I have moved with Calfo three times so far and every move has went great. I have a Baby grand piano that other movers have really struggled with in the passed. But when Calfo came they didn't have any problems at all. I couldn't believe how quick and easy it was for them. I first seen Calfo down at the Pittsburgh Ballet moving pianos for Modern Piano. They were having a piano show down there for the weekend. I witnessed the Calfo crew move at least 100 pianos that day. At the time I was moving within a few mouths so I called them up for an estimate. Ron Calfo came out the next day to look at are piano, and that's when he told us that he could just move the whole house. By doing that we saved a lot of money. Not only is Calfo the best Piano mover in Pittsburgh there the best house hold movers as well. Since my first move, Calfo Red Line has moved my parents, also two other close friends and everyone has nothing but great things to say about them. If you want the best crew for your move I wouldn't call anyone other than Calfo.
Great movers they are the best movers that I have ever used. I move a lot because of my work, and since I've used calfo red line I wont use anyone else. I have a 9ft baby grand piano that I perform with all the time all over the US and calfo takes it everywhere. I have never seen a company wrap a piano like they do, so that every place on the piano is blanked and safe. They were just as carful when they moved my apartment into my house. By far the best movers in Pittsburgh.
I obtained several moving quotes prior to selecting a vendor. Calfo Red Line Transfer was recommened to me by a friend, and they were by far the best price as well as the most reassuring quote. During the other two quotes I received, the salesmen made it a point to tell me all of the things they did not move and all the things the "I" had to do to prepare for the move. Ron Calfo (the owner of the company) not only came out and gave the quote personally, but made it a point to tell me everything "they" would do to make the move easier for me. Calfo's quote was roughly HALF of each of the other two quotes, so given that and the fact that they came recommended helped me to look past some of the negative online reviews I read. I had some reservation because you never know how things are going to go. Well, let me just say, I wasted my worrying. This moving experience was honestly about as good as it could have possibly been. It started with me asking to have the guys call me when they were on their way because I was not going to be staying at the house I was moving from. They had informed me in advance that they likely would arrive between 7-8am. They called me the day of promptly at about 7:15 to inform they were on their way and that they would be there about 8:00. They showed up exactly as planned. The weather forecast was less than optimal as they were calling for freezing rain, so I had some concerns as to how the move would go and how long it would take. Ron originally quoted me 1 truck and 4 guys for about 9 hours (the others were suggesting two trucks and 6 guys for about the same duration). When I had asked Ron about this (at the original quote), he said that given that we were only moving about 3 miles away, it would be more cost effective to use 1 truck even if they had to make a 2nd trip. The day of the move, a total of 6 guys showed up (including Ron). Ron said that he brought a couple of extra guys to finish quicker since the weather was supposed to get bad, but that it should even out price wise (additional guys cost an additional fee). I figured, well that's it, that's how they're going to get me. It is going to take the same amount of time with more guys. Here's where it all goes wrong. Wrong again! The guys hustled their tails off all day long. The only real "break" they took was for about 15 minutes for lunch to eat the pizzas I had delivered. The guys were polite, professional, and hard working. They did complete the move with 1 truck and ultimately 5 guys (1 had to go home sick) and did have to make a second trip and refill the truck 3/4 of the way full again and they STILL finished 2 hours AHEAD OF SCHEDULE!!! So, exactly as Ron said, even with the additional guys it evened out, right? Wrong. It was LESS!!!!!!! They ended up doing the move for $50 less than what they quoted!!! How often does that happen?? I gladly gave each of the guys a nice tip for the hard work that they displayed. I still came out significantly better than if I would've chosen a different moving company. In any event, I can't say enought good things about them. It just goes to show you that you can't judge a company by a couple of reviews. I wouldn't hesitate for second to recommend Calfo Red Line Transfer to anyone in need of movers.
