Showed up on a monday with twenty friends to celebrate an early morning wedding. Staff was VERY accomdating and considerate. We had breakfast with seperate checks . I'm sure advance notice would be appreciated but they made it work out anyway. The food was good, prices great, and service awesome ! . Thanks Becky and staff - you made our day!
#2 on my Club Sandwich Quest. – This is a classic American family diner complete with chrome and leather counter stools. Just like a million others I grew up with in the Midwest. The food is as good as any place I remember. Great burgers, soups, sandwiches, and tasty deserts. I like to try the club sandwich when I go to a place like this, and if I like it, I'll try something else next time.
I liked their club so much I had it three times before I ever ordered anything else. I still like one sandwich more, but I can't stay away from Toms.
Amazing Food, Cute Little Diner :) – Seriously Amazing food! I was shopping around Hawthorn area and started driving around for a quiet place to eat. Right on the corner of Division and 39th? I found Tom's Resturant. The ladies that work there are very friendly, the prices are affordable, and like i said, the food is really incrediable. I've been there a few times just by myself to eat, and its always been quite enough to read/write/or study. However lunch time is extreamly busy.
One Really Bad Experience - worst service ever – On Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 my boyfriend and I had the absolutely WORST SERVICE EVER from Tom's. To be fair we've had relatively good service there for breakfast and lunch. This was the first time we went there for dinner.
We walked in the bar-section of Tom's. There were maybe five tables and one person sitting at the bar and a girl standing at the bar wait stand. All the people at the tables had empty glasses. There was no one in sight. We sat down and waited. After about 10 minutes a blonde girl came from the back and talked to the girl standing at the bar. They got out their purses and exchanged makeup. My boyfriend said, "I bet that's the bartender." I said, "it couldn't be because she would wait on either us or the other people waiting." She lit a cigarette and walked behind the bar (cigarette in mouth) and put some glasses away. Then she went back talking to her friend.
She looked at me and I cocked my head quizzically, like "are you the bartender?" She sneered at me, took a drag off her cigarette and kept on talking to her friend.
I asked the people around us, "is that blonde girl up there the bartender?" They all said "yes."
We left then, after about 20 minutes of sitting there, waiting.
To be fair, usually the service is ok. And Tom and (I forgot the other guy's name) usually seem to care about their restaurant. I cannot imagine that they'd hire someone as apathetic as that girl. But, we wasted our time that night and have not been back.
Very good – My first time to Tom's I had a taco omelette- very good.
Menu has ample choices and reasonable prices. Lot of booths and tables with window seats having the best light. They had a respectable crowd in there at noon on a saturday.
I'll be back.
Best family restaurant in town... – My family and I have been going to Tom's for just over two years now and it never ceases to amaze me. The excellent food, service, and welcoming environment will keep my family coming back, time after time. I highly recommend the breakfast menu -- Try an omelette or the homemade biscuts and gravey! The select Greek dishes are wonderful, too. Hands down the best Gyros around!
Genuine, delightful, traditional -- Tom's is the real ticket!
Just like mom used to do... – Get there before 11am and you'll catch the best breakfast specials for under 4 dollars! A couple pankcakes, an egg and even some sausage. Breakfast is served all day and you'll get to even converse with the long time waitresses who might act like they're part of your very own family. Its turned me on to come multiple times a week.
