25700 SW Petes Mountain Rd, West Linn, OR | Directions 9706845.335007 -122.676774
Neighborhoods: Far West
Layout: 18 holes; par 72; 7,052 yards
Rating: 74.4 from the back
Designer: Peter Jacobsen and Ken Kavanaugh
Toughest hole: The par-4, 460-yard sixth can play up to 500 yards into winter headwinds. It doglegs gently to the right, with a slightly uphill approach. Length is the problem. Isn't it always?
Easiest Hole: Number 17 is a par-3. It's still 205 yards with a ravine on the left. The green is shaped away from approach shots, and is as skinny as it is long. Number 12 is the signature hole, another par-3 with no safe place to land but the green itself. The steep hillsides feature an array of roses.
Overview: Just in case you didn't read the numbers above, this course is long and tough. The first few holes have a links-style feel and (often) a wind to match the layout. The course eventually settles into a more traditional Northwest track, offering the hard-to-keep-up bent grass (even on the driving range, which is one of the best in the area). Greens are spectacular. Ravines are deep. Trees are tall. Creeks, ponds, and marshes are full of balls. The clubhouse is imposing, but there is still room for new members. -- Eric Ottem, CitySearch.com Contributor
