Do not go here – Food was bad and cost to much!!
Food not less then ok, cost way to much – Food ok but far from great. Ordered wine revived less then half a glass full. My father any grandmother from Germany and they both didn't enjoy the food or the price.
Mediocre, yet overpriced – I recently dined at Old Germany Restaurant with a friend. I am half German, half Austrian and spent my first 30 or so years in these two countries so I kind of know what I'm talking about. My expectations were on the higher side based on earlier reviews.
In a nutshell, Old Germany is one of the poorer choices for German fare that I have found in the U.S:
Ambiance: 3.5 stars. Lots of German-American kitsch and paraphernalia inside, yet acceptable for a place in the US. that wants to serve the German cliche. On the upside, tablecloth and napkins were real fabric.
Service: 4 stars. The waiter was attentive, yet not going overboard in the attention we were afforded. The bread basket with German style whole grain breads and butter was nice. However, there was no freshly baked bread served, like a brezel or semmel.
Beverage: 1 star. My Spaten Oktoberfest beer (0.5 liters) was served in a Weizen beer glass. This is an absolute sacrilege and would disqualify the place in Germany right away. The beer accordingly was stale.
Food: 2 stars. My Wiener Schnitzel was appropriately thin cut and tender. However, the bread crumb crust was way too thick and too dark (the color should be bright golden, mine was almost ebony). There was no lemon slice served with it which is a must. The side red cabbage was overcooked. The Spaetzle (German egg noodles) served as a side were apparently not home-made. The side salad was crisp, but the house vinaigrette dressing watery.
Normally, a highlight of German/Austrian food are the desserts based on fresh fruits, ice cream, a light mousse and fresh pastry. For dessert, Old Germany is a total disappointment with the usual selection of prefabricated dessert cakes rotating behind a glass window.
In summary, it was not worth the money. For rural Oklahoma, their business model may be working. Just do not get fooled into believing that their restaurant and the attention they put into preparing their food reflect the better of German cuisine.
Yummy Yummy – Will admit the prices are high but other than that delicious. The manager will come to your table as she does to all the tables to check on her customers, I thought that was great. The atmosphere was very German like. If you are around the first week in September this restaurant hosts an Oktoberfest that is out of this world. It is a blast. The beer is real German beer.
Old Germany?Very disappointing – I?ve was very excited to try this restaurant , went on a Friday with a couple of people with no reservations, the wait was about 15-20 mins not bad considering the place was packed.
The service was good, the atmosphere was cozy and rustic. The menu looked fabulous and it was hard to make a choice so everyone had something different so we could sample a larger variety.
The bread was stale and dry. The salad was different, tasty, but the canned green beans were ?funky?, totally contradicts the freshness of the other ingredients of the salad. When the entrees came out I was taken aback. The spuds were decent, again with the canned veggies! And the meat? all I can say is ?where?s the beef??
Think about it. This restaurant is in the heart of cattle country, but they skimped on the meat, and for the price we were paying for the meal the meat shouldn?t have been able to fit on the plate. The Germans are robust people with hearty appetites, WE FELT SO TAKEN!!!.
Don?t get me wrong, the meat was cooked to perfection; however I would like to have more than three(3) bites of protein with my meal!
Bottom line: 1 beer, 3 sodas, 4 entrees over $120.00 OUCH!!! That?s what I spend on groceries for the week for a family of 4. It was an experience, but I won?t be returning again. The next time I?m in the mood for German cuisine, I?ll get the recipes from the epicurious website and do it myself, it?s not THAT hard.
*** TO THE OWNERS OF OLD GERMANY***
Die Nahrung war gut, aber der Teil, zum fur Preis Verhaltnisses festzusetzen ist, also skandalos, wei?t du, dass du nicht Recht hast!
