Reviews for Colerain Animal Clinic

I honestly would have given this clinic more stars if it weren't for one very rude receptionist- a woman named Josie/Joey. I have 2 dogs, one is eleven years old, and one is 4. And, they have both been well cared for at the clinic for the entirety of their lives. I have seen all the veterinarians there, Dr. Ashley being the most frequent. My experience was well until today:

Around 11:20AM, I got a call from Josie/Joey to give me my dog's "serum condition" test results back. It appears as though they basically ran a Basic Metabolic Panel, along with liver enzymes and protein. I will preface this by saying that I am a health professional myself, and I am well aware that many don't know what these various. So, I'm with things being given to me in layman's terms... that is until I let it be known that I do understand and would like to be told values. So, after giving me the sugarcoated, vague explanation (which consisted of, "your dogs has one elevated results but as long as he's eating and drinking, he's fine."), I asked her which value, specifically was elevated. After telling me it was a "bilirubin of 2.4," she then inaccurate said, "Just keep giving him his Rumidol." I informed her my dog wasn't on rumidol, and she had to double check with the doc to ensure she was in error (she was). Well, as soon as the call ended, I began researching bilirubin levels in dogs, and realized the number meant nothing without the unit of measurement for it. So, I called back to ask.

This is when I was entreated very rudely and insulted. I asked, nicely, about the units of measurements, and she hurriedly said, "there's no on the results." I said that I know all blood tests have units, so if she could please find out by asking him. I usually see doctor Ashley, so I assumed he ran the test. Josie rudely said, "First of all, the doctor is a "she." Then she placed me on hold and asked the veterinarian about my request (allegedly). I'm going to assume that she didn't understand what "units" were, because she picked up the phone and said, "There are none, just a range." I said, "That can't be accurate, I'm looking at sample results on-line now, and they all have units." She said, "Well the Internet isn't always accurate, I would trust the doctor." I replied, "I'm very familiar with blood tests myself, and I know they have units, please ask again." Instead, she hung up on me.I would have been satisfied if she would have just said, "Hey, it may be better for you to come in and go over the results with the vet since you still have questions, and I can't seem to answer them for you." At least that would have been polite. This is my dog we're talking about, and I need to be well-informed in order to care for him.

I live five minutes away, so I drove to the clinic to get the results myself from the doctor, since they had someone incompetent speaking with me on the phone. I can't remember her name, but the vet was VERY sweet and easily told me, "mg/dL." She said, "Is that all you wanted to know?" With a confused look on her face. I said, "Yes, but your receptionist hung up on me." She apologized, but the receptionist never did, and then I overheard her gossiping about me with her coworkers in their med-room. How unprofessional is that?

When I go somewhere where I am paying money for a service, I expect to be treated with respect, just as I did and would entreat anyone else. That is my major complaint. The office is often busy, and at times you may have a bit of a long wait, but in general, they are very kind. Josie/Joey is the first really rude staff member I've ever encountered there.

I've been coming here for a very long time also and I've never had a bad experience. I am thankful they keep their prices low enough to allow me to continue to care for my dog .. It's too bad human clinics do not follow the same practice. It's surprising people are more accepting when medical mistakes happen in a human clinic but go out of their way to bash veterinarians when they aren't able to work miracles.

I have always had a great experience this location. I find it odd that most people will only write online reviews when they have something negative to complain about, and that experience is 1 out of 1000 good experiences. I have seen other customers come in to this clinic irate (typically because they want services rendered for free), and the staff always handles these situations professionally and try to be as helpful as they can be. You just cannot please some people ... I will continue to recommend this clinic based on great service and prices. What more can you ask for?

Stay away from this pet mortuary! I came to this place with my best friend and constant companion, Kenny Whitaker (my solid black 6 year old short haired Chihuahua) He was bleeding out of his rectum and very lethargic. They took blood test, they did a parvovirus test (wich wouldn't have made sense anyway because his shots were current), they took X-rays, charged me 250 dollars, and could not tell me what was wrong with my dog. I came home heartbroken, where my little buddy died later that day. My six year old little girl was devastated. We lost her mother in December of last year and without the mental tools to deal with such grief yet, the little black dog was very therapeutic in helping her deal with these overwhelming feelings of grief and loss. I am not a doctor, make no mistake about that, but I am also not stupid. After a very close and thorough examination of my dogs corpse, I believe he died as a result of an abscess in his left anal scent gland. How elementary of a problem can you get, yet left untreated...very fatal. If you are an animal lover like myself please..PLEASE take your animal to a reputable veterinarian instead of this....outfit. Thanks for reading.

It seems that the negative reviews are a little older and not only are the most recent reviews positive, but I have been going to Colerain for over a year now and have always had a wonderful experience. It appears they have been making adjustments to improve service & I, personally, can not be happier.

I have been taking my pets to Colerain Animal Clinic since 1998 but no more. It was 2 hours and 45 minutes to get a shot for my cat. There was one woman and her puppy ahead of me when I went in. I've spent thousands on various treatments for my kitties over the years and this place is real close to my house but I will now drive out of my way to never go there again. Dr. Charles Coleman was the vet there and I felt like I was talked down to. He wrote up that I "claimed" to have done something with the treatment of my pet. I have to give kudos to the girl who got me in the exam room, don't know her name but she was very nice and the girls behind the desk. I don't know how anyone could work in such a chaotic work environment. I don't mean chaotic as in the treatment of animals but in the unorganized atmosphere of the business. Anyone know of a good vet in the Colerain area?
