Best dress-shopping experience EVER – I was a bit anxious about shopping for my wedding gown. I'm not young, I'm not skinny, and I was operating on a limited budget - all things that create snooty disdain in bridal consultants.
From the moment my friend and I arrived, it was a great experience. We were early for my appointment, but someone greeted us, gave us a tour of the shop, and made herself available for our questions while we browsed. The selection was incredible, and the sample sale was the best I have ever seen. A lot of bridal shops have a "sample sale" that consists of a couple dozen gowns at 10 or 20% off - not Charlotte's! Most of my favorites were 75% off.
Once I started trying things on, I knew I was in good hands. Suzanne was fantastic! She was energetic, creative, and genuinely excited about my mission for the perfect gown. She told me about all of the ways that the gowns could be altered, and had great ideas for accessorizing. She didn't care in the least that I was mostly looking at the sale gowns, either.
So I found the perfect gown, had a custom veil ordered, and the search was over. My impression of Charlotte's is that they are true professionals who really care about their brides. I highly recommend them!
Horrible Customer Service – As the bride, I purchased my dress along with all of my bridesmaids and attendants dresses (11 total) and the pocket squares and ties for our groomsmen at Charlotte's. The consultant ordered my dress in the wrong size and when it arrived (a few weeks late), not only was it the wrong size (too small), the train was not removed (which I had paid for), the extra length was not added and the straps were missing. I purchased the dress during a trunk show and was not given the trunk show discount (until I brought it to their attention that I was overcharged). They were unable to get me a new dress, the correct dress, in time for the wedding (although I'm not sure that they even attempted to do so).
After spending several thousand dollars at the store, I was not given any discount for any of the issues. (Nor did they pay for my months of alterations, which consisted of a complete "restyling" of the dress in order to make it fit.)
The owner, Krysta, actually tried to overcharge me twice, which I had to bring to her attention and didn't offer to refund any money at any point.
Mistakes happen, and this was a situation where multiple mistakes were made. Unfortunately, Charlotte's did not act with integrity and provide acceptable customer service. It was all about the bottom line for them. This was appalling and unacceptable.
(My paperwork was also lost several times throughout the process, which made extra work for all of our attendants.) I would not recommend this vendor in any capacity.
Went shopping to Dunedin to cute little shops like Darling Memories,Amanda Austin and Rose Garden. Everyone in these shope were nice and welcoming. I wanted to end my shopping experience with a nice cup of Java.
Whe I walked to Cappucino's Bakery...I saw a couple of customers and once person working behind the counter so I decided to sit and but my bags down. When I sat on the counter...the lady working there didn't aknowledge me but I figure she was alone so I didn't take it personally. Since I really was craving my cup of Java I decided to patiently wait. After taking the order from customers she went to the back and dissapeared for 20 minutes.
At this point I really needed to go to the bathroom. When she came of to serve the people I asked if she can buzz me to the bathroom and she ignored me. I asked again and she SHOUTED at me and I saw a mean lady looking at me. She yelled"don't you see that I'm working alone here...if you need a public bathroom there's one around the corner". I metioned to her that I was a potential customer and I have been patient by waiting 20 minutes and she didn't have to yell at me and send me to a public bathroom. I've had my bags here and that she shouldn't abuse me for no reason.
After that...she yelled at me again and told me that I should leave her shop. SHe mentioned that she was the owne and I was shocked and couldn't believe that she was being so cruel to me for no apparent reason. She basically was taking out her job or personal frustrations on me. I was really shocked and like any women with some integrity I defended my case....and tol her that she was very cruel and bitter and that this is no way to treat a customer who has been patiently waiting. She then did the ultimate...she called the cops so they can escort me for no reason. Since it was so unfair...I figured I would wait and explain my side of the story to the cops...that I was basically waiting 20 minutes for a cup of Java and to use the bathroom and this lady was just cruel with me for no apparent cause...just being abusive towards me from her personal frustrations.
I decided to leaven and not let her ruin the wonderful experience I had with other merchant owners in the area. I saw her as being cruel, catty and bitter and left without take in it personally.
I have travelle all over the world and come from a family of restaurant owners and I ive that the owner of Cappuccino's Bakery a 0 out of 10 rating for cruelty, abuse, and and hateful energy. Have a spirit lady...it's Xmas. She is a lady Scroodge.
