Reviews for Hometown Pizza

Sweaty Pools of Pepperoni Juice – The fact that I am writing this review is to privilege all of those who haven't had the deep pleasure of eating a pizza from Hometown. Yes, there are still some jewels that foodies and stumptown blog pirates have not discovered on the fringes of the treasure map that is Portland's eateries.

To put it simply, as an atheist to religion, this pizza has made a some-what gluten intolerant doubter a pizza pie believer. Two tips: pepperoni with pineapple and sausage with mushroom. There you have it. Get ready to worship.

maybe will try again – First time I tried to stop by this place, I was turned away by the Cash Only sign on the door - but I noticed it sure smelled good! When I did come back, though, the taste didn't live up to the smell. The crust had a kind of sour yeasty taste which wasn't really to my liking. But most striking was the volume of stuff on the pizza. We ordered the veggie pizza with extra cheese. When he gave us the pizza, it was in a pizza box (normal) with a ziploc bag of sliced tomatos (huh?). And when we opened the box, we found that the depth of veggies on top was greater than the depth of the crust/sauce/cheese. It was over an inch thick, and this was not a deep dish! I like veggies, a lot, but this was too much. In fact, I wonder if it contributed to the funniness of the crust (too much stuff on top = not enough heat to crust?). I would try going back and ordering something different, with fewer/less toppings, to see if that would yield a pizza that tasted as good as the smells wafting out the door, but I'm not running, running back.
