin America and its people. Don't be surprised to hear music samples and oral history presentations; these become familiar sounds to visiting ears.
