Incredibly disappointing! Overpriced subpar food! – I had enjoyed the food at Da Vinci's for the past eight years. I had a Friday night off and I thought it would be great to get some great Italian food. When I walked in, I noticed the decor was different. No big deal. We sat down at our table and I looked around. This place had always been packed. It was Friday night and there were only five total tables occupied. I did not recognize the staff either. I asked the waitress if anything had changed in the last two years since and she said she didn't know. The menu looked different and the prices had gone up big time. After my meal, I later found out it had new owners. Which explains a lot.
I ordered the chicken piccatta at $16 and a side salad. The salad came out with one olive and a tomatoe. The dressing was completely different. The bread was the type of bread you get for .99 for sandwiches. Very cheap and no taste. Then the entree arrived. The chicken piccata used to have four cutlets, breaded with sauce, a side of sauteed zucchini and pasta with your choice of tomatoe or alfredo sauce. What arrived was one slimy unbreaded tasteless chicken hovering over a pile of spaghetti with capers. The noodles appeared to still have the water it was cooked in floating around. It didn't have much of a sauce, especially after the waitress dumped half of it in my purse that was lying on the floor, and my lap. The one slice of chicken was surrounded by a bunch of random vegetables and what looked like chocolate sauce creatively decorating the plate. I ate the chicken and noodles mainly because I wanted my $16 worth but left the vegetables, which was questioned by the waitress as in "what, you don't like vegetables?". I realized that I could make a better meal at home for cheaper. On top of that... with only five occupied tables, our salads, drinks and meals took a noticeably long time to get to our tables. I am pretty sure what used to be fresh food is now frozen and tasted as such. Such a shame! The previous owner, Patrick, but his passion into his restaurant and unfortunately, someone thought they could just profit off of a name and everyone will continue to love it even if EVERYTHING is different. I did also overhear some frustrated people ask for polenta, which was a staple for Da Vinci's and was told they do not serve it anymore. The patrons were noticably disappointed and one table, after it took them over half an hour to get their salads, discussed leaving and going somewhere else. On a further note, my phone was in my purse and it took me three days to clean the sauce from my dinner that was spilled in my purse out of it. When I called the restaurant to inform them my phone was damaged, I found out the waitress was also the owner/manager and the conversation we had was the nail in the coffin. I will need to find another Italian place. Too bad! This place was my favorite and Patrick's legacy is no more.
Terribly disappointing – Having eaten here in the past, I was excited to share it with my wife. Big mistake on my part. The dining room was full, to be expected on a Friday night. What was not to be expected was the now-lackluster food and the lackluster service. Our salads took 40 minutes to reach our table. The Bruschetta was 10 minutes after that after having to ask twice for it.
Dinner, 2 plates of Chicken Parmesan arrived at the hour-and-ten-minute mark. I was hoping the quality I remembered was going to justify the wait. The chicken was described as breaded and fried, with the expected accompaniments. However these were clearly baked breast portions (smaller than they used to be), no parmesan-and-spices breading, just bland chicken in meat sauce with cheese, on runny noodles.
Servers were bringing the wrong orders to tables throughout the evening as well, and we realized we were the lucky ones: we were one of the few tables who actually received their food withing 2 hours!!!!
Requesting the check was an interesting ordeal, as the hostess agreed and then disappeared. Mind you, at this point there were only 5 tables with patrons remaining, as several had simply left after not receiving their food. The hostess reappeared, started clearing tables, then apologized to 2 tables about the service, and offered free dessert to yet another table. 15 minutes later the hostess returned to ask if we needed anything else. We reminded her of the check we were still waiting for. It appeared, we paid, we left.
We will never go back. We weren't the only ones disappointed. I'm sorry that Da Vinci's ruined the evening. Once upon a time they were very good. Not anymore!
Pass the Salt – After reading the menu online and noticing the interview link of the young chef, I was excited to taste some locally grown, fresh italian cuisine. Sadly, my experience was under cooked focaccia drenched in olive oil and burnt onions along side a bowl of spaghetti featuring more olive oil and a handful of basil. The only redeeming quality in the food was the solitary green olive I discovered in my side salad. It tasted like heaven paired with my one tomato slice.
The chef and staff seemed very nice, what a shame that a good attitude doesn't help their menu flourish.
