I have used the Queen of Diamonds for over 10 years. This is a small privately owned store, the guy has to collaborate with other people in some cases I guess to offer services. But I have had several watch batteries replaced and had no problems. I have had jewelry repaired and it was done very well because I was very clear about what I wanted. I love this store, want to support it and love all the quirkiness of it. But then again, I am a world traveler and some of the most famous shops in Paris, London, Indonesia, Florence, Amsterdam, et al have quirky eccentric owners. This is character. The unfortunate stories of some are perplexing to me because this has not been my experience and I am truly sorry for what happened in their cases. My experience has always been good, but I don't expect more from him that I would a corporately owned store, where believe me things can very wrong too.
Couldn't possible provide worse service. I am so distraught, and upset over how awful this shop is.
I took my vintage swiss army watch in to be repaired in early July. I was quoted a 60$ repair price and couldn't really justify spending that amount at the time so I asked for the watch back. Queen of Diamonds does not have an 'in-house' watch repair so it was not available on hand. I was told that, as soon as the watchmaker he employed could return it to the shop, i could get it back.
I had to leave the Portland metro area to return to Southern Oregon for a while, and asked my mother, who lives in Portland to pick up the watch for me in my absence.
When the watch was finally returned to me, It had been repaired without my consent. Let me rephrase it, it had been 'repaired' without my consent. To compensate for that, I was only charged 35$ for the repair.
However, the watch still did not keep proper time. I took the watch back into the shop, asked for a refund for the repair as it did not work, even after it was 'fixed' without my consent. The owner (who is a ridiculously strotype of himself) blew up in a burst of anger at me. Yelling and screaming he took the watch back from me, told me he would 'fix it' again for me.
While I would have preferred to have him not try to fix it again, this was not an option given to me. I was told that because his watch maker fixed it (and again without my consent) that he could no give me a refund, and anger anger anger. I left him with an my new Seattle adresses to ship it to after it was repaired...
....and lone behold after the watch was repaired a second time it still does not keep proper time. No refund, and no working watch.
Do not patron The Queen of Diamonds. This is the worst i've ever been treated as a customer.
Queen of mean! – I was sent to this store by my employer who asked me to please pick up her watch that she took in for an estimate.
When she took it in for the estimate she was not given a quote, although she asked. She was told he would need to call someone and then let her know the cost. She agreed but thought it was a little odd, but like the previous reviewer lives up the street and likes to support local business. After 4 days she had not received a call so she stopped by and was told he did not have an estimate, it was sent out to be looked at and he does not do the repairs himself. She left but overnight thought about it and decided to send me to pick it up. So I go down, explain that she would just like the watch back and he can call her w/the estimate. He flat out refuses to not only let us know when the watch will be back in the store but where it is and who he sent it to. I ask him when he can "estimate" it might return but he refuses again, saying "that if he is wrong I will come back twice as angry" all the while wagging his finger inches from my face. We go back and forth for a minute trying (me) to come to some sort of resolution. So I go back to my employer to explain the situation and as I am the sales woman from the store calls to yet again tell her that the watch is not available. Then Ron (owner and mean guy) gets on the phone to tell her that she will get her watch back, but only on "his terms". His terms now are next thurs., a full 7 days in the future and promptly hung up on her! The next day she goes down to the store and inquires yet again as to the where-a-bouts of the watch. Ron still refusing to divulge any info as to when the watch will be back in the store or where it is , refusing to even let her pick it up. He finally told her that she could pick it up at noon on monday. (this was sat) So.. I go in at noon on monday and am instantly told that the watch is not there and he only told her that it would be ready at noon on monday to get her out of the store and not make a scene. While he "appreciated" my situation he still would not give me any further info. Now it is monday afternoon, my boss is leaving town wendsday monrning and still no watch. I will update with the final resolution if it is ever returned or resolved.

RUDE MEAN OLD MAN – So I had stopped by this shop (which is right down the street from my house) 3 or 4 times to get my engagement ring sized. They were closed each time. I made sure to get in early today. Waited 10 min or so to see the owner/only worker there. He gave me a $28 dollar quote, which I was pleased with, sized my finger and proceeded to the check out counter. I asked about how long it would take to size, he said up to 10 days. I very nicely declined, apologized for wasting his time, and said that I would take it downtown to a place I know that can have it back much faster. He threw his hands up in the air, slammed his register closed, and started trying to argue with me about how he said it "could" take up to 10 days. He was mad at me for changing my mind! I apologized again and and said I didn't understand why he was upset with me. He said "NO, YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND!".
What I do understand is that this guy has anger management problems/ bad customer service skills. Don't go here EVER. He might make you cry...
Good Work, prices seem to be normal. – I had 2 repair jobs done by this jeweler with no problems and it was quality work.
I had my wife's engagement ring repaired. It had a bent post so the diamond was loose. He did it on the spot, cost I think $48.
I then had my ring resized, I took it to him and was quoted a price of $48. Then a couple months later I went back to get the work done and the final price was like $65. I noticed the price difference but I was satisfied with the quality of the work plus, helping out a local owned shop, that the $17 bucks wasn't that big of a deal.
The experience I have gotten at this store is totally opposite what the other review reflected. The owner seems to be this layed back older hippie who has seemed to found jesus as he always tells me "god bless you" which hey, cool with me. So it sounds like the customer of the previous review might of been a bit over amped? In any case I thought I would post up my experiences as this shop isn't as bad as the previous review reflected.
Poor service, poor quality – If you need a watch battery changed this is a fine place to go. However, I needed a simple repair job (addition of jump rings) on a sterling bracelet made with extremely rare glass and was treated very poorly. When I was not satisfied with the shoddy work and rings used the owner was clearly angry with me; he then chided me in front of other customers. When I asked him to simply remove the rings so I could take the bracelet, he put new ones in which was not what I asked for. He then got angry with me for not being happy. He did not do what I asked! I was charged $12 and he wouldn't give me a refund. I had to take my bracelet to another store to get what I needed. The bead store down the street ended up putting in better quality rings, with superior skill and craftsmanship, at half the price! This guy may be able to change a watch battery, but he has a bad attitude, low quality products, and takes your money without doing what you politely asked to have done! Don't shop here unless you want to be treated like your requests don't matter!
