REALLY, REALLY good authentic food!! – I almost hesitate to post this review as the place may become too popular. But it is soooo good, it would be a shame not to. I have been driving past this restaurant since moving here a few years ago and it is just not much to look at so I never took a chance on it. But like most good things, the looks are deceiving. The food is freshly prepared to order (in my case by the one woman working the entire restaurant that night). You can eat there or take out. I had the rellenos, enchiladas and chicken tacos. Everything was delicious! I felt like I had just stepped into Mexico. The woman working was super nice and very tolerant of my horrible Spanish (thankfully her English speaking was better than my Spanish speaking) and prepared some great food. Like true Mexican cooking, fresh, well prepared and not at all pretentious (as Portland food can sometimes be). This was just plan good cooking. I can't wait to go back!!
Hands down the best Mexican food in Portland – This is easily the most authentic (and cheap!) Mexican restaurant in Portland. The dishes are mouth-watering and lovingly prepared; breakfast is phenomenal, chiles rellenos melt in your mouth, plain cheese quesadillas are so good I wondered if they lace them with heroine...
The atmosphere, while not fancy, has been consistently friendly. And most dishes are between $4-7 dollars, full steak and seafood dinners can cost up to $10.
As a side note, I am baffled by djcad‎'s review... is there another Michoacan in the area he could be confusing with this gem?
Good food, Better Prices – Real nice people, feel at home eating there, watch as the cook prepares your food as you enjoy the aromas coming from the kitchen, if you like authentic mexican food,
you must try this place, keep more money in your pocket as you will pay
around $7.00 per person.
Much better, nearby – I thought I was entering a good, cheap hole-in-the-wall taqueria (that's what it looks like), but prices were around $9 for not particularly good food, and the place had the ambience of a slob college buddy's kitchen. There are much better taquerias all along Lombard, where atmosphere doesn't matter because the food's both cheap and good.
