"Just one thing" always turns into more shirts n stuff than you needed, but hey, $12 for a pineapple shirt.
This store is a well-oiled machine, and the buying team members are ruthlessly efficient--they know exactly what they want and they're picky, so don't be like the girl I saw last time I was in who took a cab over with all her stuff to sell, only sold one bag's worth, then had to sit on the curb with six other bags calling another cab instead of walking home empty-handed like she'd planned.
Friendly staff great prices – I love the staff at the buffalo exchange, they are very helpful and always nice. The buffalo exchange has great clothes, shoes, and accessories! I used to buy tons of clothes there but lately as money is tight I can either trade my clothes for cash or trade my clothes for other clothes. I love their eclectic variety and would highly recommend you check it out. It saves tons of time from going store to store in the mall at a third of the price for this month/years merchandise. Plus they also take vintage items. Plus, other stores are in the area so it is convenient (i.e. powell's fred meyer etc).
Staff not knowledgeable – We were pretty unhappy with this location!
We used to go to Buffalo Exchange in San Diego years ago.( When we were young and hip I guess)
Any way, we had some Army uniforms to sell and thought they'd make great costumes so we called in advance to see if they were interested. Upon telling them exactly what we had, we were told to come right down. When we got there after standing in a long selling line we were told they don't take these kinds of things and that they had far too many of some of the others. Didn't I ask just that on the phone??? They did take my Old Navy Pea coat ,which I brought as an after thought, and is neither hip nor vintage.
They obviously felt our time was of No value to us.
I buy and sell a ton of used clothing and the shops are usually pretty straight forward about what they are accepting at any given time.
WE WON"T GO BACK!!!
alway good finds. – I personally think this location trumps burnside's but it may be personal style. Shirts are plentiful here and pants are as well. It's hard to leave this location empty handed and their buyers are much less picky than the burnside store.
You'll always find something – Like all used clothing stores, finding that perfect thing is hard. But it seems like I almost always find something here. The selection is always good, the clothing is usually in good condition, the staff is helpful, and the prices are always fair. Sure they've gone up, but everything has.
Hipsters are destructive – Once upon a time, Buffalo Exchange was an excellent place to go for both new and used clothing.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a good place to go but it's just not what it used to be. None of Portland's thrift stores are. My theory is that it's all of these hipsters moving here and selling their boring clothes.
True, it's a bit overpriced but so is Goodwill and BE is much better organized as well as a heck of a lot cleaner.
Sell them your clothes because I guarantee you'll find at least a pair of jeans to trade in for your old stuff.
Items are just okay... – quite crowded depending on which days you go, try the middle of the week in the afternoon for the best customer service where you get more attention. Be careful when picking clothes. I dug through all the racks, even the ones not in my size, to find a shirt from American Eagle for 10 bucks. It was the only article I liked and was of very high quality (compared to the others anyway). A majority of the clothes are not for my taste either because of the style, or the stains and quality. Otherwise, if you're into vintage and strange clothes or on a tight budget, give this place a try.
Overpriced. – It seems to me that the Burnside Buffalo has cheaper clothing. But then when I visit this one, most iteams seem overpriced and I can never seem to find much that I like. Oh well. I'll stick to Burnside.
My favorite clothing store! – I'm a Buffalo Exchange junkie. The selection is consistently solid, and the clothing is much higher quality than one might find at other secondhand stores. I've often found real gems here, and the staff is always courteous, friendly, and customer service-oriented.
As a clothing seller, I initially was "insulted" that the buyers took so few of my clothes, but I eventually realized that their selectivity was the very reason I love shopping there. My purchases are consistently stylish and in good shape, and they never smell like the bottom of someone's hamper. I think the buyers are as polite as possible when sifting through items you might think are treasures but really wouldn't sell worth beans. (It IS a business after all!)
I've also found that I hold onto clothes from Buffalo Exchange far longer than I do clothes from other places, so it's a great value overall.
A PLACE IN HEAVEN! – I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE THE GREAT SELECTION THAT WAS AVAILBLE, NOT TO MENTION THEY ALSO HAD CLOTHING FOR MEN AS WELL. I FOUND A PAIR OF NEARLY NEW 7 JEANS FOR ONLY $26. THE ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT IS THE AMOUNT OF TRY-ON ROOMS AND THE WAIT, MAKES YOU SWEAT THE METER SITUATION FOR PARKING...
Rustic AND Profound? – Their selection of used or "vintage" clothing is diverse and underpriced for the most part. You could probably find something you'd adore for less than you'd expect to pay...Nice feature eh? On more than one occasion I have attempted to purchase an item only to have a staff member tell me that there is another item just like the one I have, only priced slightly less...and then they retrieve it for me!!!
