Excellent service, friendly people, and they fixed my rifle quickly and professionally. In fact, I did not ask if it was under warranty, they did it on their own and repaired it for free. I will definitely recommend them to others.
This gun store appears to have a colorful history:
I have a Remington Model 700 that I sent to have a factory defect repaired. I went on line and found that Allison & Carey Gunworks was the factory repair shop. I sent the gun to Allison & Carey for the repair. Friday, April 27, 2012, an older person from Allison & Carey contacted my number and stated that the gun was out of the Remington warantee period and that the bolt locking lug problem would have to be checked out by a test. He was told that the person who answered my phone knew of the gun and not to do anything until they heard from me. This morning, Monday, Aril 30, 2012, I received a call from Allison & Carey that the gun was ready to be sent back and the cost was $77.50. I told the young man that no testing was authorized and that a second person over heard the Friday phone call and that no testing was authorized. The person from Allison & Carey said that he did not care whoh heard the conversation. He was informed that I am going to contact Remington about this dishonest business and that I will send several reviews proving Allison & Carey's dishonesty and corruption. They hungup one me.
worst gunsmith around – I had a rifle built to my specs off of a weatherby mark 5 action. I paid for a new douglas 28" barrel ($750), stock ($450), floorplate ($150) and trigger work. When i got the gun back it wouldnt even make a 100 yard group at all. I took it in and Jeff said he would shoot it himself and see. when i dropped it off i also ordered a leupold vx-3 cds model. The scope cost $575. Jeff called me a few weeks later and said it was done and that my rifle shot fine for him with factory ammo. I went to pick up my rifle and Jeff had left. The other older guy i spoke with was extremely sacastic with me the entire time and said they didnt have the paperwork for my scope which i was supposed to fill out and send back to leupold with my rifles specs so that they could build me my turret, nor do they have the box. They however made sure to charge me $50 to shoot and see why my gun wouldn't group. When i checked out the target that they had tested my gun on, i quickly realized that it was not at all a fine group but about the size of a softball. Unfortunatly i gave them the old barrel and stock off of my weatherby. I now have no paperwork for my new scope and i wil be calling leupold monday to see what can be done about whats been lost and also looking for a new gunsmith to finish the work on my rifle. The shorter older man that works there is one of the rudest people i have ever delt with in a bussiness establishment as i was very respectful although frustertated. Im very upset with myself for allowing them to even work on one of my guns and will never again go to A and C for anything!
Horrible service – This is the worst or the worst. A circus chimp could do a better job! Took my gun in for repair. The resident AH couldn't fix it. Avoid this place. Can't believe they are still in business.
Not Happy – I brought my Remington Spartan SPR 453 to A&C to have the left extractor replaced. I was told rather abruptly that they don't work on that gun. Funny, it says Remington on the side, and they are a Remington service cetner. And an extractor is an easy repair. Heck, I can buy the parts online.
They offered zero help in locating someone actually willing to take my money. I also had another gun requiring service, but after the way I was treated, I would rather melt it for scrap than have A&C do the work.
Worst experience at a gunsmith ever! – I have been to this place of business 2 times in the last 15 years and both times went away disapointed and fustrated, I am 50 years old and was raised with a gun in my hand and my father was a gun collector so we have a pretty good understanding of guns and their workings, and if you approach these employees with any sign that you are thinking of doing the work yourself they clam up like a bunch of mimes, the first time i went to these guys was when I had a new model 70 with a bad trigger pull and i mean bad, allison carey was the local rep for winchester warranty work so I took it in and asked if they could fix it they checked it and said it was within factory spec and would not be able to do anything under warranty but they suggested that for $40 they would polish the trigger mechanism so a couple weeks later since they were so busy when i showed up to pick up my gun they told me that they had to take the gun appart more than once to get the trigger right so the price ws now $70 I was not happy when i heard that the price had almost doubled without them talking to me but then i asked to see my gun and they said No!! not until you pay,,,Hows that for a way to treat you customers?
The next time i went was today i have shotgun trigger mechanism that i was cleaning after a hard season of duck hunting and got a little over zealous when shaking off the cleaning solvent and some thing flew off and was lost in the abiss of my garage. I went to allison carey again thinking it has to be better now right?
I asked the gentelman behind the counter if he could tell me what was missing and fully entended to hand it over for him to order parts and repair if he knew what was missing and a price. He told me after looking at it that he did not have a crystal ball and could not see through things so if i wanted to leave it for a minimum $45 they would look at it I was a little set back. I asked if he had a exploded view of the trigger assembly and he told me they are in business to make a living at gun repair and are not there for public information. i took the part and left and later that day talking to a friend he spoted what was missing and it was a part that was right on top and would have been obvious to a person that was in the gunsmithing business, i know he knew exactly what was wrong but would not tell me because he's in it for the money period and if your not paying he's not saying.