If you are visiting Dunedin...stay away if you are happy, attractive and fairly young because this witch will hate on you and give you ill treatment. She represents the haters of the world who hate the happy, sexy, beautiful and cheerful young women. STAY AWAY from the abuse. Oh by the way I saw she did the same to a customer on a Yahoo Travel Review....this MErchant will give Dunedin a bad name.
No need to look anywhere else for your dress – My experience at Charlotte’s exceeded all expectations. Charlotte’s was the first place I went to start my dress shopping. I hadn’t had much time to look online, so I went into my first appointment with no particular style in mind. From the moment I nervously walked into Charlotte’s I was treated like I was the most important person. I was so happy that I was able to find my dress, bridesmaid dresses, sash, groomsmen ties and many other accessories. My bridal consultant was patient and encouraged me to shop around to make sure my dress was the one. Every other bridal store I went to, I compared it to my experience at Charlotte’s and none of them came close.
Every visit, phone call or e-mail my questions were answered efficiently and I was treated with professionalism, which made me very happy. It was so helpful to find everything all in one place. The large private rooms were also an added bonus!
Best Bridal Store for Wedding & Bridesmaid Dresses – Experience at Charlotte’s: Fantastic – Calming – Wonderful
After our wedding, I sent Charlotte’s a little thank you note of appreciation. My whole experience at the store was nearly perfect. My mother and I had been all over Portland at different wedding dress salons and ‘shops’ and were disappointed. When we arrived at Charlotte’s, it was pretty magical. We walked through the front door and there were chocolate covered strawberry’s (weekends only I think). Then, there was Oneida who immediately greeted us at the door with a smile(this was not something the other salons did). She then introduced us to the lovely Lauren who took such great care of us. After describing to Lauren what type of dress I had in mind, she came back with two dresses and the second dress was the one that I ended up purchasing that same day! Additionally, Lauren actually sketched (yes, a really nice drawing) of the alterations that I wanted. Her find was particularly miraculous because most of the wedding dresses this past season were all strapless. I was worried that I would not be able to find a dress with straps. Lauren is a genius because her measurements were nearly perfect. This transitions into my wonderful experience with seamstress extraordinaire Lorraine. She took such good care of me, not only for my wedding dress alterations (which were minor thanks to Lauren’s precise measurements) but also with my bridesmaids dresses.
What I liked most about working with Charlotte’s: The staff are courteous and thoughtful ~
Everyone at Charlotte’s made me feel like my time was valuable. Even when they were going through a re-model, they made sure that my appointments with Lorraine would not be impacted. The staff always called and emailed me to tell me the status of my wedding and bridesmaids dresses. They made me feel like I was a valuable customer. Honestly, Charlotte’s is like the Nordstrom’s of Wedding Dress Salons! Plus, the owner Krysta McLaughlin is the sweetest person and the way she interacts with her staff is awesome. I felt really good about supporting a local, small, female-owned, Northwest business.
We got ALL our dresses at Charlotte's. I adore the entire staff.
I love Charlottes! – I started my wedding dress shopping at Charlottes. I went there first because a friend had mentioned her great experience with them. My appointment was with Suzanne who was fantastic! I felt like she adapted her consulting style to me and my group and my needs. I brought my mom, my mother in law and my sister to the appointment. We were put in a very nice private room together which was fun. I showed Suzanne a few pictures of dresses I liked and I told her my budget. She pulled several gowns and we were a well oiled machine. Suzanne was very quick which I appreciated. I was in and out of gowns very fast. If it wasn't perfect, she was pulling it off of me. This allowed me to try on tons of dresses and find exactly what I was looking for. I believe she was keeping a mental list of what I liked about each dress and what I didn't like. She was so focused. She clearly knows the dress stock and how to narrow the selection based on the feedback you give her when trying on dresses. Towards the end of the appointment I had found a gown I loved. An amazing ball-gown with pockets!
My group and I went around town that weekend to a few other dress shops. The other shops couldn't hold a candle to the customer service and attention I got at Charlottes. I felt like a bride at Charlottes. At other stores in the area, they make you feel like just another customer. I felt special at Charlottes. I went back to Charlottes at the end of the weekend and tried on THE dress again. I was in love. I purchased my dress, the veil that Suzanne had put me in at the original appointment, bridesmaids dresses and flower girl dresses from Charlottes. I was so happy with all of the staff. When you call or stop in they are so warm and friendly and are genuinely excited for you. As a bride it is so much fun to have people around you that are happy and excited for you and your wedding.
