WORST SERVICE EVER. I brought in 2 purses. Came in to get them 2 weeks AFTER they were supposed to be done and they hadn't even started on them. They acted like it was no big deal. 2 weeks later called to make sure they were done, and not only did they not do what they promised to do, but they were so extremely rude about it that I was completely baffled. Extremely terrible business practices!!
Awesome Service! Just couldn't believe it. After multiple so-so experiences at nearby cobblers I tried Derek's. I started them out with a simple re-heel that they gave me back the next day. I then gave them 2 pair that needed new leather half soles and heels. I got those back in two days and they turned out beautifully! The last project that I gave them was a conversion of a leather soled shoe into a full-length vibram rubber sole. This time I took advantage of their free delivery and 2 days later I got my shoes back. With their 10% off for pre-payment the prices actually turn out to be lower that the other guys I had tried out. These guys get the job done quickly, the quality is top notch, and bend over backwards to serve. They offer curbside service, free delivery, discounts for pre-payment, a web site to check and see if your order is complete, and a nice little shop. Oh, I almost left out... they sell a punch card for shoe shines (10 shines for $30). You only pay $3/shine and if you get one done while you wait they give you a coupon for $1 off a coffee at the Fresh Pot right across the hall in Morgan's Alley! All this and their short turn around times make Derek's a must try, even if you're a regular somewhere else.
Head over Heels for Derek's! – Derek's is awesome. 2 months ago I needed new leather soles on my Fryes. They were completed in just two days. Best of all I pre-paid to get a discount and then when I went to pick them up I just game them a call and they ran them out to me at the curb! I have had some other leather sole repairs at other downtown shops that did not hold up very well. I have been tramping around on these for more than a month and am very happy with the quality of materials used. I love that they are friendly and organized, I was even able to check on their website to verify that my order was able to pick up. I saw something on their website that they now offer free delivery... another bonus! I'll definitely be going back to Derek's!
I love Derek's – I took three pairs of shoes to Derek's and they did an excellent job replacing the soles. Two leather sole projects came out better than original with better quality leather and excellent craftsmanship. They did such a good job cleaning and polishing the shoes that they looked better than they had in years! On anther project they repaired the straps on my purse so well that I can't even tell where the repair was made. The other bonus is that I got it all back in less than a week. Where else can you get that! I also love looking through all their footwear books and magazines while I'm there. I highly recommend Derek's.
Fantastic Service – I needed an emergency heel repair Stopped in at Derek's and they repaired my heels on the spot and gave me a $2 coupon to get a coffee next door while I waited! They even did some extra unexpected touch-ups on my scuffs and gave me a beautiful pair of shoes back... all in the time that it took me to just get my coffee!
Terrible Service/Quality – Either this shop has changed hands, or the quality/service level has gone down dramatically. I took in a pair of shoe's that needed to be restitched. They were supposed to be ready in 2 weeks, but when I went to pick them up, they could not find them. I didn't have long to wait, so I came back a few days later. After ~15 minutes, they found them and the work had not yet been done. They told me they would do it ASAP and would call me when it was complete. A week later I called them, the work was still not done, but they said I could pick the shoes up later that day. They were finally ready when I went back the third time, more than a month after originally promised. I mentioned my dissatisfaction, whom I had talked to once before. He seemed completely disinterested and was actually rude in saying they offer no refunds.
Also, I later noticed that even though I had prepaid, they still charged me the full price (it's supposed to be a small discount for pre-payment). I suppose that's my fault for not noticing when I paid, but it annoyed me considering everything else.
My wife and I have used this shop for several years, and it used to be great. It's really too bad that the work and the service have gone so far downhill.
Worst job ever! Worst service ever! How DO THEY STAY IN BUSINESS??? – Took in a pair of white satin heels to be dyed to match formal evening dress. Shoes were not ready when promised. Came back in 2 days and shoes had white streaks on heel and vamp where dye had not covered. Came back next day (afternoon of my event) to get promised fixed job. Shoes looked the same. I took them home and covered white satin with marker so I could wear them that eveing.
Worst job I have ever seen. Least professional service I have ever seen. Will NEVER use them again.
Dreadful, – I am so livid with Derek's shoe repair, I have made a point of loging in
and filling out a profile, to make people aware.
Derek, made alterations to my girlfriends $350 riding boots, (which were brand new/un worn) lowering the height. To be quite honest it's the worst job I have ever seen, the leather has been badly cut, nothing lines up, stitching is inconsistent, the boots are ruined . Frankly it looks like a 10 year old child made the alterations with a pair of scissors. I was so disgusted with the so called" work" and the fact my girlfiend had to pay $75 for Derek to ruin her boots.
I went down there to complain and ask for a refund or some kind of explaination as to the poor craftsmanship...Derek, seemed to think that his work was good enough. I won't embarrass Derek by posting an image of the sub-standard work.
Derek if you read this, its not about the money... you can keep that ..its the fact you can whole heartedly stand behind your poor workmanship and say its the best you can do. You went on to add you have been in the business for over 20 years. In all honesty, if thats what you've learnt in 20 years, you should be embarassed...
I actually would put Minus stars if I could.
Multiple crappy experiences – I'm not a vindictive person, but the service at this place makes me angry. I kept going back, thinking it would get better or they were just having a bad day. The shoe repairs are subpar, they don't bother to polish your shoes after they're fixed and I've heard more than once, "We can't fix that". I understand them trying to do right by the customer if a repair isn't going to last very long. But if the shoe is basically trash without the fix and I'm willing to pay, then why tell me no? The guys behind the counter are nice enough, but they have this laissez-faire attitude that is just maddening. Most notable example: I brought in a pair of shoes with a loose heel. The fellow who helped me said that he wasn't going to be able to tell if they could fix it until he took the shoe apart, but that they would call me in a couple of days if they couldn't fix it. I left my cell number. The pickup date he gave me was for two WEEKS out. They always want at least a week and a half, which is a long time to be without your shoes. But I digress. The two weeks pass and I drop in to pick them up. The same guy hunts around for my shoes for a while and then must have found them in a pile marked, "hopeless cases", because he says they were unable to fix them. I asked him about the phone call I was supposed to get and he just shrugged like a guilty fifteen year old and said, "Yeah...sorry 'bout that". I went back three more times for new heels and was never once happy with the results. They insist that you wait until after 4pm on the pickup date, and yet EVRY SINGLE TIME I go in to get my shoes, they make me wait another 15 minutes while they "finish things up". I swear I think they're doing the repair right then! Poor service, badly managed, no sense of urgency, "Take it or leave it" attitude.
I choose to leave it.
