Cafe Allegro.... its sad how much restraunts can go down hill!! – I started going to Cafe Allegro when I was 10 years old in 1990 to 1998 every friday as a family.... but once Steve quit managing that store the quality of the food went down BIG TIME!!! Steve was so particular with how the food was supposed to taste!! I never once did not like my plate..I got the same dish every time (Chicken Artichoke), so I know how that pasta is supposed to taste... it is now bland and boring!! On april 1, 2006 I decided to give Cafe Allegro another chance. That night I was leaving Oregon and moving to Texas. So I really wanted to have Cafe Allegro my last meal since that place was such a big part of my life for so long....but... unfortunately... I didn't get what I hoped for.. my meal was worse than it had been ever since..sauce had too much water, noodles overcooked, no seasoning, hardly any artichoke, chicken was gross. A big disappointment!!! I loved that place so much.. and now, I just could not imagine ever eating there again!! . its very sad... I held every friday there, every birthday there and every special occasion there.. it used to be so good.. Now, not so much!!!

Oh and I cant forget to write this... how many places do you go nowadays that dont give you free refills on sodas?? Not sure if they give free refills now , but even in 2006 they still did not give refills and their glasses are so small!! Not being picky.. but being honest... l

(I will say this though... Their BREAD IS STILL AMAZING!!!!! thats the only reason why I gave them a 2 star!!)

Beware the pumpers. – The food at Cafe Allegro is terrible. You can do better Italian from a can of Chef Boyardee. (Beware of online reviewers pumping this place and do not be lured in.)

Our dinner was remarkably tasteless, served luke-warm, and bearing no resemblance to the dish's namesake. Service was mediocre, as though the waitstaff shared our desire to be somewhere else. Our table was in a hallway....

No, we didn't ask to be re-seated or to have them take the food back, just wanted out. Hopefully this unsolicited review will spare others a similar experience.

Routinely leave in a better mood – **update to someone's post on 2/22**

People are going to have different tastes. I am NOT affiliated with Cafe Allegro and the posting made after mine almost made me feel as though I was being accused of such.

I returned to Cafe Allegro on the evening of 2/23, and had my usual Smoked Salmon. I don't honestly know the techniques behind their preparation, but I've never had a problem.

I walked into Cafe Allegro for the first time in 2001 when working for a small Internet provider down the street. I actually remember the place smelling pretty good, I could certainly smell red wine and onions going at some point. My first time in a restaurant, I usually keep it simple and go with something that looks non-threatening. :)

I chose the smoked salmon fettucini, and it has since become a routine order for me. The creamy white wine sauce was not too heavy, the mushrooms were fresh & tender, and yet I can still feel the "impact" of the smoked salmon. They even add more garlic to my order as I've always been a garlic snob. :-)

I have ordered it so much that I no longer look at the menu. I now have a "usual."

I have also had success ordering various different pizzas, and indeed the calzone is a treat!

I gave myself a one month break from Cafe Allegro, but that was over as of today! As a matter of fact, I'm having my smoked salmon fettucini as we speak. :-)

Not what it used to be – I never write reviews but my experience at Cafe Allegro recently inspired me to warn people that this place isn't what it used to be. First of all, when an Italian place you expect to smell food-especially garlic. It was instantly noticeable that you didn't smell the aroma of food cooking. Then when the food came it was obvious-the stuff was precooked and reheated. I order fettucini alfredo with chicken and got chicken cubes instead of a sliced chicken breast. My wife ordered a chicken and sausage rissotto and got the same chicken cubes-which were coincidently dried out. Furthermore, the place was too cold to take off your jacket. This place used to be a great little place but I will not go back again. The food was simply bland and obviously cooked well ahead of our arrival.

Great flavors, awesome portions – I live near enough I can walk there. My hands-down favorite are the calzones! Too many times, I've been stiffed by the fancy Italian joints that sell too much ambience, and too little food. Nothing is worse than dropping fifty bucks for a meal and then needing to eat on the way home.

At Cafe Allegro, they serve up a generous-sized calzone, at a price a regular working joe like me can afford. Too, the atmosphere is relaxed, the place is clean, and the staff are efficient and friendly.

Just ok – Used to be "the place", I hear. Tigard isn't known for it's large Italian population and this restaurant is very American. Food is ok, wine list is not great and service tries. It's one of those places you drop into when making a Home Depot run, or something like that. They would really benefit from sprucing up the menu (offering contemporary dishes) and improving the wine list to offer some more upscale choices (but keep them cool in the cellar). Nothing special...

Bland Overpriced Food – Went to Cafe Allegro last night, thought I would try some pasta. Big mistake. First of all, what's up with the tasteless salad dressing? Had to add bluecheese crumbles to give it some flavor, also why so many bad crouton's on top? So much for the salad, onto the next mess. I ordered the linguine with tomatoes and parmesan cheese, lacked any flavor at all. I personally have never had any good pasta here, I only order the salmon dish wich is always good. Last night, I came here because I was too tired to go anywhere else. I guess I only go this place because it is close to my house. Cafe Allegro, please learn how to season food.

Editorial Review by Mary Morley – Intimate, bistro-style restaurant in Old Town Tigard offers Italian dishes ranging from basic sandwiches and pizzas to stuffed filet of beef.

I can't wait to take my friends here! – Rather than enduring an unending midday traffic jam on the 99W, I took a serendipitous turn and discovered this charmingly modest place. Not knowing what to expect, I entered this little eatery whereupon I was kindly greeted by a decidedly handsome host.

The restaurant is a clean and simple establishment with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was noticeably neat and tidy, and squeaky clean, themselves.

Lovely, unobtrusive music enhanced the feeling of being hidden away from the hustle and bustle of midday downtown Tigard. I felt transported to a faraway restful place as I perused an impressive menu with even more impressive prices. Very affordable!

The caprese salad is astonishingly beautiful with its stacked presentation, and its simple bold flavor; a good primer for a number of entree selections on the menu.

The food was as pleasing to the palette as to the eye, and each course was timed perfectly. The waiter was attentive, and the chef is gifted. I also enjoyed the crayons and paper provided on the table. Other patrons seemed to be having an enjoyable experience as well.

I recommend this place to anyone!

The Worst Italian Restaurant on The Face of The Planet! – and that is being nice... This review might sound like I am rambling... but I am still utterly shocked as to how bad this place was. Let's get one thing straight. I understand. There is a difference between Italian and Italian-American. So, I put that aside and decided, okay fine.. this is Italian American. Here are the things that should have caught my eye before I sat down:

1) Empty Dining Room

2) Kraft Style Parmesan on the table

3) Pasta w/ red sauce piled on top @ the one table that had two people on it

4) Bread & *butter* on the table

It just got worse. The menu was terrible. Under Italian Staples, or favorites, or whatever they called it... were items such as Fettucine Alfredo and Spaghetti with Meatballs.

Then we have pasta sautee's. What is the deal with green onions? How many dishes with green onions could you possible have?

The closest hope I had to anything descent was peppered chicken fettucine with Marsala. It came with red sauce piled on top... not mixed up. The pasta was overcooked (not close to al dente) and there was way to much flavoring attempts going on.

The olive oil was stale tasting. The only descent food items were the bread and the tiramisu, which I am not sure if it was all that good, but compared to everything else I had, it was amazing. On a scale of 1-10, with never having 10 before... although I have had a 9, and I can easily make a 7 myself.. this Tiramisu was about a 5.

Don't waste your time or your money.
