Really lousy service since the new owners took over. Steven, who is always there for brunch, is an arrogant little waiter. I have been going there for several years, but will not stop in there again----ever! Orders were often wrong, as well as wrong bill amounts a lot of the time. Steer clear!
WORST Service EVER! – I would give it less then a 1 but I can't. This guy I am dating and I stopped in after drinking at CC's. Well I was informed by bartender Ricky informed me that 'per bar staff' I am no longer allowed in the bar, even though just a matter of a few hours ago He served us. I have this strong theory that because my ex bf is one of his personal best friends. Even if I could go back there I wouldn't. The wait staff are the rudest ever. I had friends before that were there earlier that they sat there for 20 minutes with out a menu. Service has been like this for over the past year since new management. Does he not realize that his bad servers are going to run his business down and the only ones that will remain will be the alcoholics that go there because the bar staff make them super strong for them. So my advice.. STAY away and if you go.. DON'T Talk to the bar staff because they are back stabbing bitches there.
Great Drinks, Great Food, Not Perfect – When I first moved to Portland, my soon-to-be Partner took me to the Fox every week because it was his favorite bar. At first I couldn't see what the fuss was about; yes they poured great drinks, but the bartenders were brash and the regulars "bar flies" all had attitude to match.
Fast forward a few years, and I've come to love this place. Although we can't quite be considered bar flies ourselves, Partner and I return again and again for the great drinks and the good quality food - especially for the price. And even though we aren't on a first-name basis with all the regulars, we definitely consider this place our home-away-from-home. Do they all still have attitude? Sometimes, but I consider that part of the charm.
The real negative is the wait. If they get busy (like on a Friday evening), the small kitchen can't keep up with the demand, and you end up waiting upwards of 30 minutes for your food. The previous owner thought to provide munchies when this happens, but so far the new owner hasn't done so.
Except for that, I highly recommend this bar for everyone in the Family.
Food is great, service is good depending on who's working – I'm a recent trans plant from the south and was in the bar with a few friends. Most of the staff are great. Once specific bar tender (Frank) has a bit of an attitude. He blatantly ignored several people in my party and stayed and visited with friends at the end of the bar while we stood and waited for drinks and politely asked for service and got ignored. We went to C.C. Slaughter's and obtained punctual service there. I was there on another night and needed to get away rather quickly and Frank was at the bar again and I asked if he could assist with my card and he asked for my name and I gave him my first name and in a very snippy tone he asked "Well? Were you born with a last name?" That did not impress me at all. I have been back to the restaurant a few times and Ricky the bar tender is right on the spot. There is another waiter that has tattoos on his arms and he is awesome as well. One bad apple doesn't make the entire crop bad. So I just know that when Frank is working my service will be bad and to go around the corner. Maybe its something the owner should think about in this failing economy??
Awesome steaks and stiff drinks for little $ – The food is excellent for the low price. I had a steak dinner and it was the best steak I have ever had anywhere! I like my staek cooked medium well and so it can sometimes be tough to chew. This steak was cooked medium well and it absolutely melted in my mouth! I cut it with my fork! YUM! As good as the food is, the drinks are out of this world! I like a good, stiff drink and the bartenders here don't disappoint. The bad part about that is I am spoiled by the stiff drinks now and have to order doubles anywhere else! Usually 3 single well drinks are enough for the entire evening, 4 if you eat first. But don't let the word "single" fool you! These would be considered a double or triple at most other places!
Fabulash !! – Very impressed with everything............inexpensive but FANTASTIC food and excellent portions. Great Staff....very friendly ! Excellent Service and Quick !! Great place to just come and sit. Whether alone, as a couple or as a group. Just off Max Line for convenience. Definitely one of our favourite places !!
