Great Bar and Brewery – Fun place with great beer, great food and really nice prices. I love the C-Note IPA!
Great beer! "Do you mind if your table is dirty?" – My man and I were excited to hit this place for the great Monday deal! We sat at the only available table in the back, but it was so dark we couldn't see the notes we were trying to read. We asked the waitress if we could move to the window if it became available, and she seemed perplexed and irritated by the request, and informed us that there were no open tables. We thanked her for her help. When one did open up, we moved over. The waitress covering that area came over to pick up the tip and glared at us pointedly, like we didn't belong in her turf or something? Instead of proceeding to wipe down the sticky, oily crumb slop left by the people before us. She said, "Oh, I hope you don't mind if your table is dirty!" and then she walked off, never to attend to us again... except when we finally managed to painfully wrestle their WiFi password from her and proceeded in making this posting.
Bottom line: The beer is good (but not as good as other beer bases in the area), the music is crappy and loud, the people are colorful and interesting, and the service is piss poor. I wanted to love it here!
Disappointed and Vulgar Service – EDIT: Look at their reviews. Everything after 2007 is all negative. Did management change? Since then, this place is awash. Good luck in this economic climate. Losing customers left and right.
Unfortunately, tasty beer is not enough to draw me back to this waterhole as there is plenty of other place in Portland that offer great beer.... and service... together, what a concept!
Bad service seems to be the norm here. While I can tolerate servers forgetting to fill up water or bringing food late, what I cannot tolerate is extremely RUDE and VULGAR waitresses who don't understand the concept of service, even at a minimal level.
I agree with what many people say. Waitresses are rude and they appear to be interested in everything else but their customers. Their tip reflected it and this customer will never return.
CRAZY BAD SERVICE – NEVER GOING HERE AGAIN! DO NOT RECOMMEND!
I was in the neighborhood shopping on 23rd and decided to step into this bar for food and drinks. While the beer was good, i will have to say this place has quite possible the worst service i have ever experienced. And it wasn't only from one waiter, but it was from another one as well.
Rude, contempt at questions, and jeers described the overall feel from both of the lady waiters. One of them even whispered under her breath, "Jesus Christ," when i asked for water. WATER!
I will never go here again and i will make sure all my friends never go there again. Quite possibly the worst experience in a bar/restaurant. And it is all thanks to not only the oily food and incredibly dirty bathroom, but most importantly the two waitresses who displayed CRAZY BAD service!
Disappointed - – Seems to be a general disdain for the customers.
Also, I think they're not using the correct type of detergent for their beer glasses, I detect a faint whiff of chlorine, pretty much ruins any beer. The staff has been inattentive to rude on the times I've been there over the past few years. I asked for a sandwich menu, and was told, "we don't have a sandwich menu, just a regular menu", in a snide voice. Then he never returned to ask me if I wanted to order, and I was sitting at the bar. I tipped accordingly.
One of my faves! – We generally do a lunch a NOL, and have yet to be disappointed. I always order fries dark and crispy -- and they are great! Burgers to order, excellent. And with no more smoking, air is breathable. And the beer?
That's the best part of dining here.
Overcharged by rude staff. Twice. – Forget about it. I had gone to this place for ten years, but never again. The service was often lacking, but two consecutive trips where my change was not returned and the waiter acted like I was doing her a favor has made my decision for me. An email to the website received no response. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Try the Hawthorne St. Alehouse instead.
Excellent beer but worse service than Guantanamo Bay.. – I've loved going to the Lompoc over the years. The food tends to be pretty good with emphasis on the soups but the real reason to go is really the beer, which is extremely delicious.
Be prepared for some atrocious service though. On a good night you'll just be treated poorly and ignored. If its bad they might get in a pissing match over something random or petty. I don't know what's going on at that place but its always been pretty rough and over billing is somewhat common though reluctantly corrected if you catch it.
More recently I went in there with a couple friends on Monday on which they have a special "Miser Monday" which is $2.50 pints all day, which I would normally recommend. However, our tab arrived tab with everything at full price. That's odd. The reason is was that apparently starting that Monday they decided that all the beers we ordered were exempt ? though there was no mention or note of this anywhere in the bar except for some scribbles on the chalkboard on the other side of the pub. The waitress was typically annoyed that we mentioned it and wouldn't budge on for some people but knocked some change off of the others. Ridiculous.
I won't be going back any time soon but I'll miss the beer.
Good food ruined by secondhand smoke – We wanted to meet some out of town friends someplace in the NW area of Portland. As regulars at Oaks Bottom Public House, we thought New Old Lompoc might be a good bet. Boy were we wrong! While the food was good and the beer was fine, the atmosphere was lacking. It was so dark we had a hard time reading the menus, and the 4 of us had a hard time breathing while we were there. I was embarassed to have invited my friends to meet me there, and felt badly that we chose a place so completely smoke filled. As the sister pub of Oaks Bottom, a non smoking establishment, I figured we'd be looking at the same environment. I couldn't have been more wrong.
If you can handle the smoke it's a decent place to eat, but it's not so good that I can look past the smoke. We will not be returning.
Amazing Beer.....Great Dark Pub Atmosphere!!! – These guys are great!! I've been to there pub a few times and had a great time with friends and just myself. I usually never just travel to a resturant/Pub without expecting good food and Beer, but New Old Lompoc is the rare exception that Food comes secondary to the Beer! Also, the actual bar is so tiny and faces you in such a way that they have to greet you when you walk in!! Nice and Dark on a Saturday night for times you wish not really see that blind date sitting across from you. Toilets are classical pull chain (or used to be) and lend to old dirty, great pubs. If you like Horse Brass with the lights turned way down, this is your joint!!
