Catering??? – Restaurant Location is okay, but I've heard catering is a different story. Usually it's one or the other. Not sure where the owner finds time to do both. Way over their head in a time like now, maybe 20 years ago.
valentine's NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – Melting Pot, yes!!!!!!
Quick lunch if your budget is over $10 and you have a 1-2 hour break. What really bothered me was the customer service. Not up to par!!!! The place is very confusing as far as the menu and decor, especially in a strip mall. Reminds me of a chinese or asian restaraunt trying to mimic a meltin pot. Don't bother, go to a chines or asian restaraunt. Also, I personally worked with the owner back in the day over at the Marriot Hotel and he is very arrogant and would be a great guest on Hell's kitchen or kitchen nightmares with chef Ramsey or something.
Brown Dog not a cafe – Newly employed in Blue Ash, my husband was hoping for a local and unique establishment, and thought a strip-mall implied unpretentious. He ordered the veggie wrap hoping for healthy food, then called me while he waited and waited. The server was unfriendly, as the 20 something age group seems to be these days. The food was expensive, seemed good, but left a bad aftertaste. My husband thought the vegetables had been "bathed in butter."
WHY???? – Don't waste your time!! Service was rude! I'm not saying anymore. Food tasted like it was reheated...
Best Romantic location for Valentines Day – Brown Dog Cafe Nailed a perfect Valentines Day Dinner.
They had a special holiday menu that was very well put together. We did wait for a bit for our table but that's expected on a holiday. The staff went out of their way to be sure we where happy and enjoying ourselves.
The Fried Oyster Tarts were a wondeful way to start the meal.
My husband and I look forward to returning to the Brown Dog. We so glad we found a family run restaurant with a touch of romance and class.
Not up to the standards for the price in our opinion.
We went for valentine's day and we hope this was abnormal.
For ~$150/couple total we got.
40 minute wait on a reservation with nowhere to stand for half of that but in the way or a freezing foyer.
The host seemed brusque and not welcoming.
Crowded tempory tables with one of us pressed against a pole in the middle of the room and the neighbors way too close to our table.
Lackluster plating that did not match the pictures on their website. More like a much lower price chain in our opinion.
The food was tasty but not of superior quality and not sumptious.
The website said music on Saturday night which Valentine's was and was one reason we picked it. There was no room for a band and we were there late and there was no band.
We had not been told there was a special valentine's day menu when we made the reservation and the items we had picked out from online were not available.
This may have been an issue of them crowding in cheap tables for valentine's day and then not having the staff in the kitchen but it was worth at most 1/3 of the price in my opinion.
We will not go back.
Great Service and Food – I cannot believe the last reviewer thought the portions were so small. The portions are of nice size; howver, if you are really hungry and only order an entree, you may need an appetizer, salad, or dessert.
This restaurant is located in a strip mall, off the beaten path, shoved in-between a Subway and Sushi Restaurant, I would consider this a hidden gem (chef owned). The restaurant offers excellent service and food at a reasonable price. I always enjoy the meal whether it is the Brown Dog Filet or a Fish special. The staff seems to never change and they are friendly and appropriately attentive.
You wouldn't normally associate fine cuisine with strip malls, but location isn't everything. – In Short
This casual upscale restaurant, tucked into a shopping center just off I-71, has a warm, open look, with a cherry wood bar and yuppies at every turn. The menu changes seasonally, so some dishes come and go, but a few standards, such as the BFD (beef and fish dinner of seared scallops and beef tenderloin), seared ahi tuna, and the succulent five-spice duck breast, may be relied upon.
Poor value – Rarely have I gotten so little, for some so much and was so average. Although the presentation was very good, the food was ordinary. My wife usually can't finish her entree at most places, but she had no problem here. Be sure to get an appetizer, salad and ask for more bread.
Diggnn' the Dog – My wife and I are two travel weary foodies just relocating to Cincinnati and chose The Brown Dog for our first night out and were very impressed. As a Sous Chef myself transplanting from Nashville, Tennessee, this place was right on every mark. Five diamonds!
