New Discovery! – That you can't please everyone is a given...except that in our recent visit to this quaint establishment, everyone was pleased...and, beyond! Our party of four each ventured into something different from the menu, and in each meal we were wow-ed beyond expectation.

Each of us has had the privilege of eating at some world class restaurants in Paris, London, New York --venues near and far. We didn't select Sewickley Speakeasy to make the comparison to those places, and clearly the waitstaff doesn't have a sommelier. . . no offense to snoots or name droppers, but we were just looking to have a nice evening and spend our dollars locally in support of the town proprietors. We loved the food, the friendliness of the staff and the overall experience was great... Who cares what the place looks like? My parents live in an 1800's house and the last time they updated it was in the 1980s, but do you think for one minute I wouldn't welcome mom's famous meals or dad's grilling? Don't go there if you're looking for high end decor--but make it a point to go there if you're looking for some really good food served up by some really friendly people trying very hard to please you! Bon appetit!

Ouch Out Of Date – I hate to admit but our review may make the first reviewers single star shine brighter. We had a similar reaction to the beer selection (nothing dark or with flavor not even a guiness), the atmosphere try silver wrapping paper on the walls. The menu was the largest dissapointment, anything BUTTER FREE??? Not worth the trip from the city...it was more like a time warp. Sorry

friendly people, great food – My wife and I eat at Sewickley Speakeasy one or two times a week. We are wine enthusiasts and mainly go to try new wines. If you can't find something you are interested in on the 12-page wine list, ask the owner(as another reviewer said): the wine cellar is huge and there a lots of goodies that aren't on the list.

The food is excellent, too. Chef Janice has many years of experience in fine dining and really cares about the quality of everything she cooks. The creamy five onion soup is rich and unique. I haven't had an equal anywhere. I order it without the cheese topping, though, and order baked brie with baguettes to go with it. My favorite menu entrees are the lamb with pecan breading, and the duck a l'orange; but check out the nightly specials such as crab-stuffed salmon. For dessert, I like the pineapple upside down cake with coconut rum, but if you aren't in the mood for something that sweet, the apple puff pastry is also good. Expect to leave full: the portions are very generous and the prices reasonable.

The building is a rambling old house nestled in the woods in Hayesville. Inside, the walls are covered with 20s era prints- mostly flapper-style ladies like the one on the business sign out front. There is a patio out back, and a couple times each summer they host a lobster/clambake that you really shouldn't miss.

We have been 'regulars' for years, and I'm sure we'll be regulars for years to come, because its a relaxed, friendly place and we always get a good meal.

Excellent restaurant with many great qualities – I couldn't help but laugh at "zamoti's" review of the restaurant. They couldn't be more wrong.

We've lived in Sewickley for over a dozen years. Unfortunately, we never took note of the SpeakEasy until about five years ago. In that time, it's become a favorite of of ours. We're still exploring the expansive menu. There are excellent seafood choices, several red meat dishes, amazing pasta as well as pork and chicken fare. Their 16 oz. pork chop is amazing as is their Steak Zurich. Their wine list is very diverse and if you take the time to speak to any of the experienced wait staff or Deb, the owner, you'll find there are hundreds of bottles more that don't make it to the list. The SpeakEasy takes time to constantly bring new and diverse wines.

The decor is somewhat dated but the restaurant is in an old house that's some 150 years old. I should also point out that it was only on our 2nd or 3rd visit that we got to meet the chefs. They were quick to spend time with us talking about the menu. They also suggested that if our expectations weren't met, they'd love to hear from us.

If you're looking for a restaurant that offers a great menu and the small-town charm of Sewickley then this is the place for you. I'd also suggest that you take a minute to meet the staff and get to know them. Zimata's pot-shot review of the restaurant is just inaccurate.

What an awful excuse for a speakeasy – Oh good Lord, where to even begin.

Forget 1920's style speakeasy--it's more like a early 80's style waiting room at your dentist's office. The decor inside of the dining room is just awful. The walls are covered with shiny wallpaper that look like it belongs in your grandmother's bathroom, the tables and chairs look like they were purchased second hand from a Chinese restaurant that had gone out of business and the ugly carpeting is just filthy. The general appearance of this place is simply AWFUL.

Shamefully the food isn't much better--it does, however, match the decor of the interior. Most of what you would eat here is the sort of of food you would find in a mid-priced restaurant about 20 years ago and half of the entree menu are veal dishes. I think the dessert was served with a side of veal. There is simply nothing interesting at all about the menu choices--I honestly think that Eat 'n' Park has more variety. The wine list reads like a who's who of trashy cheap wine at premium prices. Hope you like white zinfandel as it has nearly a page of it's own! If you would like a beer, you're out of luck unless you want Miller Light or some other toilet water variety. The only thing that the did have to offer was premium vodkas--but oh wait, they ran out after we had about four drinks! They push their "fried cheesecake" dessert like it's something innovative, but the sad reality is that it's just fried blobs of mushy hot cheesecake. Reminds me of some other 80's-era dishes that nobody serves any more like Baked Alaska and fried ice cream. Their chocolate torte tasted like it had more salt that chocolate in it and it looked like somebody stepped on it before they brought it to the table.

My experience is that the Sewickley Speakeasy can't muster a single decent dish and that there is NO reason for anybody to ever go there. Ever. Really. It's just that bad. For $25 a plate entrees they need to do a hell of a lot better than what they currently do!

NOTE: Went back with some friends because they didn't believe it could be so bad. It is still awful and I stand my ground that this place is disgusting. For all the "good" reviews out there, I can only presume they are written by the management or perhaps acquaintances thereof.
