I worked there as Maintenance, Maid 5 years – I miss the old time tenants

Worked in 1991-1996 - 7 days a week as maintenance 6:30 AM -3:00 PM, and lock up at 5PM and put trash out a 10 P.M., on call 7 nights. $5.00 hr. then $7.00 the last year and a half. Got rent reduction for my room after about 1 1/2 years, then finally free room, then rent again, then free room again last 2 years.

I was doing EVERYTHING except taking rents. Doing part of the maid's (Nancy (Kalie? Halie?) at the time) work since she was paid for 5 hours day but only worked 1-2 hours day for years! She is now Manager?! Old owner (Richard Tipton) must have sold the business and new owner not know her history!

Toward the end too many people with mental health problems were moving in and it became very dangerous. I was told I was too honest. Constant harassment from Nancy, forcing me to work without windows open for fresh air as she sprayed ammonia and poured bleach in sinks. A suspect serial killer moved in and Nancy told the police hoping to get the reward but never told me they were living next door to me! (Barbara Gibbons told me, thank God!) This was after I stood guard and protected Nancy when she had to make the bed in a Rapist room. The rapist was recently out of jail for raping a hotel maid and beating people with a baseball bat.

My job also became security guard, first aid emergency, very high stress. Too many scary, unbelievable things went on! I finally quit the job and moved out. I truely miss alot of the tenants but this experience really happened! If you work there, if anything goes wrong, things go missing... you will be blamed, 'the scapegoat'.

Keep a chain with a padlock on your door so you can pull 2 chains together and lock the padlock on the door when you go out. I witnessed 'other workers' ... sneak into a nice lady tenants room and go thourgh her draws... when she was at work. They also tried to steal 10 thousand dollars from a 102 Yr. old lady 'Virginia Ogden'. She had $5000.00 in her room and $5000.00 in the office. Management, assistants would not give her her money! Waiting for her to die. I alerted Social Services when manager was on vacation in Reno and they took the $5000.00 out of her room and got $4000.00 from the manager when she returned. (Manager proudly said she kept $1000.00) Social worker placed Virginia into a better home and gave her the $9000.00 which she happily gave to her son. She was saving this money for years for her son. Do not work here!! After this I had to move, workers knew I helped Virginia and I feared for my safety. Was told they were thinking of planting drugs in my room and calling police. They made friends with a drug dealer on 3rd floor, violent guy, he got 2 people on heroin, one died. They still let him live there because he had 50 thousand dollars and alot of cash in his room.

If you can stay to yourself, not be witness to anything, keep your door with extra lock, alarm... its a nice place to live. I loved it until I worked there. They also made me

Residential – Everyone that comes here lives here, this isn't a tourist hotel at all. People change their residential address to here, get cable in their room, the works! Nancy the manager is as nice as can be and will help you in any way that she can. The housekeeper will bring you two fresh towels, one roll of toilet paper, fresh bedding once a week. There is 4 bathrooms per floor and 32 bedrooms per floor and somehow I still have never had to wait for a restroom once! It is a very friendly environment, people say hello to you as you pass them in the lobby or hallway. There is an elevator. You have your own mailbox. The rent is VERY affordable considering the rents in the area to live even in a studio alone is twice as much. You are two blocks for two bus lines and a short bus ride to the BART or Caltrain. Everything you could ever need is right around the corner on Grand Ave and I mean everything! The only time I really leave the area is to go to the movies or go to work. I can't really complain, sure you have the rare loud person, but its rare and you just put in earplugs for that one night. But just let the manager know who it was and she will nip it in the bud real quick!!! There are also video cameras on each floor in the halls to add security and safety. After 5PM on weekdays the front door is always locked and its always locked on the weekends. The only reason that it is unlocked from 9am to 5pm Monday thru Friday is because the managers office is right there next to the lobby so she keeps a close watch on things. The rooms are basic, nothing fancy, but they are still decent. For those of you on a fixed income or with bad credit and just need a chance to get caught up on some bills to clean that up, this is a good option for you!

Great for Single person working near Airport – This is not a hotel for tourist, this is a Residential Hotel for those on fixed income. I have been living here for almost 5yrs mainly because it is close to where I work. It is located in the heart of downtown South San Francisco, I would say it is one of the better Residential hotels in South City, well managed and very clean if you compare to the death traps in San Francisco. The rooms are furnished including sink. Some have private baths while most are shared baths and no kitchen. Rent is btwn 125-170 weekly all utilities included most residents are pretty friendly but you do have some bad apples but they usually dont stay long. The hotel is across the street from a small grocery/liquor store and there are several eating establishments and post office nearby. Two blocks away is the bus line to the Airport and San Francisco and buses to Bart system. I would recommend this place for single people only, not a place to raise children. If you are an airport worker this would be right up your alley if you want your private space and access to everything.