Last Time I go here!!! – I have been to this restaurant three times now. The first time was with friends right after the new owners took over. They seemed pretty disappointed in the fact that ownership had changed but I honestly thought the food was good. Then we went earlier this summer and were pleased to see they had live music with a nice jazz duo and some of the changes to the restaurant decor. However I thought the food was pretty disappointing and we wondered what happened to the good food we had before. It just didn't seem like much effort was put into preparing the food for how expensive it was and it was bland. Then when we were getting ready to leave we overheard the musicians saying they needed a ten minute break after an hour of playing for us and being told they needed to go play which I thought was not cool. After I tipped the musicians we left unpleased. We finally decided to give them another chance recently and were disappointed in both the service and the food quality. They charge way too much money for food that I can make better myself at home which is what I'll do next time I think about going there.
So bad, I joined Citysearch to write this review – My friend and I went to this restaurant on Thursday 8/19/10. I'd seen the sign for $6 lunch specials, so I talked her into trying the place.
It is nice inside.
There were no other customers. We were seated by a young lady who I am pretty sure had never waited on a table in her life. She gave us the menus and left. She came back with water. We ordered. With each order, she had to look at the menu to see what we were talking about. (Oh, those $6.00 specials--pasta with oil and different herbs, no smaller portions of a regular menu item, no meat items). We had a meat ball sub and an Italian sub type sandwich that was supposed to have salami and other typical italian items. We each got a cup of soup.
It took over 25 minutes for our food to arrive. I actually took out my phone and was going to give them two more minutes before I left--when the food finally appeared.
The soup was edible. It was either from a can or possibly last night. It was definitely not freshly made.
The meat ball sub had two scrawny meat balls on it. My friend said they were awful. My sandwich had a couple of pieces of salami, some shredded lettuce, a small pepper, and for tomatoes--this was a kicker--were two cherry tomatoes cut in half, placed cut side down on the top of the sandiwch, so there were four round holes in the top piece of bread.
The waitress came by while we were eating, refilled the water glasses, never said a word--No, How is everything? Can I get you anything?
We went to the counter to pay. She had to dig out the menu again to get the prices and add up the bill. While running the debit card, she turned to my friend and asked how things were--my friend said---"they were ok", without much enthusiasm. I hesitated a moment and told her, "Actually, we didn't care for anything we had." She replied, "that's good to know".
Bad food, bad service, and now I am not allowed to suggest a new place for lunch. Disappointing doesn't begin to describe it! I would not recommend this restaurant to ANYONE.
Excellent food! – We had a fantastic dinner at DaVinci's. We have not been to Davinci's since the new ownership. What were we waiting for? The decor has been updated and looks very nice. The service and food was teriffic. We are planning on going back with our family on a Friday (they have live music on Friday's) to enjoy the food and music.
very disappointed – My boyfriend and I went to Da Vincis last night for our 5th anniversary, we were very excited to go as we have had excellent food in the past. We were seated and about 15 minutes later we were given water. We then ordered a bottle of Pinot Gris, the waitress came back about 10 minutes later to say they didn't have that wine and brought something else that was not Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio and said that this is what they are using for Pinot Gris. So we ordered a different bottle of Pinot Grigio and they didn't have that either, but she said that they had this other bottle, ok, at this point I just wanted a drink, so she brought us a completely different bottle that wasnt even on the menu. We then ordered the antipasti platter, what we received was not was explained on the menu, there was only 1 cheese, and the veggies seemed like they were from the jar. Salad, if you can call it that, very small with half a cucumber slice no cheese no cracked pepper..so finally our main course comes. I ordered the seafood fettucini, it was supposed to have crab, shrimp and scallops, no crab, instead clams and it was alfredo soup and tasteless, they did not bother to let me know that they were out of crab. My boyfriends dish the carbonara was so salty. The waitress came by to ask how our food was and I told her and she took $3 off my dinner which was a $20 dish. Not acceptable. We also were not asked if we wanted desert, but by this time we had already invested 2 horrible hours and wanted to get the hell out of there. We will NEVER go back. This was a very expensive disappointing anniversary.
Gluten Free Italian – This was our first visit to DaVinci's. My mother and I both have Celiac disease and could not have been happier with the service we received. The waiter was very informed of the gluten free options and if unsure asked the chef about exact ingredients. Our meals were absolutely perfect, we had the braised duck and chicken masala-no flour. Heather, the chef, uses one of the best gluten free pastas and it was perfectly al dente. It was wonderful to have a wonderful Italian meal that I did not have to cook myself.

Loved the Experience! – Superb meal with fresh made and locally grown products. What a huge improvement from the former menu and restaurant appearance. I can't recommend this place enough....it was fantastic! The salad actually had fresh greens, the bread was perfectly warmed and quite fresh, the seafood was awesome as were the sauces. Thank you for upscaling our Milwaukie restaurant opportunities!!
