Best country breakfast and lunch in Monterey County! – Absolutely the best country style cafe I have eaten at!! All of the food was fresh as well as great quality. Breakfasts range from great pancakes, killer french toast, meaty omellettes and breakfast burritos, huevos rancheroes to die for and about 6 different quality sausages to choose from. The bacon might be the best I've ever had, and the rest of the breakfast items are no slouches! For lunch, Toasties has a great selection of certified Angus Burgers, tostadas in beef or chicken, as well as a great selection of salads, homemade soups, and specials of the day. Service was very friendly and food was served as fast as you could expect. Every time I am in this area, I will definately frequent Toasties.
Great food& great service! – Country style breakfast and lunches that will WOW your tastebuds! Everything from the the potatoe dishes to the huge omelettes, awesome fluffy pancakes, cheese blintzes( the best Ive ever had), fluffy sweet killer french toast!! and homemade corned beef hash for breakfast to the certified Angus Burgers, Best Philly Cheesesteaks(made 4 ways), Albacore tuna, and ' Fresh Chicken Breast' sandwiches (6 different ways) make this cafe a MUST to explore. The service was friendly and fast, and the food was delivered even faster!! How can a specialty Cafe serve such wonderful food at such a lightning fast pace?? I wish there were more of these Cafes around that serve such quality food, at the reasonable prices that Toasties does. The prices for such wonderful food are what you would assume from a big city Cafe. I would love to have a great Cafe like this anywhere in my area to dine every day! Big parties are a challenge, especially for the holiday weekends. Parties of 2 to 4 don't seem to be a problem anytime though. Reservations are not accepted, though calling 20-30 min ahead of time will put your parties name on the list, limiting your waiting time. If you are in the area, you must visit this specialty cafe! The Food Made Me Sick – This weekend my girlfriend and I were able to slip away to Pacific Grove, we heard it was a nice place to visit. We were going to eat at the Red House but they were closed due to the owners going on vacation so we decided to go to Toasties.
The menu was disappointing and un-inventive (a lot like Denny's but without pictures) but we were in such a good mood that we didn't really care. I ate the crab-cake benedict that was on special and she had the french toast. The crab cakes were luke warm and the hollondaise sauce was like white glue with egg yolks. The crab cakes were served with potatoes in a puddle of grease and tasted like they were left over from last weekend. I was only able to eat one crab cake before I gave up and some guy who looked like a manager came over to my table and told me I should eat a couple more bites. ( Weird!). After that a waitress brought over someone elses change to our table. We sent it back, promptly paid and left.
I've had boring and bad tasting food before but the reason I am writing this review is because I was up most of the night sick . I'm sure I don't need to describe to you the symptoms but needless to say after I "got rid of" the crab cakes I started to recover.
As a courtesy I called Toasties to let them know about the food. ( I know that mistakes happen and I wanted to make sure that no one else got hurt.) The owner didn't believe me and tried to tell me that it could have been from anything ( the only food I ate the entire day was those nasty little crab cakes) . I told her that I wasn't trying to accuse her of anything but I just didn't want anybody else to get hurt- especially a child. She was extremely defensive and didn't listen. She spent the entire time trying to discount my concern.
I don't like to write negative reviews and I don't consider myself a "fussy" person, but when there is such a disregard for customer's health and well being I feel like people need to know. Stay away from Toasties.
Excellent breakfast! – Every time my husband and I are spending time in the local area, we always are sure to plan one morning for breakfast at Toasties. The menu has something for everyone to enjoy and the portion sizes are large. We especially love their omelets and breakfast potatoes. You are able to seat yourself as it is a very small, cozy restaurant. The staff is very attentive and make you feel like you are family. Price is exceptional. They love children and will even provide them with a toy or two if they begin to get fussy. Absolutely love this place!
Great stop for a casual breakfast – We went there twice during our vacation. I got the pancakes both times because they were really that good. The OJ was fresh squeezed (or at least tasted fresh squeezed). My husband had the Huevos Rancheros one morning and the french toast the other. Both were excellent. Filled us up for not too much money. Good location on the downtown strip.
