Beware vegetarians! sandoval's knowingly puts chicken stock in their "vegetarian burritos"! On 3 occasions I was served a "vegetarian burrito" at the PDX location before I found out that they use chicken stock in their rice. When I approached the management about this they did not respond. When I told the Port of Portland, sandoval's sent someone to talk to me. I expressed to them that they were false advertising, and that it was morally wrong to trick someone into eating something that they did not want to eat. I further explained that if someone had an alergy- this could be a lawsuit. Finally, I asked them to either change the menu and remove the rice from the "vegetarian burrito" or change the stock they use to veggie stock. Simple, HUH? It's been two years since then... I stopped in the other day to ask if they still use chicken stock... no change... No new menu... thousands of potential vegetarians being cheated out of their choice... These people are low... real low... Kind of makes you wonder what else they're not telling you.
Last Chance – Well it's the 5th of May so I decided celebrate with some Mexican food. I was at the Airport so I went to Sandoval's. Sign say special "Ground Beef Burrito $3.99 w/drink. Now I know the food here is a little bland (NO Flavor) but it's a holiday and I'm in the spirit. I asked the girl at the counter if this is just like the regular burrito but with me she says yes and I took the bait. I watched as the guy made my burrito. Meat, rice, beans and then he starts to wrap it up.I asked what about the cheese. He says the special does not come with cheese. I said I will pay extra!!! He says the special does not come with cheese. I said I will pay extra!!! and the counter girl says the "special does not come with cheese." I went to another resteraunt and they gave me some cheese for my burrito. Who makes a burrito without cheese. Last time I go there!
Great tasting Mexican food and great service! – My wife and I were out of town and looking for a quick meal. We ended up having a nice evening with some nice people. The nice people were the staff. We tried our limited Spanish on them. They were not to busy to spend some time with us and make us feel comfortable in a strange place. A few laughs helped by the margaritas (you gotta try them-the best I have ever had) and the food arrived.
I had chile relenos. Light , cheesy and a little smokey from the pepper. I loved it!
My wife had the prawn tacos. She insisted I help her, too much for her to finish. The shirmp were plump and juicy, really sweet! I have never tasted prawns like these.
I wish they had a Sandoval's near Seattle.
Could try harder to be better – It would be nicer to eat in a cleaner, fresher space. This dull outlet of rehashed Ameri-Mexican food lacks luster. Spotty service and a less than professional staff leave one wondering why they didn't go to Chipotle. The prices reinforce that sentiment. Just because it's the only place to get a beer doesn't mean it isn't worth the drive dowtown or to Beaverton.
Likes: the ownership is amiable, if stupid.
Dislikes: Sanitation, quality, ability to get the order right.
I wouldn't go back, thank you.
Never again – There is no excuse for a place this bad. I agree with all of the other bad reviews. I would never write a bad review unless I truly felt it was deserving.
Sandovals is TERRIBLE! Top Ramon is better! RUN!!!!!! – My wife an I got food poisoning from sharing the same dish! We were up all night extremely ill. I went in 2 days after and notified the staff to ensure no one else would fall ill. Was told a manager would call me. 2 weeks later, nothing. I called the staff for a second time and they could care less. I am an executive that can not afford to miss several days from work due to poor cleanliness and standards. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I would not eat here for anything!!!!!!!! Diner be ware!
Horrible--- Will never go back – Will never go back - was treated rudely after very poor service, and sub standard food. Order was wrong, Margaritas were terrible. Nothing about this was good. The owner was so rude - will not return, and needed to warn others. We live close to the one in Beaverton / Murray Hills, and could have made it a regular place - but there's no excuse for such rude behavior. We would have thought there would be some effort to rectify problem.... but apparently not. Customer service is dead here.
wonderful food – We can start from the beginning...The service was awesome, well deserving of a 30% tip. Next, the chips and salsa are an important part to a mexican dinner, and they did not let me, nor my family down. Each entree ordered was absolutely to die for. Don't let me forget about the drinks, well, i need not say much other than perfect!
Consistently Great Food – We are a neighborhood family that consistently eats at Sandovals. We love the food because it's prepared in a fresh, healthy style, and is consistently tastes great. Try the tortilla soup or tacos el carbon. We count on the fresh home made tortillas, salsa and guacamole. This is not a fast food joint, but a quality restaurant that puts care into their meals.
Incredible Mexican Food – What sets Sandovals aside from all other mexican restaurants other than their delicious entres is their dedication to freshness. It shows in all of their dishes, my personal favorite is the chile verde burrito. They slow cook the meat in their special sauce for hours and when it is all wrapped up in a hot off the press flour tortilla..... there is nothing better.
