A great shop to pop into and see what might tickle your fancy. Racks over flowing, but not in that annoying hard to look through way, with good quality vintage wears. Friendly staff and comfortable dressing room.

Tucked down a quiet downtown side street, this enchanting boutique is teeming with mens’ & womens’ vintage clothing, jewelry, and accessories.

Lovely – I got the most incredible pair of sunglasses from here. I simply adore them. The shop is fantastic and it is so refreshing that the people that work there are not all in your face. They have the perfect balance of letting you do your own thing, but helping you when you need it. There is nothing fake about them. I think Prada purse needs to stick to Nordstrom. She doesn't deserve the greatness that is Magpie.

A Customer's Response to "Deplorable" – I feel very bad for the women who work there. I agree with the girl who said providing her description is a defamation of character (great wording there by the way). The women who wrote that review is clearly a spoiled women who probably hasn't worked in retail or customer service. I also think she exaggerated about the way she was treated in the store.

When I went to Magpie I had a wonderful experience! The man who was helping me was great and incredibly helpful. I had a blast shopping and I found some great deals including a vintage Christian Dior white dress shirt with the original tags for a little over $20 for my boyfriend. I am in love with this store. If you skip over it you'll seriously be missing out.

Don't Bother – I work not far from this little shop and the window's always look tempting with great vintage items in them. However I have been in there twice and twice I have had a bad experience, besides they're a bit over-priced. My first experience several weeks ago I was interested in Jewelry in the display case. I must have stood there and peered in for about 5+ minutes before someone decided maybe they should talk to me, (2 ladies where too busy talking to help me, the customer). When I inquired about the item I wanted to see the individual that helped me was not very cordial or friendly. I just chalked it up to a bad day, we all have them and I know when you work with the public it can be trying at times. I let that slide.

Most recently I was walking by and was very interested in what was in the window. Now if you DON?T want to sale something in your shop - then don't put it in the window with other like items all with price tags. I was looking at one of the items because I wanted to give it a closer look before deciding to purchase it. I was promptly informed that the stuff in the window is not for sale and not to be touched....REALLY then why does it have a price tag and why was it hanging in the window?

Needless to say I will never be back and I?m going to blab, blab, blab to all my girlfriends and sites such as this.

Rude – I just discovered this city search thing so I think I'm going a little crazy posting. It's so nice to be able to state what I feel about businesses. I can't tell you how many downtown places are just plain rude and this place was no exception. I stumbled across this store on my way to Johny Sole. What a mistake. I barely had time to look at anything before the front desk girl asked me to take my bags. I told her that all I had was my purse and my dog carrier with my dog in it and if I gave it to her my dog would freak out. She just walked away all mad. Now feeling uncomfortable from her response I left. Went to Johny Sole's place and found the cutest pair of summer shoes and a one of a kind summer dress. They never gave me any flack about my dog carrier, very helpful with the selection as well. Guess I can post something cool about them next!

I love Magpie! – Magpie is the one vintage/thrift store I can count on for a consistently amazing selection of clothing. They are inexpensive but the selection is amazing... you do not have to leaf through many items to find a gem...

I much prefer Magpie to other "similar" stores in Portland (like Buffalo or Red Light) simply because there, good items are hard to come by and it's really luck when I am able to find something I love. At Magpie, I *know* I'll find cool things - and ACTUAL vintage merchandise (old old) as opposed to ugly early 90's wear.

Staff has always been very kind, personable, and helpful - no snobbery. yay magpie.

Response to Deplorable – I am the 'Greek' girl listed under the 'Deplorable' review. I am not Greek, but thanks for the assumption. I'd love to respond to the comments made. I think most people are able to read the store's hours, as they are clearly and legibly written on the sign on the door for all to see. Everyone else seems to be able to figure it out, so why can't you?

Secondly, working in such a lovely store allows me to know full well what we have in stock and what we do not. If we have an item comparable to something someone wants, I will know of it's existence and be sure to point it out, as sales increase this way. So your blatant allusion to me or my co-worker's denying you something we do indeed have is not well thought out and does not make any sense..

Thirdly, we ask every customer of every variety to check bags in upon arrival in the store. Most people comply with no attitude, it is the people who unnecessarily balk, protest, or act strangely about it that we immediately suspect, as it is a pretty routine thing done in boutiques in the area. You were not singled out in being asked, nor were you asked to leave. This was a a gross exaggeration, and thinking otherwise is vain and narcissitic.

Also note that every other review is glowing.

Your personal view on your experience does not give you permission to write a review with detailed descriptions of an employee's physical characteristics mentioned. To do so is blatant defamation of character.

Awesome! – I absolutely love Magpie! I have gotten my prom dresses there the past three years and always find them to be beautiful and really resonably priced. The employeees are GREAT! They help me pick out whatever I need and always offer their honest opinion. I love everything about this store and would highly suggest everyone go there. Just a lovely, fun store with a really great atmosphere. Keep it up Magpie!

Deplorable – I attempted to stop by several times in a course of a month, they were always closed. The store window displays had changed several times so I knew they had to be eventually open for business or why would they bother? One day around 1:45 they were open and someone was there! I was elated! I slowly walked up the stairs absorbing the intricate vintage placement all around me. I was grinning from ear to ear, I also had about 2,000 cash ready to drop on many different things that I needed to obtain for upcoming events. A Halloween costume, Christmas and New Years eve dinner dresses and jackets was my hope. A young 19-20ish caucasian/greek? girl with black hair and another young (beautiful) african american girl (I USE THIS DESCRIPTION SO THE OWNER CAN FIGURE OUT WHOM I'M SPEAKING OF) barely looked over at me. Too involved in their magazines. I was running my fingers through a white, luxurious, faux fur, 70's, long sleeve, short jacket and turned towards them and said "excuse me". Very nicely a might add. Do you have a furry jacket like this but longer? The darker girl just looked at me almost frowning and said "No". Funny thing is, out of the corner of my eye I could see something long and white and furry and as I was about to cross the room to investigate the light skinned girl said to me. "I need to take your bag".

"My purse?" I tried to ask. "What ever" she replied. I told her that was an impossibility because I had cash in it and wouldn't want her to be responsible if it walked away. Then guess what she said? "Then you can't shop here." My mouth dropped. I walked up to the counter and almost handed her my purse and I stopped took a look around the store, saw that indeed the long white fussy thing in the corner was a coat and walked out. Now keep in mind I am 5'10' 130lb size 3 with a platinum a-line. I can't remember what I was wearing that day but I'm sure it was smart. My "bag"? 6" long and 10" length and 2" wide PRADA. I was so insulted I felt sick.

Oh la la – I really dig this cute little shop, it's been around for awhile for a good reason. The cloths are always clean and well kept. My only complaint is that some of the boutique type fasions that people bring in for sale can be a bit overpriced, but the vintage clothing selection is usually well priced.

The Brady kids and the Partridge Family would fight over this vintage boutique's groovy duds. – In Short
You'll find lots of disco wear--leather and polyester pants, tube tops and tight T-shirts--at down-to-earth prices. Active folks will be thrilled to see old-style swim trunks and "Gidget"-style bikinis. And if rollerblades aren't for you, try a pair of sneaker-style skates. Vintage clothing for kids, as well as a "Rubenesque" section, are more reasons why this clothing store stands out. Also, check out the selection of accessories, including classic sunglasses and suitcases.
