A Portland institution, VQ is consistently great. Lunch, dinner, HH & brunch, all winners! Reservations are a good idea but not necessary. Patio season adds another very like-able quality to this spot.

Equally fetching in rain (booth-lined brick-walled bar) or shine (petunia-draped patio), this downtown favorite is perfect for a pre-theater dinner or post-theater cocktail. They also serve a picturesque brunch, particularly if you sit in the atrium.

DELICIOUS! Great place! We loved it. Now we know why there is no "walk-in" seating on the weekend evenings. We made a reservation to see what the hype was, and now we know. It's the Chocolate Souffle, oh my, that is FABULOUS!

Best Brunch Ever! – Easily the best place for brunch. I was lucky enough to get in here with a friend and everything we had was out of this world. Their take on food is intelligent and creative. If you can get here you totally should.

Absolutely Superb!!! – OF the higher end restaurants I've been to in PDX, this is my new favorite. My wife and I shared the bacon wrapped prawns, fried figs, rabbit pate (YUM), wild mushroom salad and the duck confit. Each plate was fabulous...So good, I was literally giddy throughout the entire meal. I couldn't even say which was my favorite as they were all splendid. The chocolate souffle which required pre-order was also fabulous. I had the beet infused vodka bloody mary and was probably the best BM I've ever had. The ambience was nice but to be honest I barely noticed it as the food had all my attention. Our server was excellent as well. With all the choices in PDX to eat at VQ will make it easier for us to decide in the future. We'll return again and again. Highly, highly recommend.

So Cool – Drinks last night after work were incredible, and the bartenders know their drinks. It's amazing. Crowded, naturally - but this place has survived in a town that most bars/restaurants don't last 5 years. I've known this place since the 80's and it's always been good. I just wish it was a little bigger.

Always happy and friendly, this place is almost (if not already) legendary in Portland.

It's still a Landmark – **This review was originally posted on another site (y.e.l.p.), but it was removed, along with all my other reviews as that site is practicing very unethical business.

Thanks to citysearch, which is truly unbiased... I am able to post my review here:

A Portland Destination for nearly 40 years.

I've been a regular at VQ for almost as long as they've been open, mind you...many of those years in diapers!

Now, all grown up and able to dine sans diapers:

Their brunch is amazing, and eating outside during summer is a real treat. Can't beat champagne on the patio at 10am!

I recently started spending more time at their Happy Hour, which offers gourmet delights at reasonable prices. One of my favorite HH meals is the rabbit pate. It's luscious! The duck spring rolls are a culinary delight, as is the pizza and bacon wrapped dates. Not your typical HH food.

They do a great osso bucco at dinner and anything they do with truffles is delish! Saffron Halibut is one of the best halibut dishes in town.

If you ever get a chance to try their 6 course tasting menu, it's worth the cash! It's a lot of food, but each course is artfully presented and tastes better than the last!

Service varies from amazing to spotty. It's always been that way as long as I can recall. I've had such great service with the family , we've wanted to return and request the same server. Other times, we plan on taking a long break because the service was just aloof.

Expensive but okay – This place was good the first time I went there. The bartender was awesome. The waitress was really nice and sweet. She was very knowledgeable and made the girls and I feel special when we were ordering.

The second time I came here *(A WEEK LATER) with my boyfriend... A grouchy waitress took our drink order, gave the order to the bartender (*we were only a couple of feet away from the bar) sitting at a table. The beer was poured from the tap and my drink was made and was sitting on the bar for EVER. I could have gotten up to get it myself... I should have. The waitress was pushing us to order food which was annoying. We came here for DRINKS.

We had to ask her to refill our water for us, which was annoying. Also, which I find pretty disgusting is that on the bar they have toppings for the drinks (cherries.. blah blah blah) and the waitresses that night WERE EATING THEM in front of us and they were sucking on their fingers.

They never washed their hands before handling our drinks and such. I was highly disgusted.

HORRIBLE. Won't go there again. Save your time and your money. Go to Hubers.

Always flawless – With a quickly changing seasonal menu, there's always exciting things to try! I have been to the VQ several times and I was shocked to see some of the bad reviews on this site... I have never encountered a rude or snobby server and my food as always been impeccable. I am usually one of the youngest people here but I feel that I am treated the same as everyone else, unlike some places where the staff assumes a young person knows nothing about food, wine, etc.

I have had the strip steak, the duck, the lamb, the osso bucco... everything was amazing. I highly recommend the bacon wrapped dates... They turn these staples into something you need to experience to belive!

I can almost gaurentee you'll find a wine pairing at your price point on their well rounded list.
