Not so much a greasy pub for a city daily as a healthy, wheatgrass shooting, veggie-friendly environment with a magazine stand and a coffee shop.

French toast that I wish I could freeze and reheat every morning. Also, a better, cheaper alternative to "The Ivy" across the street with probably more celebrity sightseeing anyway.

Healthy Options That Taste Good – The food is great and the healthy options are everywhere. Can't go wrong ordering from the sandwich menu -- the veggie burger and the turkey sando are good. The chinese chicken soup -- not salad -- is really good. And the juice/coffee bar is great. Servers sometimes take 20 minutes between table visits and unfortunately parking on Robertson is a nightmare. Don't trip running here, but when you wind up in the restaurant, you'll definitely enjoy it.

Healthy choices – They have a great menu with lots of fairly healthy stuff to choose from. Now, I could honestly do without watching CNN while trying to digest my food - but then again it's the "Newsroom" Cafe, right?

Great place for a Healthy Lunch – The Newsroom is a great restaurant for those looking to eat healthy food. They have a Newsstand full of all kinds of magazines you can read while you wait for a table. There are many celebrities there and The Ivy is right across the street so you will always see a famous person. The food and atmosphere were amazing! I just wish it didn't take so long for a table!

Great Veggie Burger – When I ate here I had the veggie burger and it was excellent. The special cilantro mayo pulled the burger together and the veggie chips were delicious...dipped with the mayo!

GREAT Food, SUPERB Customer Service, EXCELLENT Veggie Burger – One of the best places for food, service AND ambience. And celebrity-spotting if that's something you enjoy. Staff is very friendly, the cuisine is Californian (I guess). For a vegetarian like myself, this place is a godsend. The veggie burger is simply delicious. My wife and kids love Newsroom.

Good times! – I love this place. Friday night's with Josh tending bar are great. It's not the kind of place where you go for a romantic dinner or anything other than casual, but the food is good and Josh is great at the bar. My wife absolutely loves him, so much that I may start to worry if she asks to go too often. I usually sit at the bar or do business on my laptop . I definitely recommend this place.

Exceptionally Delicious – This place is in the center of hussle and bustle. So yes, parking and traffic will be some what of an issue here. But, if you want some good healthy food, then I have found few I could really recommend. The only thing that could make this place better is more delightful workers. If you are used to a country-style homelyness than this place might turn you off, but if your used to the LA vibe of where everybody is in a hurry and just trying to get through the day then you will be good here. It was delicious and had reasonable servings for the price. The biggest bonus at this restaurant is that you can get REAL freshly juiced... juice. Again, for a reasonable price too. I would go back and I would recommend this place to my friends.

Great smoothies !! – My hubby and myself and two kids often frequent this restaurant. It's kinda three things all rolled into one...a coffee house, a magazine stand and then the sit down restaurant. The atmosphere is very casual, very casual patrons...jeans,flip flops t shirts, etc. This place is pretty dang healthy, so if your looking for greasy, fattening food ( ya know the good stuff ) Ha Ha, then this place isn't for you. Even though we're not healthy eaters( yes,I admit it ), we still like this place. The drink menu is great, wonderful fruit and veggie drinks, and they have a great mint ice tea. The Veggie burger is great, as are a few other sandwiches. The best appetizer is the Hummus, it comes with great pita bread and some grilled veggies !!! Our kids like the quesadillas. Honestly though , we like to come here and get the smoothies and hummus in the midday rather than getting a full meal. The servers are always pleasant and the place is always clean. The bathrooms are clean, but for some reason the trash can in the ladies bathroom is always overflowing !!! like everytime we go. So do try this place. As for the prices..it can get pricey, especially when the smoothies average four bucks or so, and we always finish and want another one, I can't remember the exact prices of everything, but for a family of four, I wouldn't say it's cheap, but there's not too many places that are anymore I guess.

Pretty good roasted artichoke – Food here isn't outrageously fantastic, but for what it is -- a casual, bustling lunch spot -- it gets the job done. The fire-roasted artichoke (which the waiters will tell you is 'amazing') is pretty good, but not amazing. (The best I've had is at Pace in Laurel Canyon.) There's a long magazine stand inside the main restaurant, so if you're alone and want to read a mag while you eat, it's convenient. I'd pass on most of the desserts, but the salads are ok.

Great Vegetarian options, great service – Low key place where you can have fun people watching and catch up on the latest dirt with all the magazines.... Parking can be a pain if you don't know to go underneath and valet... the artichoke is amazing and so are the buffalo wings!! I am a vegan and I never get sick of them. The service is great.... Seems like a fun place to work . everytime I go I seem to have a waitress or waiter with a great sense of humor... I usually bring people from out of town here when they visit,.... I live a few block s away and I consider it my home away from home... It's a good feeling when you go somewhere and people remember you, where you feel like a regular... " like everybody knows your name".

Anyway, it's a great place... Just find parking underneath or get lucky at a meter!!

