Fantastic spot for Happy Hour. Their large bar area has one one of my favorite happy hours in town. $7 Sizzle, Swizzle & Swirl. Tasty Manhattans, steak skewers cooked to order, medium rare please. Spicy Ahi Tuna, yum. Lobster bites with a tangy sauce and a steak sandwich that is huge by happy hour standards! Another bonus, the happy hour goes till 7!
Excellent service! – First of all, let me say I dine out all the time. Came here as a party of six, the service was excellent from beginning to end. The salads were great, app's nice, dessert awesome. The cheesecake was the best I have ever had, server's suggestion. The only problem I had was my fish was undercooked. I have salmon all the time, I know it should'nt be overcooked. But red all theway thru is not good for $44.00. I don't eat meat, so maybe that is the problem, El Gaucho did the same thing with the salmon. Anyway, all in all everyone loved their steaks. I will order vegetarian next time. Also, why don't people in Portland dress up? I felt like I was dining at a family buffet restaurant.
Good service, otherwise very overrated – I felt compelled to review this place (it's my first posting) after hearing about Ruth's Chris and how fabulous it was. I'm very sorry to say I feel this restaurant is overrated and much too expensive for what you get. I'd like to compliment our waitperson, Jillian, who was very knowledgable and friendly and provided exceptional service. Everything else about the experience, however, was lackluster. The Ceasar salad was tasteless and dreary. Luckily, I didn't have much time to eat it before our steaks were brought out (major faux pas for a supposedly high-end restaurant) Our steaks were unspectacular and poorly seasoned. I have the feeling I could get the same thing at Outback for FAR less money. The sides were bland and forgettable. Perhaps the chef has a salt phobia???? The wine list is vast and lovely but obscenely overpriced. Just try and find a bottle of wine for less than $100!!!! Dessert (I had the cheesecake) was obviously a commerically prepared variety - very dissapointing. My date's cappaccino tasted horrible (how the heck do you mess up a cappaccino????). Perhaps it was just an off night - I really don't understand it at all, given the stellar reputation Ruth's Chris has and all the good reviews I've read about the place. But when I pay $200 for dinner (for 2 people), I expect far more than I received. Unfortunately, I can't say I'd recommend this restaurant, nor will I ever return.
NOTHING BETTER! – BIG STEAKS! BEST FLAVOR AND ATMOSPHERE. 4TH TIME, LOOKING FORWARD TO MY 5TH AND MY PORTERHOUSE! AND TO ALL THOSE COMPLAINERS, MAYBE YOU HAD A BAD TIME OR BAD SERVICE BECAUSE, NO ONE CAN PLEASE YOU! THANK YOU ALL AGAIN AND AGAIN!
Over Rated and Over Priced, PERIOD!!!!! – I personally wouldn't eat at a 'Ruth Chris' steak house again. Over rated and over priced. The steaks we ordered were dry and not tender at all. It's ridiculous that you pay 25$ smackers for a steak and then you have to purchase a baked potato, salad, and the trimmings. Sorry, doesn't work for me. If you want a great steak at a great price with all of the trimmings check out 'Wolff Lodge Inn in CDA, IDAHO. These folks know how to cook a great steak at a great price without the frills.
BILLING ERRORS, BAIT AND SWITCH: BUYERS BEWARE!!! – Office party of 17 dined here last night for the 3rd year in a row. We ordered the $47 Argyle Sparkling wine (2 bottles), but were told they were out. As a substitute, they brought 2 bottles of Perrier Jouet ($41 from the wine list). BUT, WE WERE CHARGED $49 FOR EACH BOTTLE! Did they think we wouldn't notice??? We were also charged a $105 corkage fee for 7 bottles of wine we brought, despite being promised no corkage fee (fee was waived the past 2 years we had our party here). Did they think we wouldn't notice??? We were charged ONE EXTRA ENTREE as well! Did they think we wouldn't notice??? Because of the size of the party, they added a $20 gratuity. No problem, except it was computed AFTER the booze, corkage, and valet parking charges were added. Did they think we wouldn't notice??? Well, we did notice. Apparently, Ruth's Chris Portland does not want our repeat business. Their wish is our command.
Great stuffed chicken. – I know it sounds funny I am writing about the great chicken for a steak place but I don't like steak. I took my mom here for Mother's Day and I had chicken since I don't like steak and thier stuffed chicken is so good I go back just for that.
Ruth Chris gets it right – Even though this is a national chain restaurant, which tends to bring down the quality in a lot of places, Ruth Chris has not fallen prey to this. The steaks are always cooked to perfection, with cuts so tender you can almost cut them with a fork. The portions of the sides are enough to accomodate 3-4 people easily and the wine list is extensive. The waitstaff is very knowledgable and always treats us great. We love this place and it's always our restaurant of choice for special occasions or treating friends and family. You never leave hungry or unsastified at Ruth Chris!
Always a great meal – My husband and I go to this restaurant at least 4-5 times a month and have never had a bad meal however, if we did, the manager Mark would promptly take care of it. This is a restaurant that "get's it". We are always promptly greeted with a hello Mr. & Mrs. _____ and always seated fast. Often you hear that it is expensive but we ALWAYS share a steak because they are so big and we share a few sides. Along with a great bottle of wine, dinner is very reasonable. We eat out often at other places and very rarely get treated like appreciated "regulars". Thanks bartenders, wait staff and management for the great service, food and fun.
Overpriced, Bad Food, Horrid Service – I was on a business trip September 2005 for one night. I read the reviews on this page and thought "Sure, why not?". Big mistake. A colleague and I waited 45 minutes EVEN THOUGH WE HAD A RESERVATION, our steaks came out still alive and needed to be returned, and the price was RIDICULOUS! Who ever heard of $35 just for a piece of meat, WITH NO SIDE? I would not recommend this place to ANYONE. You are better off going to either Sizzler or some other line-item type place.
mediocre – I would not recommend it to a friend. I was not satisfied with the service.
