Good Food, great prices, friendly staff – I have been coming here for ten and then some. The food is always good, and the prices are reasonable. Very friendly wait staff.

Cheap, tasty lunch! – One of my friends introduced me to this little dive today. We went around 1pm and we were able to choose from the "lunch menu". We were seated promptly, given water immediately and we were offered tea right away. The waitress answered my questions with ease and we ordered a HUGE meal for only $4.75 each! I ordered sweet and sour chicken, and with it came the tea, a cup of egg drop soup, fried rice, little fried flaky things (they were yummy too) and an awesome egg roll. The soup had great flavor (sometimes that soup is just so bland) and the egg roll had an amazingly yummy texture and flavor. I prefer the rustic-style restaurants and this one was just that. If you want cheap-eats, this is a great place to go for lunch! I haven't tried the dinner menu.

Worse than Mars Meadows – I was looking for a Chinese restaurant in North Portland other than Mars Meadows (which, while mediocre, has not ever been bad).

So I decided to try Ying-Ying because the reviews here suggested more than I ultimately got.

Although its address is N. Lombard, it is actually a bit off of Lombard. Pulling into the cracked, glass-strewn parking lot, I reserved judgment.

Entering the restaurant, I noticed the furnishings were cracked and worn. That didn't raise my fears because I was having a to-go order.

Barbeque pork and sesame beef. How could I go wrong with those standards.

The kitchen performed consistent with the decor. The pork was dry. The sesame beef was fatty with a brown sauce which, in the 10 minutes it took me to drive home had begun to separate.

North Portland has a lot of excellent restaurants. It is still waiting for at least a good Chinese restaurant.

Friendly – We love eating here. It is our favorite family place to go. The service is friendly and we never have to wait long for our food. They are well prepared for young children and they are flexible with their menu. I love their Egg Foo Young and they have the best Egg Rolls in town. It has a relaxed atmosphere and we always feel welcome.

would not recommend it – Americanized "chinese" food, if you want authentic food this is not the place to go. I didn't find it to contain high quality ingredients. Had to send back one of my dishes, and was not offered a substitution. Would not go back.

Long trek to good Chinese food – This is another great authentic Chinese place that does it right. The crab puffs and egg foo young in particular are very good, and all of my tablemate's steaming plates around me looked great as well. I love Chinese places like this, and am one of the Great Ones that are Unaffected By MSG. Ha ha.

Just wish there were more of these type of restaurants closer to Sellwood area of Portland.
