you get what you pay for here. – This is one of those places you get what you pay for. Order anything other than the "Chef's Specialties" (which are in the $11-$13 range) and you might be disappointed.

The General Tso's is an exquisite break from the normal, batter-coated versions. These mouthwatering chunks of (non-breaded) chicken thigh meat are served with crisp-tender broccoli spears.

The other show-stopper is the sesame shrimp. These shrimps are somehow are crispy at the bite, but soften into a creamy inside. They are also not batter fried. They come seasoned with a light clear honey flavored sauce, sesame seeds, and hot bird chiles.

Steer clear of greasy potstickers, unappetizing appetizer sampler, and most other dishes that are cheaper on the menu.

But go for the sesame shrimp and general tso's chicken and see if it isn't the best you've ever had.

Ms. Christine – Nostalgic emanations. Every other table seemed to be waxing nostalgic with statements like "I've been coming here for 15 years", etc. Perhaps their age has affected their tastebuds. With the exception of the hot & sour soup I've never tasted such bland chinese food. The cashew chicken was inedible, the chicken gristly and unappealing. The chow mein couldn't be revived under any circumstance. Quite a disappointment after following the CitySearch recommendations of their "regulars".

Life saver – I was in a pinch and needed to feed 80 people. These guys were ready and produced the food in a half hour at $4 per head. Thank you!

tasty! – The food is excellent, and an excellent value: there are $13 dishes here that taste as good as anything you can find in Portland. Be sure to order from the "Hunan Specialities" list for the best experience.

Human has the ambience you would expect from a nice Chinese restaurant. It's definitely not a spectacular place for a date, but good for kids and large groups.

Oishii Chuka Ryori! – Despite the fact that all the staff I spoke to were all from Taiwan, this little gem of a botique chinese restaurant prepared notably authentic Hunan dishes. Flavorful meats and tongue tickling spices, hot to your liking, sets this joint apart from the rest.

A gem and a MUST visit! – Are you tired of a lot of the pretensious and overpriced Chinese places that exist on the North side? Cross Burnside, my friends, and find out what so many downtown lunch goers already knew: Hunan is Excellent! Take a trip through the funky Morgan's Alley and up the stares, but do take a moment as the gracious server guides you to your table to check out the aquarium of tropical fish. Very subdued service belies their attentiveness. Wonderful hot green tea reaches your table (complimentary, of course). Oh, and that food. Some of the best seafood chinese in this city. The chicken is supreme, and picking any one (or any ten, for that matter) favorite dish would be futile (though chicken with asparagus is a personal favorite). Trust me on this one, you will not regret it!

Chinese Old School Style – I've been to Hunan many times and have taken relatives and friends from out of town and have always had a good meal and good overall experience. All dishes have been exceptionally tasty. We are talking hot and spicy with plenty of flavor. The dishes are basic old school Chinese. Nothing trendy, but solid execution. I recommend the sesame chicken chef's specialty as well as the sauteed green beans. The service is prompt and efficient and they know what they are doing. Rarely crowded but usually busy. One of my favorite restaurants in Portland.

superb! – Best General Tso's in Portland. Try the dry sauteed green beans as well.

Hot Soup & Potstickers – After spending 8 months in China, I have not found any Chinese restaurants that could compre. I personally prefer Chinese-Style to American-Chinese Style of cooking. However, the Hot and Sour Soup and the Potstickers are some of the best!
