Great Food, Fun atmosphere – We frequent this fun cantina, especially since they added the fabulous outdoor dining area. The food is always consistant, the service is fast especially if Randy is serving you great guy with a good sense of humor... you always feel that everyone is happy to see you and want to make it a great dining experience for you.
Whether you are there for a quick drink and some appetizers or a delicious mexican dinner....it's a very casual fun place to eat.
Not worth your dollar!!! – On a Friday night, it sounded like a great idea to grab a drink and a Fajita. Not too hungry but a bit of mexican sounded great at the moment. Well, don't go to Sandovals if you are either really hungry because the portions are the size of a kids' menu and if you want to share a dish, they charge you $2 for an extra "saucer" size plate. Who does that? No extra side dishes of food or splitting of the dish, but an additional small plate for that extra cost!
My daugter's food came 15 minutes before ours and I was told that it was from the cook dropping our food in the kitchen. I should have known to walk out then!! If they are that cheap, do you think they made fresh food for us or used the 5 second rule?
Don't let the proximity of the place fool you because a little extra driving will be so worth it.
They have extra charges for the plate and for tortillas. I have NEVER been to a mexican place that charges you for extra tortilla.
At this time and age, I am shocked that they are still in business. If it does not make it, I want to be there to say, "I told you so..."
New fish tacos + Cadillac margarita = 100% fun – I frequent many Mexican restaurants in the greater PDX area always looking for the perfect fish taco dish and must say that the new ones at Sandolvals are spot on. I was content with the previous selection of Salmon tacos, but was recently made aware of the new Rock fish tacos and must say they are to die for. I recommend asking for the spicy version which are very flavorful. These tacos paired along with a fresh tasting Margarita will put a smile on anyones face. Also, my husband really loves sipping tequila and on our last visit we were introduced to a new brand CORZON by our handsome server Javier. He showed us what seemed to be around 30-40 different tequilas, what a variety!!
In summation, the naysayers have a right to express their opinions, but as for us (true regular customers) the food, drink, and service are always top notch!!!
Sandovals is NOT A GOOD PLACE TO EAT OR HANG OUT – I felt insulted by the Sandoval's experience.
That this place stays open is purely amazing. Must be the location and the fact that they have no competition for miles in the greasy chip and microwaved cheese and kool-aid margarita game.
I have been here with my family, alone and for take-out- the food is consistently weak, has no flavor and is made with low quality ingredients. Read the other reviews about the quality of their drinks.
The salsa is "ok" but that is the only thing worth mentioning.
What really makes Sandoval a place to avoid is the service. They literally ignore you unless you are obviously spending for a huge dinner with a huge party.
Do not bother. Its places like Sandoval's that chip away at your soul and ruin the reputation of all restaurants.
Horrible Service!!!! – I have never written a review on a restaurant before, but after having such a bad experience, I felt compelled to tell other people. First of all, I decided to check out the happy hour at Sandoval's, and save a few bucks. When I asked the hostess where the bar was located, she stared at me blankly and just walked away. She spoke to another lady, who eventually came over and directed me to the bar. I thought that was a little strange, but whatever. After sitting at the bar for a few minutes, the bartender asked what I would like to drink. When I told him that I would like a Diet Coke, he looked disappointed. He then brought me a menu, and when I asked where the happy hour menu was, he pointed to the wall behind me. They didn't have much as far as food selection, so I chose the bean and cheese burrito. While I was waiting for my burrito to arrive, I munched on some chips and salsa. The salsa was actually quite good. However, my burrito wasn't very warm. Taste wise, I could have done better myself. Throughout my meal, the bartender never refilled my drink, nor did he ask how my food was. He looked busy watching the basketball game. After being finished for at least 5 mins, I still hadn't received my bill, so I sat my card on the bar. He finally came over to take my payment after about another 5 mins. Never once did he ask how my food was or anything. Needless to say, he didn't receive a tip, and I won't be coming back.
Sorry West-side Excuse for a Mexican Restaurant! – This place is a sorry West-side excuse for a Mexican restaurant. I was there once on cinco de mayo and had an awful experience. Food took about 40 minutes (one dish 50 min), was mediocre at best, and server was short and rude. Cheese was not melted on entrees, generic SYSCO ingredients, and never take anyone seriously again if they suggest the margaritas at this place!. It was to the point where we were ready to ask the server to speak with the manager, when we realized, our server was the manager!
We decided that we needed to give it another shot on a day that was not a Mexican holiday because of the proximity to home. Round 2: we had a really nice and polite server. However, he was young and not experienced. He told us we could order margaritas quickly to get the ?Happy Hour? price. So we did and shared two pitchers of margaritas (which are not even good, or strong, and have moldy salt) between 5 people. Sure enough the bill comes around and the 2 pitchers total over $42! No happy hour price. We talk to the manager, and he also does not honor a happy hour price and is extremely rude.
I just expect the owner to have some type of personality or customer service!
Do not go here, go to a typical Mexican restaurant in Beaverton or NW Portland if you live in this area.
Best margaritas in town....definitely!! – I have read the previous rants about how this place's margaritas are not that great, and I must say I totally disagree. The last thing they are is watered down. I am very observant and have noticed that a half lime is freshly squeezed, then a healthy pour of Tequila (about a 5-6 count) the triple sec (about a 3 count) then about a 2-3 count margarita mix. And that is how I always see them do it...and they aren't $8 but $7, and they are definitely worth it. Their arroz con pollo soup is the bomb as well...this is something my wife and I always order on Sunday mornings after a previous fun night out. The combination of rice, pulled chicken breast, clear broth, red onions, fresh diced jalapenos and sliced avocado and a lime wedge really get you back on track. I highly recommend this place for a great time.
I'm Torn – I'm torn about this place. My partner and I have gone there on several occasions and after the first visit we quickly decided NEVER to order their margaritas again. At $8 each, you expect a little . . . I don't know . . . tequila! But instead our drinks were just watered-down glasses of margarita mix. We also ordered the salmon tacos (which they're supposedly "known" for) and the spicy ground beef tacos. The salmon tacos were nothing special at all - would never order them again. But their spicy ground beef tacos are absolutely THE BEST. So we have found ourselves going back there repeatedly - but only for the spicy ground beef tacos. So I guess my opinion is . . . spicy ground beef tacos - YES! The rest of the place . . . mediocre at best.
Three strike rule – Sandoval's on Miller is very convenient, and we assumed would be the average Mexican fare like its sister restaurant in Beaverton - wrong. The food was below average, the tamale was terrible. The waitstaff was inattentive, the margaritas tasted like koolaid. Don't go three times hoping it will get better - it doesn't.
Awesome margaritas? UGH! PLEASE! – iF if you like margaritas made from a super sweet mix and a spash of cheap tequila this is the place for you! And I can get better tacos from a cart! For $1.00-$1.50! Would FRESH cilantro be too much to ask? The carnitas chunks were too big. Flavorless. For equal price, Baja Fresh has better tacos.
