A trip I put off making forever – My son and I have made a habit of visiting new places on Tuesday nights when my wife and daughter are otherwise occupied. Since we both enjoy BBQ, we've made trips to many of the Q joints in the area, some that we've found good and others not so good. This was a trip I'd put off for a long time, but I had the taste for brisket tonight, so I thought the time was perfect.
No, it's not much to look at from the outside, but being housed in an old Frisch's pretty much guarantees a mediocre decorating scheme from the start. Who cares? Inside the menu is fairly simple, which is a point in its favor. I chose a brisket sandwich with baked beans and mac & cheese. My son went with a pulled pork sandwich with mac & cheese. I watched as they sliced the brisket for my sandwich. From a distance it looked great, with the meat piled high and pieces slipping off of the bun as I carried it to the table. I grabbed a piece to munch on while I was getting my drink, and couldn't wait to get back to the table.
The verdict was just what I'd hoped for; a new favorite BBQ destination. The brisket was tremendous, the mac & cheese likewise. The beans were also very good. I forced my son, normally a pulled pork steadfast, to try a piece of the brisket. He agreed that it was great and said that he'd have a brisket sandwich the next time we chose BBQ Revue, which will likely be soon now that the weather is turning colder.
One other thing to mention is the iced tea. In BBQ joints this is a crucial part of the meal. It has to be sweet, but not tooth-rottingly so. The tea here was fresh and came in three flavors, sweet, unsweet and raspberry. I tried all three because I've found that this is an area that a lot of places stumble. BBQ Revue didn't disappoint and we'll definitely visit again.
BBQ Review??? – A friend told me about BBQ Review.
So we finally wen't there tonight.
The place is a pit!
The ribs were terrible!
Over smoked! Do they even use a rub of any kind?
Very bad and bland!
The sauce is like dishwater... thin and runny... the only sauce they had.
I got a full slab... $17.95 and I got the mac n cheese which was ok. I got the beans which were not all that good. All we wanted was a refund. I spent $26. and change for a dinner that was REALLY bad.
After arguing with an employee she did FINALLY refund $17.95.
My advice to you is if you want really good ribs... go to Walt's! This whole deal at the BBQ Review was a terrible experience. I will NEVER go back!
Do they have a minus 10 stars here???
Brisket is among the best I ever had! – The bad, I dont care for the sauce
The good, The flavor of the beef is amazing, I use my own sauce, I routinely get 4- 5 pounds at a time for parties, have never tasted its equal. The pork is great ,and so is the half chicken.
I have eaten at bbq places all over the south, and some in the west, I have had some really good brisket over the years, In my opinion this is the best, and thats not to say others havent come close, just that BBQ reviews brisket is always consistant and delicious. Keep doing your thing guys!!
The best beef brisket in town! – If you are looking for a great beef brisket, skip Famous Dave's and head straight to BBQ Revue. It is absolutely amazing. You get a nice big sandwich for right about three bucks and some change. The sauce is underrated and delicious! The sides are great also. The macaroni and cheese is a must.
Editorial Review – Finger-lickin' barbecue specialties for dine-in, carryout or catering, at a lower price than most other area rib joints.
BBQ Revue IS BBQ – Puh-lease. Since when does being from Tennessee qualify anyone as an expert in anything? As if being "southern" wasn't bad enough, y'all's habit of drowning meat in sickeningly sweet sauce until you can't taste the meat is a culinary travesty!
At BBQ Revue, you'll find slow cooked ribs and brisket that's the best in Cincinnati. The sauce is simple, made from a vinegar base, not molasses and is a savory compliment to the tender meat.
The full rack of Ribs for 15 bucks and change is a "10"
BBQ? It's a sin to call that stuff BBQ! – Yes, I'm southern. I'm from Tennessee where we *know* how barbecue is supposed to taste and Barbecue Revue is awful! The pulled pork here tasted like something my elementary school cafeteria used to serve from a can, not a shoulder smoked for 18-24 hours in a pit over a low fire. And REAL barbecue is NOT supposed to come drenched in disgustingly greasy orange sauce - it's supposed to come dry (which means without sauce, not lacking juice) and you have the choice of hot or mild sauce waiting on your table! This "pork" was so greasy it soaked the bottom of the bun in under five minutes. It also tasted like liquid smoke was added to disguise to the uneducated that it had not, in fact, been truly "barbecued" but, more likely, been cooked on a stovetop or in an oven. I'll never eat here again!