My Favorite Restaurant 10 Years Running – I just happened to read the previous negative review. I am shocked. I have been a good customer at the Newsroom (including my family and friends) for the past 10 years. I have never been treated like you describe. One of the reasons I frequent this establishment every week during these many years is because of the service I receive from everyone including Jenny. She makes our meals so enjoyable and always makes us laugh.

By the way I am not a celebrity and I am a person of color.

Thank you , John.

Terrible 1st experience – The venue and the menu are not good enough to have to tolerate discriminatory service. My boss and I went for lunch and when we walked in and told the waitress that it was only the two of us and we wanted to eat outside, she looked at us and told us to grab our own menus. We were seated and the service was extremely poor; it took long for us to get our drinks and even longer to receive our food, we were not asked at any point if everything was fine or if we wanted anything else. Additionally, the waitress, named Jennifer, never made eye contact and when we asked for napkins, she tossed them on our table! It was a terrible experience and although, the establishment is one that I initially wanted to take my friends and family to?the sour taste that was left in my mouth with the disrespectful service that we received and the lack of action taken by the representative that I expressed this concern to, will prevent me from returning!!! I walked way thinking that it was non-celebrity status and/or color of my skin that provoked these distasteful actions.

Best Carrot Cake Ever!!! – I absolutely loved the NEWSROOM, you don't have to be a vegan or vegetarian to enjoy. The atmosphere is awesome and the food is delicious. I highly recommend this place to everyone looking for a relaxed atmosphere, great service and fab food!

Healthy food, Great Service... – Best food for health freaks!! Their veggie burgers are extremely tasty and I recommend them for people who want healthy food but dont want to sacrifice taste. The staff is very friendly and I was seated promptly. There are many celebrities there as well. Perfect for people watching.

Great food for the health freaks – Great tasting food for people who like to eat healthy. They have newspapers and magazines to read while you are waiting for your food. The staff is quite friendly and polite as well. Very good place for people watching, I always see celebrities when i eat here.

Something for Everyone – Great place for the health conscious and huge menu variety....something for everyone! We were a party of 4 on a Sunday afternoon and It did not take long to be seated. The food was very tasty. Our waitress was friendly, quick and very responsive. She "broke' a rule and allowed the 4 of us to split our tab on 4 separate credit cards. Parking on Roberton is challenging, although there is parking in the office building next to Newsroom. Keep in mind Newsroom will validate parking, however it only reduces the amount you pay. Parking isn't free w/ validation.

Great food and fantastic service! – I have no idea what the last reviewer is talking about. No meat? Huh? Yes, they have healthy dishes for vegetarians and vegans, but they also serve chicken, fish, and filet mignon. The grilled artichoke is the best I've ever had.

'News'Flash: We Serve No Meat! – Calling all vegans/vegetarians, whatever...If health food is YOUR thing unlike mine, this will be your mecca. Only healthy food graces the pages of their menu. Service was good though. Since this restaurant is located directly across from The Ivy, watch your step when leaving. You just might trip over some papparazi.

Health Food Galore – The hostess lacks a smile (unless I suppose you are a movie star), but the waiters are relatively friendly. The menu is filled with tofu, greens and soy, so if you are an avid meat and fat eater, do not come here. If your thing is eating healthy and staying trendy, this is the place to go and people watch. It's always busy and the smooties can be taken away (the red ape is delicious), worth a look while shopping on robertson.

Healthy Food and the Meat Eater – Getting here on a Sunday at noon I thought there would be a long wait, but we were seated promptly. My experience with health food restaurants is limited, but I found the food wonderful. I'm not a big artichoke person, but the grilled artichoke with the tofunaise was very tasty. I'd also recommend the chicken sandwich with avocado, it was fantastic. The only bad thing I have to say is the waitress we had was pretty terrible, and I felt like she was rushing. Asking her for suggestions seemed like I punched her in the stomach. Getting the check was a chore in itself. Adding to that parking is ridiculous. I was there for a little over an hour and it cost me $7 to get out of the parking structure. Find street parking if you can or park further away. The smoothies weren't anything special, Jamba Juice is better.

A healthy, affordable treat – The food is so good, healthy, and often unique...the wait staff is generally friendly while the host staff seems to think they're guarding the site of the Holy Grail or something...even when it's not busy. Great tea and juice selection, everything I've ever had here has been really good (and I've had a lot!)! They have an extensive menu and allow for customizing all their options. The portions are often large enough to share a few things...the tofu/mayo alternative is so yummy, I'd eat it on it's own....

Wonderfully healthy – You can always walk out of Newsroom feeling healthy and content plus it doesn't burn a hole in your pocket. I would recommend getting one of the many salads they offer. It's fun also for the celeb spotting there.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE – Two friends and I came in for a late lunch on a Saturday. We were initially perturbed by the negative 'tude from the hostess, despite the "no bad attidudes" proclamation on the front door. While we twiddled our thumbs waiting for a table, she proceeded to seat other customers ahead of us. I was initially turned off by the seeming hostility of the hostess, but was willing to be comforted by an apologetic manager. Unfortunately, his attitude was worse. He not only questioned our concerns but was equally as rude. At Newsroom, evidentally, the customer is never right. Despite the 30 minutes we had already invested waiting, we took our hunger elsewhere.

