Huge pool hall and one of the few like it in this town. Two-level pool fun, with couches upstairs and lottery games on the first floor. It's not only a locals favorite, but it's also the home of BCA league nights on Mondays, so getting a table on this night is difficult if you're not on a team. Inexpensive food and decent drinks. One of my favorite watering holes!
Great for pool. Everything else SUCKS! – Likable staff, with crappy attitudes who just do not give a rip about your order. Long waits for food and staff to even find your table. Expensive food and drink for what is otherwise a most excellent pool hall. Insanely bad and loud music. Ok, for a few drinks and shooting some stick, but stay the hell away from this place otherwise. No wonder it is practically deserted some times I have been in there. The management should wake the funk up, 'cause the word is out that this place generally sucks.
A local bar I feel comfortable in – I've gone to Sam's pretty regularly over the past year when I'm in the mood for a burger and beer. The food is diner-quality - not the healthiest, but tasty and just what I'm looking for sometimes. The beers on tap are good, including Rogue's Dead Guy and Bridgeport's IPA. Their free wifi consistently works - something I can't say about too many other places.
Some people have talked about the music being played too loud - I agree there have been a few times I've gone in there and found it to be pretty loud. But the vast majority of the time they keep it down. I usually avoid the place when it's especially busy for that reason.
I AGREE - NOT A POOL HALL – I had the exact same experience at Sams. The music is ridiculously loud the staff is rude and the management definately does not care if you ever come back. I complained to management and was basically told if I didnt like it don't come back. And in this economy consumers are a commodity. I have steadily seen the place become more empty every time I go. Now I know why. I will not spend my money here when there are plenty of other places to play pool, eat and drink.
NOT A POOL HALL, staff will not reduce the music volume. – Sams is more akin to a night club than a pool hall. The music is usually so loud that you cannot have a reasonable coversation with your friends that you are there with. The table rates are expensive and the staff don't give a damn if you ever come back. I desperately tried to give Sams chance as it is very close to my house. I started going several times a week, but in the end, I decided not to ever go back. If you like to play pool your better off going to Classic, or any other place in town for that matter. If you like to play carom (3-cushion billiards) check out hot shots in Beaverton. I will never patronize Sams again. It could be a nice place if they toned it down just a little bit.
pool paradise!! – last review was 3 years ago.....WOW, Sam's has changed and is changing for the better.
End of November?? early December Sam's will be adding a second level with 6 new tables, darts, couches and way more room opened up downstairs, literally no "dead spots"......grade "A" service and menu.
Rack 'em up in this spacious, swanky Hollywood pool hall. – In Short
Reminiscent of the Rat Pack era, the retro-flavored decor adds a touch of style to this Northeast neighborhood joint. Sharks and wannabes circle the dozen pool tables while the jukebox blasts tunes from Ella Fitzgerald, Van Morrison, Marilyn Manson and They Might Be Giants. Not typical pool hall chow, the menu ranges from stroganoff and alfredo pastas to salads, juicy burgers, steak or chicken dishes--all made with local ingredients.
A laid back place to shoot stick – Sam's has become a favorite weekend haunt. Predominantly mid 20s crowd, though there are some "old" dogs that stay out past their bedtime ;-) Rob the weekend bartender is great. The tables are in better-than-average condition. Decent selection of house cues. (roughly 1 out of 5 are straight) Good selection on the juke box. I've heard the food is good, though I have yet to try myself. A pitcher of Hef isn't outrageous. High ceilings, so unless the place is packed with smokers, you shouldn't notice. Plenty of places to sit and chat if you're not feeling like pool.
Sam's has it all! – If a comfortable, clean, and relaxed pool hall is what you're looking for; look no further! Sam's is the place to go for great pool, friendly staff, good food/drinks, and the best music options in town! The tables are all level and clean, the food is great, and ladies...for once, the ladies room is completely safe to use! Friends, family, and co-workers alike will love Sam's for a quick bite to eat or a marathon pool session.
Best Pool Hall in Town – We've been regulars here for a year or so now. This place is the best pool hall in town. Cheap drinks, excellent food, staight/level tables (that's important to some of us), friendly staff, and a well mixed jukebox.
This place is one of the best afterwork bars. Come in and enjoy a pitcher of your favorite drink, and play a few games a pool.
