Carpet Good, Installers are CRAP! – I ordered my carpet, and had a relatively good experience with Marion's sales staff. FYI.. the carpet installers are NOT Marion's employees and you have to pay them separately. They didn't come to the house when they were supposed to, and when I called them, they told me they were running late, and would be there shortly....4 hours later, they called me back and said they had to reschedule! This is unacceptable. I'm never going to Marion's again, and I will NOT recommend them to anyone. Hope this helps someone out there.
Rick, you did it again! Shame on you! – Salesman Rick Correa quoted and charged us for quality pad
then sent us low grade pad. I wondered when he did not
write down the pad on the deposit....now I know why.
Very positive experience with Marion's – A friend told us to give Marion’s a look before pulling the trigger on re-carpeting our entire house. We meet with Bob (manager) and explained what we wanted and expected from our new carpeting. Bob took the time to explain the different styles and materials used in making carpet so we could make an educated decision. We left with two handfuls of color swatches (definitely do this because colors can shift a lot depending on the light source). We got back to Bob with our choices and after our measurements were all confirmed, he saved us about $500 by pulling some of what we needed from the remnant section (same carpet but different dye lot). We could do this because the room is separated by wood flooring so you can only tell the difference in color when swatches are held side by side in natural sunlight.
The crowning jewel in this whole process was the install. Let’s face it, you can have the best carpeting in the world but if it is improperly installed, you will hate it. We got Jeremy and he did an incredible job. We had a few tricky spots and funky dimensions but we can find no seams. Jeremy was also very flexible with the movement of all our furniture. He calculated exactly what was needed which obviously saved us money. We didn’t even need to vacuum after he left.
We are extremely happy and would highly recommend Marion's to our friends.
handmade wool carpet for stairs – I decided to visit Marion's Carpet to compare their pricing to a bid received from another carpet store. Was skeptical at the price difference and then noticed several other carpet rolls that looked very interesting. Turns out it was their wool carpet specials. Ken was my salesman and he was great to deal with. I was able to do the stairs in this incredible handmade wool carpet for less than the other store was bidding with a high quality nylon carpet. Most importantly- I love what I got. Great service from Ken- he's been selling carpet since dinasours roamed the earth and Nick and his brother did excellent job with the install-nice guys who were carefull and respectfull - I will recommend to anyone- I don't use the work awesome- but you get the idea
Buyer beware *do not give credit cards to Marions Carpet – I never do this review stuff. But, if I can save one person from the violation that just occured to me, this review will be well worth it.
To make a long story short, in April 2010 my husband and I selected carpet for all bedrooms and a laminate for kitchen/living room. We gave a deposit of $2500 with a check and $500 cash *note that the deposit was not reflected on my receipt-only the product was noted. We changed our mind on the laminate and it was like pulling teeth to cancel it. They wanted to "change our minds". Finally, on 06/03/10 the saleswoman agreed to refund me the diffference since we still wanted the carpet. She told me I paid $2500 with a check and $500 with a card. I corrected her. She asked for my card because "it would take a week to process and send a check". I gave her my card for the refund. She had to refund me in 3 separate transactions because she was not refunding me correctly. Finally, after the 3 refunds, I had my remaining deposit back.
Flash forward 10 weeks. Yesterday I am balancing my checking account and see that they charged my card (the number of which they only got to refund me in the first place) for $500! I called immediately and was told they overcredited me in June. Their office manager said that they have no record of my $500 cash payment as their records only show $2500 by check. I was furious that they charged my card WITHOUT so much as notifying me. I never authorized them to charge my card ever and I am questioning why they insisted on my giving them my card number in the first place for the credit I received in June.
This is still not resolved. I am waiting for the office manager to call me back but buyer BEWARE when you deal with Marion's Carpet.
And, one of the prior reviews about the installation--it was like reading exactly what happened to me down to the urine on the toilet seat.
poor installation job – When we got our carpet installed recently through Marion's, we regretted it later. The installer they sent came an hour late, when he did arrive, he brought all of these young guys who were working with him, and left them to rip out all of the carpet while he went off to get the carpet.
While the installer was gone, his lackeys very haphazardly ripped out our old carpeting and in the process broke a wall telephone jack and knocked a big chunk of plaster off the corner of a wall.
After they installed the new rug, they used our $200 vacuum to clean up and in the process jammed up the vacuum so that we could no longer use it, so they left the rest of the mess behind for us to deal with. They left huge staples all over the floor as well - my mom subsequently stepped on one.
We also discovered that one of them had gotten into our kitchen cupboards and used a glass without asking us (we were in another room), one had used the restroom and left not only the toilet seat up, but also left urine on the toilet rim. YUCK!
In addition, they almost forgot to put a closet door back on before they left, until we reminded them, and we discovered that they did not install the new carpet in the hallway closet as we had asked them to - even though there was enough carpeting for it - so now the closet has tan carpeting while the new hallway carpeting is brown. Not to mention the fact that you could see where all the seams were in the new carpeting.
For $500, I'd expect better service than that, especially after the Marion's saleswoman said the installer was "highly recommended".
Poor Customer Response – I phoned today to inquire about carpeting for a bedroom and asked if they carried environmental/recycled or wool products. The gentleman I spoke with gave an exasperated sigh and began a lecture on Marion's being the largest carpet and flooring provider in the Northwest. I then asked if they were located near Rejuvenation on Grand Ave. Again, it was the same irritated response, saying go to the website and click on the directions. I thanked the man for his time and said goodbye. He hung up the phone with no response. In this economic time what keeps a business afloat and thriving is exceptional customer care and service. I will look elsewhere for that focus from another vendor for this purchase.
Disclosure concerns – I called to get some general pricing. The person who answered was very helpful and nice. When I asked if they gave free in house estimates, she said they did but we first had to come in and see if there was flooring we liked. (understandable) There was no mention of a deposit for the free estimate until I specificially asked (because of the below review) It was confirmed a desposit would be required for the estimate. This may have been disclosed when we made the appt for the estimate. I won't know as I will not be shceduling an estimate. I just like everything shared up front- no surprises.
not upfront about "deposit" – We were looking to buy carpet for our new rental house (for our son and daughter in law). We searched many places and thought we would try Marion's. The sales person was friendly, but neglected to mention that before anyone would come out to our house to give us an accurate quote we would need to put down a $550 deposit. We did not find that out until I called to say yes we were really interested and could someone come do a measurement and quote for us. I was told at first that no one would come out and then after talking to our salesperson, he said he would have an installer call me and would that day be fine? I waited all day. No call. I called at 5:15. I was told that the installers were all busy and that it was their policy to get a deposit before they came out to the house. First $550 deposit for my free estimate? No thank you. Two, no one had called me back, I had to call them. This decided us to go with someone else. I did write the company and the salesperson emailed me back and asked if I would be willing to talk with him. I regret I did not follow thru, but I am being honest and telling you the story here. I think it is a little shady to need such a large deposit upfront, before you have actually purchased the carpet. ( I wondered if it would be hard to get my deposit back if I did not go thru them). I had wanted to know the real measurement and cost, as I know it varies from the actual footage depending on how they have to lay the carpet. I was fully ready to go thru them as I liked the carpet, but while this may have just been a glitch, it left a bad taste in my mouth. So know before you go. NO real estimate until you pony up a Large deposit. A small one would have been fine with me and knowing upfront too. Their advertising says nothing about it either!
Very Happy Customer – Marion's Carpet Warehouse has the greatest selection of floor coverings around. They also have a super knowledgable staff. I have shopped here several times and they always help me find the perfect floor covering. They have everything you need, carpet, laminate, tile, and rugs.