I was quoted $700 for moving out on a Tuesday and moving into the new place on a Friday with an up front deposit. The Tuesday the young guys arrived and they were diligent and courteous and packed up and loaded my one bedroom in about 2 hours. They do not take as many precautions with the items as other moving companies in my experience such as covering large furniture with blankets to avoid nicks and scratches, covering mattresses, putting flat screens in tv boxes and taping down all drawers to prevent sliding. At the end of the loading I signed the receipt/contract showing with the hourly rate of $110, and the extra supplies a cost of $480 was applied to my deposit. I was given a copy of the contract which included an inventory of everything packed
When they arrived on Friday to unload they presented me with our receipt/contract of the move but this time it was covered in whiteout and various parts had been crossed out. I retained my original copy of our contract with our signatures which showed the original quote and charges. They seemed to have no problem altering a legal contract and did not acknowledge the unprofessional nature of this behavior. This new altered contract showed instead of the $220 surplus I had from Tuesday totaling $480 I had a $15 balance that I now owed, and the cost for Tuesday's move was actually $715. I now owed them $515 cash up front for them to unload my small bedroom worth of items.
When I called about this dramatic change of the cost of my move going from $700 to $1200 I was told they made a mistake and forgot to charge me for some additional expenses. They never called to tell me in advance about the error or even apologize. Instead they threatened to leave with all my possessions unless I paid them the additional $500 in advance. They actually did leave at one point but I called and begged them to return. Since they do not accept credit cards I quickly rushed to the grocery store to get them the cashiers checks. They unloaded my small apartment in 2 hours which included the time for me running to get the cashiers check while they waited, and them leaving and coming back. So it cost me $1200 for them to pack move and unload in about 3 and one half hours.
The sad thing is that they may have squeezed a few extra hundred dollars out of me for me to finish the move under duress but I have many young professional coworkers that are transient and, if I had a positive experience, would have been happy to recommend them like I have done for other moving companies. Stay away from Calfo Redline.
pretty good service, laidback but getting the job done – Nice people, older people knew how to pack the van real well. Please note they do NOT take credit cards (or if they do, must submit real early) and must use cash or certified check. They were off on packing on the same day, but my family and them worked on something to respect the workers as they were put in an unfair situation in my opinion.
" a moving experience" – 3 days before Christmas we were scheduled to move. This was the first time in 80 years that we used a transfer company as our children live out of State.
Calfo's owner and estimator quoted a price to pack and move @ $1742.41 and said it would take 11 hours.
The first guys to arrive denied any agreement to pack some of our remaining heavier items, which panicked me. The day of estimations I was told if the customer chose to pack their own boxes, those boxes would not be insured. (We did move about 30 boxes of cherished figurines and china ourselvespror to the moving date).
The owner was called and told his help to pack some of the unpacked "stuff". He did not tell me that he would charge $22.00 a picture or I would have car carried them mysef. Did I say that the move was less than 12 mis. in a rural area?
At the tenth hour of an 11 hour estimate, the owner called me into a back area of the house and said that because the job turned out to be more difficult than he expected, the cost of the move would now be $3265.02.!! And he wanted cash! Of course we did not carry that kind of money, aside from the original quote.
Mr. Calfo finally agreed to take a personal check and $ 140.00 in "tip" money that the guys were waiting for, aside from the $40.00 lunch provided.
My legal advisor said it would cost as much as the overcharge to put a claim in against this company. So I am choosing this format to call attention to the mis handling of a CONTRACT. ( Sure they could have asked for a few hundred more dollars from 2 old people--the "contract says they can do whatever they want). Having put our trust in this man's character, tho, we feel the doubling of the moving price at the 10th hour-because they were tired, has a nasty, haunting scent to it..
p.s. I assume that when a larger company sends an estimator out, the estimator is the one responsible for quoting errors and not the naive elderly.
Your reputation is everything Mr. Calfo, andI I am a bit sorry to tell my story publicly. You see, I am not a confrontist and am easily intimidated, so this avenue of response has been my only emotional outlet. The move was very hard on the both of us. Jackie
worst moving company in the Eastern United States – Moved over 30 times in my life and this move two years ago was the scariest, most unprofessional of all. They were six hours late and when trying to contact their office the female representative was rude, obnoxious, stupid and uninformed. Called back afte promise was made that the truck would show up shortly and this female retorted "would you like to cancel?" Agreement made was for 7am. They finally showed up a little after 1pm-no discount, no apology and they moved my wood furniture in 95 degree heat with no covers which led to sweat stains on furniture. They were teenage boys, hired I suppose for the summer. Never, never had I had a moving experience such as this and would strongly advise that you use whatever other carrier you can get.