Citysearch Editorial Review – A blend of media cafe and heart-healthy restaurant, this popular Robertson Boulevard cafe is where hanging TVs cycle cable news, LED displays churn like ticker tapes, and magazine racks hawk the latest rags. Although open all day, the Newsroom becomes a celeb-heavy eating club after dark. On the menu: dishes like the smoked tofu-field green salad sparked with spicy cashews and mango vinaigrette, and the sesame flatbread slathered with eggplant chutney. The juice bar slings fruit and veggie drinks, while the bar offers watermelon margaritas.

Healthy and hip – One of the best outdoor patios in the city -- cool enough for the fabulous people, but everyone gets a table, if you're willing to wait. Do not go another day without trying their blue cornbread, served in a mini cast-iron skillet with three kinds of fresh salsa -- heaven!

went on a whim – I was watching Bowling for Columbine and noticed one of the interviews in the film was filmed here. The reviews I read on this site made this place sound snobby and overated. I dressed accordingly and assumed the prooper self-important attitude. The people watching IS great. For a poor boy with a Paris Hilton fetish, this place did me right. I bought a six dollar bowl of soup that was decent; I was paying for the view more than the food. Everyone looks hot, VERY L.A. Sit outside.

Don't bother – Tried it for the first time yesterday for lunch and wasn't impressed. My 2 friends and I stood at the front forever to be seated. The food was very average. Scenery was so much like a chain restaurant. I prefer something a little on the charming side. Il Piccolino up the street is much, much better if you ask me.

The food is great...and HEALTHY...for a very reasonable price...one of the cheapest dinners I've had in L.A. Great value. The service was excellent, and the restaurant itself has a great vibe. I've introduced many of my friends to the Newsroom, and they've all loved it and have gone back to eat many times. One of my favorites!

Creative juices flowing – The Newsroom is a fabulous restaurant to take diverse eaters. I'm vegan...not the rest of my group. Yeah, I eat with delight. The tremendously enjoy everything. Mine is always better....they're thinking about eating vegan now.

Decent, but overpriced – I guess reasonable prices aren't to be expected in this neighborhood. There's a lot of interesting-looking stuff on Newsroom's menu, but most of it is overpriced.

The place does have a nice outdoor seating area, though.

Call me "Miss" NOT "Ma'am" – I was looking forward to eating at the Newsroom since I heard great things about it. My experience was a huge dissapointment. The wait staff, especially the hostess, was extremely rude. I was

told by the hostess, in a very degrading manor, not to call her "Ma'am", but instead "Miss." Exuse me for trying to be polite. Snootiness must have been the special for the day.....

Love it! – This is a great place to eat for two good reasons: it has a cool, hip atmosphere and the food is about the healthiest I've ever seen. There is an odd variety so if you're picky or used to the traditional, be prepared to struggle finding something you'd want. But, for an adventurous eater, this place rocks.

Keep in mind to customize some of the things you order, like adding cheese to your omlete, because some of the things I've eaten were pretty bland before tweaking it a little.

Nice outdoor cafe, great juice bar and magazines to buy. Very cool and very much a hot spot.

anonymous – I like this place. It's helpful to come back and customize what you have, like getting cheese on your omlette, because some stuff might taste flavorless if you're not used to eating really healthy. I love that there is healthy place to eat right by my house, and it's great that they sell magazines. I don't really like the indoor atmosphere. It's sort of lame - too empty.

THE PLACE TO BE!!! – This place is great! The staff is very outgoing and absolutely hysterical!! If you have to wait for a table its definitely worth it... especially for one outside. You never know who you will run into at the Newsroom.

Breakfast Scene – This is a prime people-watching spot. Go for breakfast and brunch, but expect a wait on the weekends. The food is kind of artsy and innovative -- and definitely healthy -- but that can become a problem, too. Some dishes just lack that extra little something, probably because cutting out the fat sometimes sacrifices flavor. That said, there's plenty of goodies to try. Pancakes, waffles and skillet corn bread are all excellent. Juice is supreme as well, though a bit pricey. Eggs are OK, not as good as the sweeter offerings.

Good location – The place is large and gets a lot of sun and air...which is perfect for SoCal. The food was just whatever. I tried their breakfast, pasta, and vegetarian dishes, and none of those were anything but average. As for the service, the waitress took our order promptly and brought the food out quickly. However, I couldn't get her or anyone to get me some ketchup for 10 minutes.

Leisurely Eats – Given the service at this place is not speedy, its part of why I go there. If I wanted to eat quick and get out Id go somewhere else. Its simply nice to sit outside, and I suggest you do, and enjoy the weather and people watching on Robertson. The menu is very extensive and Ive never had anything I would not order again.

The scoop on the Newsroom – The Maui vegetarian burger and terra chips were great, when I got it! I don't know maybe it was the time of day...who knows, but the service seemed to take way too long to get our food to us..and it was take out. It's been awhile since I went 2 weeks ago, the food is still as great as ever, the decor is nice...but the service...needs a little improvement... but I still reccomend it! :)
