Look no further!! – I was hesitant at first due to some of the bad reviews that I read here but THEY WERE WRONG!!
These guys were sooo helpful. I was looking for a film for a class and they knew just where it was and were the only place in town that had a copy. It was a real pleasure going into the store and I knew I had found my regular video store!
The selection is amazing and you can even browse a great deal of films by director. I found some stuff by some of my favorite directors that I did not even know about!! Everybody who was working there was so nice and willing to help, they even recommended some films I might have over looked. A real video store at last!!
Not just knowledgable, but honest! – I love this store so much. The weekend atmosphere is just awesome and having the staff know you by the first name is just great! They will bend over backwards to help you find the movie you are looking for, too. If they can't find it, they'll certainly try to order it it for you.
What I like best in this store is that the staff not only knows what they are talking about, they are totally honest about it too. They'll tell you when they think a movie is bad or if they totally dug it or just plain haven't seen it. Plus, they aren't sticklers for fees. This place is super genuine. Even my puppy gets a treat every time he comes in!
I love love love trilogy.
Trilogy Is What Small Local Business Is All About – Trilogy video has won me over from Netflix. From their vast selection, to their superior and friendly service, to their uber dog-friendliness, they are what local small businesses are all about. Think you'll miss your netflix queue? They'll keep a list for you. Jonesing for the latest anything? They'll have it and hold it for you and you can watch it THAT NIGHT, not when Netflix gets around to sending it. Needing a little human contact after all your hours in the cube and online? Trilogy is the place to go. It is hands-down my favorite-ever anything-shop, and I have frequented a LOT of small local businesses over the last couple-few decades!
Wonderful video store – Interesting selection, including a large shelf of British comedies. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful staff. Pleasant atmosphere. It's a pleasure to shop there.
Knowledgable staff. Spiteful and reactive owner. Good selection of movies. – For several years now I have been recommending Trilogy, even when I did not live in town. I would rave about their selection of obscure movies and their knowledgeable staff. I also recommended going there as they are a small fish in an ocean of mean and nasty big fish (the chains). As a small business owner I felt compelled to support them.
Ever had late fees? Most people I have talked to regretfully admit they have and usually when they go in to rent again they pay up... isn't that normal? Not necesarily something I advocate but it is within the somewhat flawed but not evil human realm.
Recently I had three traumatic things happen in my life (my Father's passing included) and I was flaky in that I did not pay my late fee of $14.00. I knew I needed to but it was something I put off as at the time it seemed there were more pressing issues to deal with. I was wrong but was planning on paying it.
Next scene, my daughter came into rent movies and signed up. The staff was friendly and helpful, as usual. She left practically whistling as she was so excited to watch the staff's favs.
Next: Moments later my daughter received a call at her house asking if she knew me (the evil one). My daughter admitted I was her Mother. The owner proceeded to yell at my daughter, threatening to charge her for my movies as she had her card... and asked her in not the most congenial manner to never rent there again, "Promise you will never rent here again!"
What should have happened?: The owner should have asked my daughter to have her Mother call them. That is all. A done deal. I would have called and paid over the phone (I did after).
I am remorseful. I have sinned but isn't this over the top?
Onto Movie Madness even though we have to juant over the bridge vs. walk down the street. I think we will be better served and not asked for repentance and treated with distain if we owe 14.00 in late fees.
Knowledgeable staff. Spiteful and reactive owner. Good selection of movies.
THIS STORE IS NOT WHAT IT'S MADE OUT TO BE – TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,
FOR YEARS I RENTED MY VIDEOS AND DVD'S FROM TRILOGY UNTIL RECENTLY. I AM A MAJOR
FILM MAKER FROM LOS ANGELES AND HAD MOVED TO THE PEARL AREA SEVERAL YEARS AGO.
THAT'S WHEN I FIRST DISCOVERED TRILOGY AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION. AT ANY RATE....SEVERAL
MONTHS AGO ONE OF YOUR STAFF MEMBERS HIGHLY RECOMMENED ANOTHER VIDEO STORE
FOR ME TO CHECK OUT. AND, I'LL TELL YOU THIS....AM I GLAD I DID. THE NAME OF THE STORE
IS MOVIE MADNESS VIDEO & MORE LOCATED IN SOUTHEAST PORTLAND. IT'S NOT ONLY THE
BEST VIDEO STORE I'VE EVER SEEN, BUT IT'S ALSO ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE VIDEO STORE'S
IN THE COUNTRY. AND, I'VE SEEN MANY...BUT NONE CAN COMPARE TO THIS WONDERFUL STORE.
THE OWNER (WHO I HAVEN'T MET YET) MUST HAVE A GREAT APPRECIATION AND RESPECT FOR
FILM AND FOR THE ARTS AS WELL. HE HAS A MUSEUM OF RARE COSTUMES AND PROPS THAT
WERE USED IN MANY FILMS AND HE HAS THE LARGEST SELECTION OF DVD AND VIDEO TITLES
I HAVE EVER SEEN. ANYWHERE!!!! SO....HOW CAN TRILOGY SAY THAT THEY HAVE THE LARGEST
AND BEST SELECTION IN PORTLAND AND IN OREGON FOR THAT MATTER. YOU WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING....AFTER SEEING AND BECOMING A CUSTOMER TO MOVIE MADNESS.....TRILOGY, THEIR STAFF MEMBERS AND CUSTOMERS SHOULD CHECK OUT MOVIE MADNESS.
IT'S A VERY UNIQUE AND WONDERFUL VIDEO STORE. AND YOU KNOW SOMETHING ELSE...
I PROMISE YOU....THAT ANYONE WHO GOES THERE WILL NOT WANT TO GO ANYWHERE ELSE.
Fantastic, Epic, Wonderful! – I can't emphasize the greatness this video store enough. The local owners are true movie fans. The buyer, Marc, who also writes for the Oregonian's "A &E" knows his stuff. If you think you have seen a lot of movies and are bored by the standard fare, check this place out. If you insist on DVD, their selection is superb. Easily the best video store in Portland. They have films that are out of print, rare gems and lots of independent films which you WILL NOT find anywhere else. Tired of false late fees from Blockbuster and Hollywood? Trilogy's system is foolproof and every employee is a movie expert.
