The rousing atmosphere of Rose & Thistle during soccer (football?) matches reminds me of my bartending days in Edinburgh. The rustic Caledonian interior is as reminiscent of Scotland as the fish & chips and haggis on the menu--which is a late night blessing, available until the 2:30am bar close.

Lots of dark and cozy nooks and crannies, plenty of ales on tap, pretty darned good Scotch eggs, hefty burgers and a heated patio make this popular Scottish pub worth a stop, especially if your kilt (or worse, what's under it) is frozen stiff on a frigid winter’s night.

Rose and Thistle – I cannot say enough for both Bobby and Sandy and this great place to hang with friends, become part of the family, or just an occasional meal. I strongly recommend Bobby's Fish and Chips! Yum, Yum!

-------------------

We recently lost a very special person, Bobby passed away August 26th,2006.

Some say he was just a crotchity, cranky coot, opinionated. Well, ok we all said it! This was all part of Bobby's charm. He also had a lot of heart, he just didn't want anyone to see his softy side. He put everything on the 'table', always said it like it was. A world traveler, he could recall each and every trip in great detail as if he had just gotten home. He always had something extremely interesting to toss out for discussion, or told great jokes, depending on his mood.

Aw, and no one can flirt like Bobby! He even made an old 'broad' like me feel good.

Sandy, we all love you. These last few weeks have been so hard on you, more than any of us could ever understand.

You are a lady through and through. You are also a very special person.

God Bless and Guide You,

T

Pseudo Scots Bar. – If barmaids, waitresses, barmen back home in Scotland were as slow and unfriendly as this lot appear to be there would be no one in the pub at all, service was hopeless carried out by a sullen waitress and if your going to sell DRAUGHT beer (not DRAFT) at least learn to pour it,the smug big headed owner was a big turn off too.

Almost there – Atmosphere was semi-authentic and the food was far better than the fare in an actually Scottish or Irish pub. Could do some basic things to make it a better experience,

Make lifelong friends over haggis and a handshake at Oregon's only Scottish pub. – The Scene
Bagpipes, swords, plaid and all things Scottish adorn the walls of this Northeast pub. Find your clan's coat of arms, sample fine scotch, then test your skills at darts. The clientele is rich with regulars and newcomers sharing a love of banter and beer.

The Draw
A wise Scottish adage states "A drink is shorter than a tale." With the impressive selection of scotch and whiskey, there is no shortage for the longest of tales. The British Isles may be known for bland food, but for the true Scot, a steaming haggis will warm the soul to the hem of the kilt. For everyone else, a heaping plate of Bobby's Famous Fish and Chips (named after the owner) or a sinfully savory Scotch egg will suffice. Celebrate Scottish and Irish holidays with blaring bagpipes and bountiful imported beers such as the tasty McEwans IPA.

Attitude – The service was way below average at this pub. I thought it looked like a friendly pub, but I was mistaken. I am not sure why we had such snotty, rushed service as it was a Sunday and not busy. I think my husband and I were 10 times nicer to the server than they were to us. The drinks were weak and poorly made as well.

Great Place!!! – The first thing you feel when you walk in is welcome...Bobby and his staff are the best at hospitality. I chanced upon this place while trying to find shelter from the heat last July. Little did I know I would run into some of the best fare in Irvington, but also the best people. In an arae that can be somewhat "snooty" at times, this place holds the most down to earth, friendly folks-no matter what day or time you go. Thanks guys!

Food AND Games – This is a fantastic place to hang out on a HOT Portland day. Whether you prefer basking in the sun on the fabulous patio out back, complete with beer garden, or cooling your heels indoors with the AC and the quaint decor, this place is perfect. The food is good, the service better! Stay a while, and grab a game from the game shelf. We stayed for three hours, eating good food, unlimited iced tea, and playing Scrabble and darts. A hidden Portland treasure, visit today. And if Danielle is your waitress, be prepared for some top notch service!

Excellent service; food – If I had to pick one pub, this would be it. No pub or restaurant has treated our group (pdxfun.com) anywhere anywhere near royalty as do these people. A quaint Scottish pub on the east side of the Willamette, near the Lloyd Center mall. One of the finest pubs in Portland because of their consistently outstanding service and good food. This is the only Pub Night venue that has received a letter of gratitude from the Bergfreunde board of directors.
