For the price the food is no where up to standard. The service was attentive, but unprofessional. – When I pay anywhere from $25 to $65 dollars for a plate of food and I'm taking another couple out to dinner, I want us all to be loving the food. That was not the case. It was extremely fair, but I want better then fair. The only comment made that night were polite comments, to not be rude, like "nice atmosphere" or "it's good. We made reservations days in advance, and we were given a table next to where the servers ring up their checks. I'm looking around wondering why people eat there, and what was on my mind was either, "it was there first time there too, or they haven't been to very many great restaurants." Or is it because Ringside's past reputation? I'm sorry to say, that I was just not impressed. I love restaurants and I almost always love what they do, but I just had to write a review, which is not even in my nature, because I don't what someone else to be disappointed. I hope this helps someone have a better experience when they are trying to say thank-you to some ones they care about and want to create a "moment" or have a special occasion.
We had some kind of deal from my husband work for a 20% off on the entire meal, which I slipped with the credit card when I paid. Then the waiter made a announcement when he got back to the table about the discount that was taken off on the check...... so lame and unprofessional for an older gentleman in a tux. When do people learn how to act? OK, I think I have made my point.... really this place is not what you want for a special occasion.
Greatest food in Portland! – This was my first time in Portland and went to the Ringside for my birthday dinner. I had the chicken breast balsamico and it was the GREATEST chicken I've ever had and will probably ever have!!! everyone elses food was spectacular as well. Just some drawbacks.....the service was friendly but the waiter took a VERY long time with everything and we barely saw him throughout the meal. We had a reservation at 9:30pm, so by the time we got there, the restaurant was pretty much cleared out. We were also never given the wine list until after the dinner was over with and we were given the dessert menu with the wine list on the other side. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!
Traditional steak bistro serves hefty fare complemented by formal service. – In Short
This dimly lit bistro provides hearty fare in its heavy-brick dining room with cozy tables, a blazing fireplace and tuxedoed service. Diners sample its legendary crisp, thick-sliced onion rings with house dipping sauce and its signature baked sweet onion soup with Gruyere cheese. The bone-in New York steak is 20 ounces. Side it with sweet corn casserole or béarnaise asparagus. Leave room for decadent chocolate-mousse silk pie with a candied almond crust and chocolate ganache.
Great for a special occasion – When ever we have something to celebrate we go to Ringside. It has that special occasion feel and is not any more expensive then the restuarants we usually go to. It is also a great place for an office lunch if you don't want to deal with the downtown hassle. The waiters are very professional and remind me of European waiters who have the job for life.
GREAT STEAK - SUPERB WINE – We went in with some friends for the first time - WOW! The steaks were awesome and we enjoyed the HUGE selections of wines (priced quite low for a steakhouse). We simply had a great time. It was good to see that there are a few places in town that do an outstanding job, have professional servers, and provide real value vai an exemplary dining experience. We'll be back ...
overpriced golfcourse restraunt – 10 years ago the ringside east was one of the best in town. Lost is the casual atmosphere that has been replaced by tuxido dressed waiters, a high priced a al cart mene that will easily run $60 a plate and a snobish atmosphere. I went expecting the old ringside that had great food and service at a resonable price. Apperantly they are now trying to cater to the a yuppi crowd. Save your money. Go to costco and buy some ribeyes and grill them at home. You'll have as good of a steak at a great price without some tuxido clad old waiter making you feel under dressed.
Yum! – I was taken to the Ringside for my birthday and had a great time. I noticed most people eating there were on the heavy side, and I figured them to be return patrons because the menu is none to slimming, but oh so tasty. I had the prime rib and onion soup. I went later for lunch and experienced the onion rings. I am so hungry right now!
Excellent Food AND Great SErvice – Although their steaks are great, it is the salads, the seafood dishes, and the service that makes this our favorite weekend escape from the kids!
Onion rings to die for – I love Ringside - great steaks, awesome onion rings (sooo addictive!), excellent service, and a great place for any occasion. If you're too full afterwards, you can take a nice stroll around the golf course on the 2-mile walking path.
Great Food and Service – One of the best meals I have ever had, the service was excellant and the food was cooked to perfection. Can't wait to return for another wonderful meal.