I would strongly recommend booking your dress appointment with Charlottes as soon as possible.
Bonus - I was invited to a few of there special events which was very fun. One of the events was with local vendors. I was able to get a free hair and makeup trial with a local studio at the event. It really helped me gain insight into what I wanted for my wedding day look. Another bonus, they just remodeled the store and it looks fantastic.

I went to seemingly every bridal shop in Portland, Salem, and Keizer. Charlotte's was the only place that treated me like a bride.
My family and I had a private room with personal one-on-one service. My consultant matched my price point and she was so wonderful to work with.
I walked out of Charlotte's with the dress of my dreams and it didn't stop there. The customer service is exceptional beyond ordering your dress. You don't have to worry about mix ups or mistakes because their staff takes great care of each bridal party. I recieved phone calls verifying changes and status updates on everything that was happening. They took initiative so it was one less phone call I had to make.
Please don't miss out by going to large distributors that you think will give you a better price. I did that first but thank goodness I went to Charlotte's and got a quality dress with impressive service for the same price as the other places.
So call for an appointment- you won't be disappointed!
Made me a princess! – My friend and I went into Charlotte's for an appointment during the sample sale. Our girl Rene took us to our private suite, asked me all kinds of questions about my preferences and brought me a gorgeous array of dresses. She even brought me a dress in a fabric I didn't think I liked to make sure we could really cross it off my list. We had a lot of fun together, she helped me feel like a princess, and I walked out the door with a dress... on my first day of looking as well! I hope to take my bridesmaids back for their dresses as well. I have every belief that they will take as good of care as my bridesmaids as they took of me. (unlike experiences I've had at the big box bridal store).
The only con was we had to take our shoes off and leave them at the front... my friend and I had a SATC moment and recalled the episode when Carrie lost her shoes at the party... thankfully that didn't happen to us, but I wasn't super excited about taking off my shoes at the front, though I probably could have taken them with me. ANd really, it was for the protection of the dresses, so it wasn't exactly a con.
Some advice ladies... – There are a few things you should know about Charlotte's before you go...
Bring pictures of gowns you're interested in and keep an open mind about what style will suit you.
Make an appointment about two days ahead and ask for Suzanne. She made everyone feel very comfortable and seemed to be as excited about my wedding as I was!
Bring your own slip and strapless bra. One of the drawbacks was the icky thing with belly button sweat on it that they asked me to wear. You may politely say "No thank you" to that and wear your own.
Remain calm. Although the staff is there to help you get the dress of your dreams, they are not your maids, therapists, or magicians. Treat them as you would like to be treated. Be nice.
I did go to a few other shops in the area with a general idea of what I wanted and what I was willing to spend. Reading all of the reviews on here made me a little nervous about going to this shop, but upon our scheduled arrival, we were greeted by two members of the staff very warmly and were politely asked to remove our shoes. The carpet is soft, so don't worry. We were brought back to the big dressing room in the back where there are several chairs, an enormous mirror, and a pedestal to twirl around on. After studying the clippings I brought in with me, Suzanne produced three gowns that seemed to be gorgeous hybrids of all of the ones I was looking for. I ended up getting the second one I tried on! The only negatives I had with this experience were these... The try-on undergarments are pretty gross, I think they should have a screen in the rooms where you can change into them (unless you 're really comfortable with your friends and family), and I would have liked it if they gave me a courtesy call about the status of the dress every once in a while while I was waiting for it to arrive. Overall I had a good experience and I would recommend this shop to my friends.
They went out of their way to help me! – I unfortunately was the victim of another bridal shop that went out of business without taking care of their customers. The people at Charlotte's worked with me to contact the manufacturer and try to get my the dress - even though they don't carry that brand! After that fell through because of the other store and the manufacturer, I decided to get a new dress and start fresh. Charlotte's went out of their way to help me find a dress that I loved and could get in time for the wedding. The new dress was even better than the first! I felt like a princess the day that it arrived and everyone came in to see me in my gown. I would highly recommend Charlotte's to anyone!
