great little bar – The Brick is a great little local bar and eatery. It's not a tourist trap at all. There are only locals there. The bouncer/doorman is a hoot. The food is great and fresh. The staff if very nice. The only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because the drinks are a little high priced. I mean this is Salem Oregon, not California. Overall, great place to hang out.
The Worst Experience of My Life – I lived in Salem for years and the Brick was always the place to go downtown for a tasty drinks and good service. I went in last night to meet some friends and had a friendly chat with the doorman as he checked my ID. I walked to the counter to order a drink, the first of the evening, and a server walked up to me, got in my face and told me that I needed to leave. She insulted me by telling me I walked into the bar I looked wierd and that I was too intoxicated. I hadn't had anything to drink. I tried to have a civil conversation with her and while I was calm and reasonable, she was rude and extremely disrespectful. The doorman than pushed me, forcefully out the door after she ordered him to throw me out. I'm a respectable looking, polite, young woman, and I was thrown out the front door. I've never been treated like that in my entire life. I had been wearing heels for close to ten hours and my feet hurt, this server made a judgement call without any interaction with me, and I was shoved out the door. I don't know why people think they can treat their customers like that. I feel violated by what happened to me. I intend to spread the word about this incident. I'm calling the manager this afternoon, but I thought everyone else should know.
Brick Wall – This place is a tourist trap (if that term even exists in Salem) and a totally overrated. Service has been spotty here and the food was no better than your average franchised bar food. Drink prices are a tad high, which should not really reflect on its prime downtown location. Don't bother coming here unless you really have no other choice.
Pleasantly Surprised – I'm still not sure why I was in Salem, nonetheless I was really happy with the Brick. The Brick is located right downtown and has a good selection of beers and food. There was a pretty good crowd and I found the people-watching to be pretty entertaining. Nice group of people overall...
